Last night's episode "Iris doesn't live here anymore" got me thinking. The McBride family is obviously well off-so when they were taken into witness protection, what happens to their home and stuff? Does the government sell the house and contents and give the money to the family? How much money do you think the witness protection program gives it's family to start off? Is it possible to empty your bank account before you are relocated?

Great questions. Saw the movie “Witness Protection” with Tom Sizemore and Forest Whitaker. If I remember correctly, the authorities liquidated the family’s assets. (I don’t think the following is giving away too much of the plot.) The gangster-father (Sizemore) had been living “so high” that he had even taken out (unknown to his wife) a couple of mortgages on their home.) So, in their case, they (Dad/Mom/Sis/Bro) ended up with nothing.

Don’t remember how much of an allowance they received—but do remember that it wasn’t some enormous sum. Also remember that it was made clear to mom and dad that the financial help was temporary and that they HAD to go to work.

Great Movie.
