Full Version: ATTENTION USA ADMINISTATION! BRING US BACK!
I had the same thing happen, I was dramaqueen now I'm cat lady as I am on NBC board, I didn't log out ( a little afraid to right now) but when I tried to come on this board a few minutes ago I was logged out. Is there a time limit on how long you can be logged in? I used my e mail and old password from NBC and got back in but I want to have my USA name back not my old identity on NBC!

This is damaqueen-catlady, it happened again I deliberately didn't log out but just now when I came back I had been logged out and had to log in, has anyone else had this happen to them? Just another glitch in the up-grades I guess!

Something else I have noticed that I am NOT happy about and KimT mentioned something similar to it is that when I go to edit my profile, I cannot do that. On my old user name, on the left side under the from part, I put what ship I was on and Judy and Spook's name but now I can no longer do that as I cannot edit my profile. I know KimT was talking about not being able to change colors and fonts and such. This upgrade did nothing but tick a lot of people off, including me. What a mess.

Not a big deal I guess.I don't post a lot ,but I am one of many, who for some weird reason got my old nbc name as my screen name. I have had like 3 different passwords the last week. Don't ask me what my new one is 'cause only the usa board knows.

Considering that the forum doesn't recongize my email anymore, the only thing I can think of is that USA deleted my email because bellsouth/ATT won't deliver it.

If that was the case I would hope they would ask for an alternate email. but then they aren't saying much are they. But they recognize my email even offer to send me a password, I just don't recieve it.

Like some of you have mentioned, when I get a PM with my old account, I would get a email. About a few weeks ago those stopped. I meant to ask admin about it, but never got around to it. I also don't show up as logged on, somehow in my profile it got set to invisible and the only way I know to fix it is to log out.... and I'm not willing to risk it, at this point.
Here's another odd thing. Most times when I come to the board I use firefox browser - all the time now - I'm logged onto the board. I tried using IE and I'm not logged in with that browser - I'm listed as a guest and I'm unable to log in using my correct info for this board or my old NBC info - I could never get back on that board after their 'upgrade'.
So I guess I'm just invisible....

I haven't logged out in forever.. every now and then i will be logged out anyway when i come back online.. so i hav en't had to log in for a while.. so I figure i will have this same problem ... i can't come on much anymore.. so when i came on tonight i noticed that i couldn't tell who was who!.. well some were recognizable.. but some of you weren't.. guess I'll have to go through a lot of posts to get you all straight.
If i log out.. or.. am logged out somehow.. and I can't get back as *me*.. I may just forget it.. it's too frustrating and I don't need anymore frustration... I think it sux that USA hasn't replied to any of you.. and addressed this... I have always complimented USA for everything they do.. but... this is ridiculous.. that is.. not addressing these issues..

Sadly, it started back in Feb. and of the 233 names listed, only 3 or 4 have been fixed to date. All the rest had to re-register as newbies or they just left, as far as I can tell. Sounds like the NBC.com board went through it too, and it's happened in the past, and will likely happen again.
Which makes me think, sadly, that we can pretty much expect the same. It's been 6 months for them and they didn't get theirs all fixed. I'd love for admin to please please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see much hope for an "overall" fix happening.
There may be, if admin is up for it, a chance they they can help those with problems if they can get to each one individually? Would it help, admin, if we created a list of all those having problems in one thread (list only, not a complaint thread) like the SciFi one? Perhaps Admin (or Bubba?) could start a thread someone where everyone can find it in a general area (the Character Lounge?) to list their profile name & problem summarized?

