My favorite episode...it's so difficult to choose, sigh. I think the one I enjoy the most is "Broken Rules." But like Vestokes, I too would rank last year's season finale as an extremely close second, followed by the pilot. I've watched all of these episodes several times and they only get better with subsequent viewings. Now *that's* a good television show for you!
As for "Broken Rules," I thought everything was pitch perfect in this episode. The writing was phenomenal (seamless transitions between the A and B story-lines, i.e. when Michael returns to his loft after having played the psycho in Little Havana, and Agent Bly's "you look fabulous" quip and their ensuing conversation about Michael's side jobs and his burn notice - it's marvelous how the stories segue together). There's the acting - JD in this episode left me speechless and in awe of his comedic timing, his sexy good looks, his dramatic flair and versatility as an actor. The guest stars were wonderful in this episode as well - the guy who played Ernie Paseo was fantastic! I loved the wardrobe choices. I loved the filming locations. I loved how the episode was directed. I loved the funny little touches along the way - Michael reading the soap opera magazine, for instance, lol. This was the kind of episode where even the little moments were a revelation. One of the things I loved the most in this episode was that
little tiny look that Michael Westen gives as he gazes up at that stained glass window of Christ in the church where he meets Ernie for the last time. It was only for a second but I noticed it and I loved it..
The attention to detail given by the actors and the crew on this show...it astounds me and delights me to no end.
