Full Version: Do you think the show will ever leave Miami?

I have to say that this show is pretty consistent. Every week, the show is interesting. But of course, it's only been 14 episodes. But, I wonder how long they can keep this "find out who burned me" thing and "get my life back" thing going. I really like the scenarios of helping out people in the community. But, I think they covered all the mob guys in Miami already, so maybe they can start attacking big business executives or government corruption. biggrin.gif Do you think the show will move to another city or stay in Miami? I think it will probably be good for the show to move to other cities and deal with new criminals. I can't think of any show that has continuously changed it's "base of operation". It would be kinda interesting to see. Maybe sometime Michael (& company) has to be on the run, because the bosses have decided to kill him (and his family & friends) instead.

I like Miami For BN, but I think it would do just fine elsewhere too (as long as the "elsehwhere" was warm, don't need my honny to need to change from those lovely Hawian shirts laugh.gif )

As far as changing "base of operations", if they did "move", they could still keep Mi for a homebase, (after all, that's where mommie dearest is wink.gif ) and cruise around to where ever they need to....as far as other shows that do, Criminal Minds is always in a new town, but the office and Garcia is/are in the same place every week, Nip/Tuck (ok, not exactly the same, but bear with me) moved from Miami to LA, with the same story line....and other shows, have done similar through the years, some even heading to Europe....

Do I think they "need" to move, no (how many years was N/T in Mi?)....could they move and "survive" it....sure...and if the Expo Center does go....who knows....????

I think eventually they will do some shows other places. Or make us think they are in other places.I believe in the Pilot.Nigeria was not actually the country but a set created.....So ....who knows.

To be honest I got excited when Michael was thinking about going to Wash. DC.....
vestokes
I would be shocked if the show left Miami. They could be forced to film it elsewhere but I think Miami will continue to be the home of Michael Westen.

Sure, there were shows like X-Files & Criminal Minds that supposedly went to other parts of the country, but their "home base" was always FBI headquarters.

Thanks for the input guys.

I agree with KusaAngel23, that there is a danger of running out of good storlines to plumb. According to the opening credits, he's stuck in Miami until he can find out who burned him and why. As long as they can make major advances on that, I believe the show will be great. I'll watch it no matter what, but I hope they don't stretch this thing out forever. I think the Carla character is interesting, but I don't think Michael will stand being a pawn for much longer.

As far as shooting in Miami, I'm fine with it as long as they give us different locales.

Personally, I'd love for them to shoot a few scenes in New York City or surrounding on Long Island City(LIC), that way, I can find my favorite spy easily.... smile.gif

Let me clarify. Miami should always be home base but nothing wrong with a little road trip now and then. I had all kinds of images running through my head about Michael running around Wash, DC ducking secret service and whoever else.

Yeah. They can use my house. My dog can guest star helping Mikey interrogate the bad guys by making them rub his belly. My dog's belly though I'd volunteer to run Mikey's. LOL!!!!

I really can't see it leaving Miami. Mind you, that might be because I have no imagination what-so-ever.

I'd love it if BN took a little road trip to the DC area - I think it'd be really cool if a television show was filmed in Washington, actually. Ummm...okay, okay - so in all fairness I should probably disclose that I uh, live fairly close to the DC area, lol. cool.gif
LuLuNY
I think it's obvious that ya live near the DC area as it is I live in New York City. They could always use my building and Mikey could jump off my terrace or someone in the penthouse. Mikey can run amuck in Central Park (the boathouse), Cleopatra's needle, the fountain.... etc.... or pose him as undercover at Lucky Chengs Drag Restaurant singing Karaoke in the village. smile.gif

Hey, they ran "The Station Agent" in my neck of the woods...if they can do a full length feature film in the area....how much harder can a TV series be....besides, Mikey gets deep enough in the woods of North West Jersey, Carla would NEVER find him....heck, Fi would have a time....uuuuuhhhhhh, unless she brought in Nepalm...and let's hope she doesn't figure that out laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Wow, that’s amazing, LuLu! I figured I was probably coming across as someone stationed on the east coast at the very least. [Although to be honest with you there have been times I wish I were a midwesterner, just so I could sign up to join the “world domination” special forces here on the BN forum (headquartered in Ohio, I think?) mjwannabe and CAGilder, help this east coast-er out here!]