I know admin is probably dealing with a mass of issues right now, so I'll try to be sympathetic if it's out of their hands, but if they can't let us know anything, can they let us know through another member?
It's just that all this info would have been so much more helpful BEFORE the purge. Alas, here we are now, and for those of you just discovering your login problems now, here's the basics of what I could piece together culled from all the USA forums & the SciFi forums (apologizes to those who I'm quoting – I just mashed all I could find together):
What we know
1. Seems like it is randomly effecting random email hosts: yahoo, hotmail, bellsouth – so it doesn't seem like just one email host is the problem.
2. The Sci Fi Forums & The NBC board (and now USA) had the same upgrades/migrations happen & the same problems. All are under NBC Universal. (Is there an IT department at NBC-U who handles all forums?)
3. PM's to USAAdmin, admin1, admin2 and WKC_Admin and get a message saying their inbox is full. Emails to admin/webmaster haven't gotten replies yet.
Things to Try:
Here's my best recollection of what people have tried – I can't say that any one thing will do it – just try them all I guess.
1. Don't Log Out.
Don't ever log out ever again even if your life depended on it.
2. Cookies are important.
From SciFi Forum: Do not log out. Hold on to your cookie. Because to log back in, you must supply the email address you originally registered with. Even if that email account is long gone it does not matter, you need to remember what it was. If your current email address in your profile is different, was changed at anytime after registration, it's not going to work as the log in. (aka: For those of you trapped 'tween dimensions, make sure you allow all cookies from scifi and then alternately log in and swear until it finally works.)
3. Get a new password sent.
If you can't login, pretend you forgot your password and click the "forgot password" to get a new numerical password sent to you – then you can log into your account and change it to the password you want.
4. New password not working? Keep requesting more.
For ex. Got USA to email a new password but then that password didn't work after trying many times, try closing out everthing & then come back in again and see if it works….had to wade through a list of new passwords but when one finally got in …just keep trying. For ex. the relogin went okay despite initial messages of 'that name & email are already in use' when trying to login with my correct email address and password.
5. Try a different web browser
Try a different browser: Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Safari, etc.
6. Pure Luck
It kept saying that the email was incorrect but I knew for sure that was the one I registered with. I lost count of how many times I tried and how many times I applied for a new password. Then all of a sudden it worked.
7. Login with any past NBC-related login.
If you're registered (currently or ever in the past) on another NBC site (NBC.com, Scifi etc.) try using that login. You may end up with that NBC.om identity/username here on the USA forum.
For ex. My email was attached to an NBC user name that I had eons ago and they wanted that password.
For Ex. Went to reregister and see what happens. Well it worked...it had my email listed as also being registered on MyNBC and just changed my password to the NBC's password.
Once logged into NBC.com, etc., you may have to request a new password from NBC.com be sent to you, if that works, login into NBC.com and change your password, and try to change your username if wanted (on your NBC.com login you have one chance to change your username, after that you can't change it) and then try logging on back here at usa.
8. Register with original email instead of logging in
This has seemed to work for more than a few people.
A. For ex. I was having the same problem most of you are having with the login. I clicked register and typed in my email address again and it told me I was already registered with that email address. Then I was asked if I wanted to continue registering and I clicked yes and it asked me for the password I used when I first registered so I did that and my account came back.
B. For ex. Try going to login screen, then click "register." Type your email address you registered with in the space and let it first tell you if it remembers it from there. It didn't remember my email from the login screen or the "forgot password" screen but it did remember it from this other screen. If it says something like yes, this email may have been registered, then type in your old password on the next screen. It worked for me and didn't make me change my password. It can't hurt to try it. I hope you can get back into your old account.
C. Note: Some have tried this, but it wouldn't take their password.
D. For ex. Thanks for your post about trying to register instead of login with your email. It took forever but I finally got in. And yes, it picked up my identity from when I was on NBC. Kept throwing me into My NBC. But I'm here.
E. When you register & type in your orig email address, you'll get this message:
1. You may already be registered with myNBC!
You appear to have already registered an account with this email address. If you'd like to continue, we will merge your existing information with this new registration. If not, you will have to use a new email address.
2. Choose Yes, continue registering this account. I agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
3. Message: This email address is already registered. If this is your email address please provide the correct password associated with this account. (If you forgot your password click here.)
4. Enter your orig password
you'll either get:
a. bad message: The following error has occurred: Your Email/Password combination was incorrect. Please try again.
(this worked for me after logging in at mynbc.com & using Safari, not Mozilla)
b. good message: You're almost done!
Please click "Save" in order to complete your registration on the USA Network Forums
Enter email (but I got no spot to enter it)
Display name (but I got no spot to enter it)
Save button
c. another bad message: The following error has occurred:
There was a communications error that has been logged. Please try again
(Frustrated, I then went back to main usa page, then back to forum & I was logged in already without having done anything, as my old profile – crazy!!!!)
9. Check all spellings/caps
Per SciFi forum: from admin to a member:
The email associated with that account is Xyz@XXXXXXX.XXX
Please try it with the case as shown and see if it works. I don't have the ability to change your account name but I can merge the old account into the account you have that is active. That way you'll have your correct post count and PMs.

