What is the joke that Randy and the Captain are tapping out on the front door? Then Natalie says, "I know that one. Remember my husband was in the military."

I was just wondering if anyone else picked up on it? blink.gif

Thanks!!

IMO there was no joke being tapped out. In Morse dots and dashes with pauses represent each letter in the word and neither Randy nor the Captain tapped long enough to form more than a few simple words.

I think they used the Morse Code idea the same way they used the DNA information (can't remember the episode) for Julie's report as a teaser for solving the crime.

That was the coach episode. Yeah, it was just a few taps to set up the joke....the joke that never was. lol

Don't you think the whole Morse Code thing was set up so Natalie could admit she also knew Morse Code which then made the smoke signals she sent up more plausible?

Thinking back, the ending was a good idea to bring attention to the captain or Randy since no one would be coming to the house right at that time. Using the oil rag and the flue to make the black smoke signals would have flopped if they hadn't set up the whole Morse Code thing in the first place. JMHO since it's the kind of thing that makes Monk different from so many other series.

Randy may have just tapped an 'inside joke' or maybe he Morsed the word "knock' and the Captain might've tapped out, after saying 'Did you hear the one about the" :::taps::: the tappity-tappity-tappity tap..." (bow legged dog"...) I dunno...I am a MSTie, so I don't really worry too much about little gaffes, unless they're plot holes, and even then...