I’ve only been to NYC twice, alas. The first time was with a good friend who lived in Westchester and who took me to visit some of her friends at NYU. We had a great time and then we went to the Palladium (nightclub, which was awesome - I think it's closed now?). We also went to the Met and saw some lithographs done by William Blake (British romantic poet - the “Tiger Tiger” poet that Creegan quotes in Touching Evil). I also got to see the Yankees play - very fun! The other time I went to NY I went with my best friend from college and we did some touristy things (the Statue of Liberty) and spent the rest of the time hanging out in Greenwich Village, wandering aimlessly and sticking out like two silly tourists, lol. But the New Yorkers we came across were absolutely fabulous to us. We did see this crazy play based on the Brady Bunch - I can’t remember its name now, but it was in a little playhouse/club in the village somewhere…lots o’ fun! biggrin.gif

Oh. My. Goodness. Hey, mjwannabe, we're getting recognized for "world domination"! How cool is that?

Time to implement phase 2...

Hey East Coaster's ROCK! actually any place in the country is nice. I've lived in quite a few states. So I acutally like visiting most. But I want BN on the east coast.

I know, I know - east coasters are the center of the universe, lol! I've lived in many different places, all of them on the east coast save for my stint in Cajun country (btw - I think Michael Westen's Homer was a Cajun boy myself). Anyway, I believe that T-Top should be flown in from the Bay area for his guest appearance in DC. I'm sure he'd share a trailer with GA's and JD's dogs. *earnest nodding*

I do like the nice beach-style community scenery (without overdoing it), especially when we have new episodes in the middle of the summer.

Well, I think both of their dogs are rather large so T-Top should be okay with that. He's not impressed with small dogs. The only problem could be that the trailer will have to be well air conditioned. My dog will NOT go out into the heat. Also, his human, ME, will need to "meet" with the other dog's humans. A private "meet" of course.  wink.gif

Anyway, I really don't want the show to have a change of location if it doesn't have anything to do with moving the story's plot.

How about having him go to the Pine Barrens to hide? It seems to work for the Mob disposing of bodies...maybe he'd find Jimmy Hoffa there. And it's protected land, so Fi can't blow it up. blink.gif laugh.gif

I would dearly love to see Michael take on the Beltway Bunch, though...and it'd serve 'em right, too... tongue.gif

Yes!!! I meant to say that. Especially since JD loves doing his Jersey accent. They could chase poor Paco through the Jersey Pine Barrens. Sort of reminiscent of "The Blair Witch". Come to think of it, I don't think JD wants anyone to remember that. LOL!!!!

Yeah. That's exactly it! I am not that comfortable with Cajun accents. They are really strange to me. I have a Cajun Uncle that lives in Detroit. He's been in Detroit his entire adult life, he's over 60, and he still has a deep Cajun accent.

Miami is a visually amazing place. It's cheaper than shooting in NYC or LA, but it's still all US and all union. It's easy to shoot interiors a use them to be from anywhere in the world, then combine them with a few exterior shots taken on the road and you're good to go. There is also quite a range of architecture and foliage within a few hours of Miami, so I'd have to think that they lose nothing by staying put.

hmmm... well, depending on how Nix develops the storylines and adds additional plots, it's possible for the show to be in multiple locations at the same time. For example, Mikey's in Miami as Sam's in NY or DC. The use of the split screens as events occured at both locations would be cool - especially during the gun play, chases, or even pursuits. Mikey's calling out orders from Miami meanwhile they're being done in NY or DC, and they're not using tracked phones; besides, no one said Sam couldn't go to DC to meet with Dan.

It would be interesting to see what Nix comes up with.