10. Re-Register as a newbie
If you've tried it all and still no luck or you get: "Your email address was not found", there doesn't seem to be a solution yet. A lot of people are getting this message.
Likely you'll have to register again.
If probs registering: If you are trying to register anew and it won't send you an email registration, try using a different email account and different email server.
When you re-register, You may be able to get your old user/screenname/handler/handle name back but will possibly lose all history. Or not. For Ex. FINALLY got back on after a week of trying. Re-registered with a slight name change, yet my info is intact, including my saved PM's. Weird.
Sadly, with some new accounts you may have: no post history, no PM's, can't edit previous posts, and a test showed that inbound PM's are probably going to the original account (I tested this before I got my orig profile back, and yes, a pm to my old profile did send an email notification to my original email account, but following the link from there back to USA said : message does not exist).
That's all I got. I managed to get my orig profile back with a combo of #3,4,5,6,7, & 8 above, and apparently I can only logon using Safari now (I'm on a mac). I couldn't tell you which exactly did it. I hope it stays.
I'm going to try & post this in all the USA threads.

If you've tried it all and still no luck or you get: "Your email address was not found", there doesn't seem to be a solution yet. A lot of people are getting this message.
Likely you'll have to register again.
If probs registering: If you are trying to register anew and it won't send you an email registration, try using a different email account and different email server.
When you re-register, You may be able to get your old user/screenname/handler/handle name back but will possibly lose all history. Or not. For Ex. FINALLY got back on after a week of trying. Re-registered with a slight name change, yet my info is intact, including my saved PM's. Weird.
Sadly, with some new accounts you may have: no post history, no PM's, can't edit previous posts, and a test showed that inbound PM's are probably going to the original account (I tested this before I got my orig profile back, and yes, a pm to my old profile did send an email notification to my original email account, but following the link from there back to USA said : message does not exist).
That's all I got. I managed to get my orig profile back with a combo of #3,4,5,6,7, & 8 above, and apparently I can only logon using Safari now (I'm on a mac). I couldn't tell you which exactly did it. I hope it stays.
I'm going to try & post this in all the USA threads.

#3 was what worked for me but I also note:
1) I never was able to get into the NBC forums even though I am pretty sure I registered there with the exact same userid/name (down to the capitalization) and email address
2) I use a Yahoo email address. And my internet service provider is a local company and not one of the big ones like AT&T, AOL, etc
3) I note that there is one VIP user in the Burn Notice forum (Nix) who if he gets locked out of his forum account could potentially complain to the powers that be at NBC Universal and put real pressure on them to get this fixed ASAP...not good when your showrunner for one of your shows you're heavily promoting can't use the company forum to talk to the show's fans. I have sent him email via a mutual writer friend of ours to warn him that logging in here may be foobar for him as well as the rest of us. Not sure when he'll get around to trying to log in (Burn Notice is in production right now, they're kinda too busy right now to post much to the BN forum
) but since he's getting the word through alternate means maybe at least he'll be able to get back in or have some idea what is wrong if he can't login either.4) Perhaps we need to do some digging for fax numbers/emails for USA Network personnel to get admin to post *something* about where they are with this problem. This lack of response is really insulting

Isn’t odd that right after the Admin changes our log-in stuff (to help with security and spammers) there is a sudden onslaught of spam postings? Stuff for sale and financial advice garbage is on every forum I have checked today!