The series needs to stay in Miami--remember, he's trapped there, right? And I suppose there are enough bad guys to keep him and the gang busy for a long, long time, although I do wonder from time to time whether someone he "burned" might recognize him and get revenge--but then, the bad guys are always either dead or in jail by the end of each episode.

In fact, case in point, the first scenes of the pilot episode were set in Nigeria, but were actually filmed in North Miami and Miami Beach.

I hate to give you some bad news; but, not all of "the bad guys are always either dead or in jail by the end of each episode."

Let's just say, I tracked a flight; and, I know whom called whom with information about Steve Remington. Not only did Steve Remington become known; but, so did Mike Weston become known to certain people in "foreclosure" businesses, and Vincent's "special forces buddies," know about Mikey's friends in Central America and Jamiaca. Certain parts of the circle are NOT closed at this point and, if these parts aren't closed, an interesting storyline is very very possible.

There's not enough terrorist threats in Miami:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

America's No. 1 terror target: Indiana?
How 8,591 'assets' (such as an Amish popcorn plant) landed the state at the top of the government's watch list[/color]
About three miles from the nearest town, Brian Lehman's popcorn factory near Berne has somehow ended up on the federal government's list of potential terrorist targets.

"I don't have a clue why we're on the list. We're on a gravel road, not even blacktop. We're nowhere," said Lehman, owner of Amish Country Popcorn, which employs five people.

Nevertheless, Amish Country Popcorn is one of 8,591 places or events in Indiana that the Department of Homeland Security regards as serious potential terrorist targets, according to an inspector general's report that raised questions about the accuracy and relevance of what's known as the National Asset Database.

Indiana has about 30 percent more listed potential targets than New York (5,687) and nearly twice as many as California (3,212), putting Indiana atop the nation's list of potential terrorism targets.

What's more, the number of potential Indiana targets rose from 322 in 2004 to 8,303 in 2005.

Amish Country isn't the only odd-sounding site in the federal database.

Without divulging specifics, the list includes 77,069 U.S. sites where terrorists might strike -- including a flea market, a petting zoo, ice cream parlors, several Wal-Marts and a tackle shop.

The government's database is used to determine how much states should get out of hundreds of millions of dollars in federal anti-terrorism grants.

In its report, the inspector general's office questions the accuracy of the list, especially because of the inclusion of "non-critical assets."

It also criticized inconsistent reporting by states. For example, Washington state listed 65 national monuments and icons, while Washington, D.C., listed only 37.

The findings drew the ire of some lawmakers, particularly in New York, which saw its portion of funds shrink this year.

"Now we know why the Homeland Security grant formula came out as wacky as it was," Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., told The New York Times. "This report is the smoking gun that thoroughly indicts the system."

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security said federal officials are to blame for the state's large number of targets.

The list may have become inflated because states were left to interpret a request for potential targets however they wanted.

Pam Bright, a spokeswoman for the state's Homeland Security Department, said federal administrators asked Indiana to make a list of "critical infrastructure and resources," not a list of potential terrorist sites.

"There was not a clear definition of what they wanted, so Indiana took the safe side and submitted all of our important infrastructures," Bright said. "If that's not what they wanted, they should have sent it back and said that's not what they wanted.

"(These) are assets to many local jurisdictions," Bright said in explaining some of the stranger entries on the list.
Officials would not say whether all the sites have been told they're on the list.

"Nobody from the government notified me," said Lehman, the Amish Country Popcorn owner.

Jim White, director of Marion County Emergency Management, had another explanation.

"The Department of Homeland Security is a relatively new organization and, quite frankly, they are in the process of refining their data," White said.

"Have they got it right yet? Probably not. Will it be different next year? Probably."

White acknowledged the list includes sites in Marion County but would not disclose details.
"You don't put your vulnerabilities out there for everybody to see, because the (intelligence) folks on the bad-guy side read the newspapers every day," White said.

As for the popcorn factory, Lehman said he is "having fun" with the hoopla, and he's not concerned about a terrorist attack.

"I haven't lost any sleep yet."