I sent bellsouth a notice that I wasn't getting those email, but it was a generic form, they request a copy of the rejection notice that USA must be receiving, but fat chance of getting that. I don't know if USA is encrypting the emails with something that bellsouth rejects. I just don't know. Oh dam excuse me, I just notice my spell checker disappeared. Oh my the world is coming to an end!

Okay. I thought I was the only one who had problems with their original e-mail address being wrong (according to USA Network anyway). I'm glad I'm not losing all of my marbles.
Now, I can't go to Change Personal Photo. I ended up at Account Settings when I was trying to put some personal photo into my profile

Loading the Forum and/or any Thread takes a long time; sometimes long enough that I have to do a "refresh" or it "poops out" in the middle of the process.
I have had it give me a log-in screen that asks for the (old-style) User Name & Password (I put my e-mail in the UserName space); then it gives me a message that I have to be registered to post (or something of that nature); and then a (new style) log-in screen asking for e-mail + password (which I entered, and it logged me in).
Last night something went haywire in the middle of posting; my screen name disappeared from the space at the top of the board; when I tried to log-in again, it said I couldn't (read only or something like that). But, then I exited the Forum and brought something else up on the internet. When I came back, my screen name was back in the space at the top of the board (I hadn't logged in again)!
And, like I said before, I brought up a PM that was saved (and had been previously opened) last April (3 months ago). The sender's name had been changed to "Gorens Veal." Why is it, the system can change the name on an old PM, but not on previous postings?
There have been at least 5 spam threads on the board since the "upgrade;" I have reported all 5 through the Report Key on the subject Thread. No one acts on those Reports; the Threads remain on Page 1 until normal posting traffic pushes them onto Page 2.
As I understand it, some of the "Veterans" of this Forum (and other Forums on both USA and NBC Boards) aren't posting because a week or so after this so-called Upgrade; they still can't get logged-in at all, or only ocassionally (when the "tech gods" look down favorably upon them.)
Where are you Administrator/Moderator? You were proud to announce "Upgrades" before they took place; but you seem to have gone into hiding when the "improvements" turned out to be "downgrades." ??

Okay, I asked this before...are we SURE that our whole board didn't get spammed?? I mean like taken over by someone else? Do they check in often enough to know if this is possible? I mean, even the update notice was misspelled! Seems like we are getting more spam, losing all the long time posters and having nothing but grief over this whole thing. Could someone take over a board or forum like that??? Just asking.

I've tried everything that has been suggested and more to get logged in. In my case, I believe what happened is this:
1) USA received some sort of error message saying my email was invalid a couple of weeks ago. AT&T/Bellsouth spam filters kicked it back for some unknown reason.
2) Upon receiving error message, USA deleted my email address.
3) The 'upgrade' occured.
4) Since my 'email' no longer exists, I can't log in. My laptop at home stays logged in, but I can't log in anywhere else. Which means, that when ever I had to restart my laptop, I'm going to lose my login info.
5) Attempts to reregister with my bellsouth email have not succeded. I get the message that I've got an account with usacharacterarcade, do I want to merge the account. Unfortunately, the password doesn't work. And since Bellsouth doesn't like USA, I can't have character arcade send me my password, since I can't get the email.
So, I'm at a loss. Do I just reregister and start over like Jryan and Bubba have? Do I say goodbye to my Veteran status and start over as a newbie?

Someone has planted a virus (or Trojan Horse or whatever you wanted to call it--I'm not tech saavy enough to differentiate) on the USA Program (all the Boards) that was "triggered" by the installation of upgrades. The Administrator is also "locked out," so he/she can't reply to our questions.
Maybe the technicians at USA and/or NBC Universal are working on the problem but are as stumped as we are?
It seems logical to me for the technicians to start by looking at the creators of spam threads; we seem to have "shoe" threads pop upon fairly often and when I looked on the Monk and Burn Notice Forums this morning, I noticed the "shoe" threads with the same poster's name as on LOCI. Even if this person is not intentionally creating a virus, he/she could have picked it up somewhere and is now spreading it everywhere he/she posts.
It's also a possibility that the "virus" was circulated by the internet service provider, not USA or someone on this Board, which would mean there is a limited amount that USA can do to correct the problem. (Several of you mentioned AT&T. Maybe you should start contacting them as well as USA.

at and t has a form you can fill out stating what emails are being blocked. But like I said they request a copy of the message USA is getting, but we can't get that, but I filled out the form anyway. So I did notify Bellsouth.net/Att but haven't heard from them either.
Well....my last ditch effort was to change the email address in my controls to a non-bellsouth address. Well, it kinda of worked. I mean, it wouldn't let me log in as TennesseeCIFan, but it did let me register a new account as TennesseCIFAn--and it seams that my info and posting status have followed me---but I'm still on my laptop & the hubby says that the cookie may still be on here so that's why I still see my signature, etc.

Okay, thats what I have said like 3 times now...maybe someone took over here and its not the admin we know. I would think they would respond to us, if it were them. i mean we are not just board members here, but veiwers of their network and why would they purposefully tick everyone off...knowing it may affect their viewers??

Even if this person is not intentionally creating a virus, he/she could have picked it up somewhere and is now spreading it everywhere he/she posts.
It's also a possibility that the "virus" was circulated by the internet service provider, not USA or someone on this Board, which would mean there is a limited amount that USA can do to correct the problem. (Several of you mentioned AT&T. Maybe you should start contacting them as well as USA.
Please keep in mind, that these are not judgments or conclusions on my part. I'm not accusing anybody; I'm just looking at the problem from every possible logical angle I can think of. My intent is to get the problem solved, so all the members of the USA Forums can "post happily" again.

OK, now it has been rumored at times to not be playing with a full deck. But the message about the down...I mean upgrade and new login information--didn't it say it was posted by WKC Admin? Because now it says USA Admin. I thought it was a new message and maybe they had heard the MANY complaints and were responding. But no, it's the same message. Did I imagine the WKC thing?

Where is the message posted? I hope we are not all going crazy o.O Right now, I don't know the new updates, but I can't edit the settings on My Controls. It takes me to a page where I confirm my e-mail and password and other things, but it doesn't let me change anything

I went to edit mine to put Spook's and Judy's names and my ship information and old name on the left side of my new name but was unable to do that. This is why you see all that information in my signature instead. It was what I thought of at the time.
These are interesting theories and may be feasable. I just am not savy enough to understand it. I do hate it that we have lost some good members such a bug, possibly forever.
Maybe it's an XFILE conspiracy! The opening of the movie and now this! I am telling you the government is behind this. But as a protest I am really thinking about getting another new nic and setting up my own spam thread. I have lost 185 lbs, and do have a lot of clothes, underware that are too large. Went from a 50DD to a 38C wonder if I advertise USED size 13 drawers and used 50DD bras if that would get their attention . What is sad there are web sites I probably could make good money for them, but they would have to be dirty, ewwww.

I have been a member of this board for over a year... but after the so called *upgrade* i have n ot been allowed .. under my sn.. or email.. to be a part of this place anymore.. even after getting a yahoo account just for the email so i could re-register... i can login but am not allowed to post.. and so i have no contact with my friends here.. i miss you all.. but here is my message to USA.:
the fact that USA has not addressed any of the issues the members have about the problems with the board... and will not answer emails or messeges.. shows a lack of respect for the very people who have supported them and thier sponsors..
since i can't be a part of the board as *bug* anymore i'll just move on.. i'll miss everyone very much.. and i appreciate jryan for giving me a voice.. i have been so frustrated because i couldn't even get a messege to you all
