It's not a dumb question if you don't know the answer but want to. smile.gif

He often takes a knife out of his pocket at crime scenes to poke and prode through evidence without contaminating it.

He also used it once to cut himself and confirm that a suspect fainted at the sight of blood.

I thought that whole scene was very good. Another example of great acting by an actor who only had that one scene. He went from acting like a ladies man to beeing scared and the fainting. Hilarious.

These screencaps are from the episode "Rocket Man", Season 6. I don't recall any other epi with better close-ups of the knife.

Edited to add: Welcome to the forum Kenosha.

I enjoyed that episode as well when he actually cut himself to show that at the time the suspect that they had wasnt him so yes it proves how much a good actor he is but then i thought oh no he has marked his lovely hand but i suppose it proves how much he would go to do all this for all his fans lol so yes bobby rocks on
KimberlyTaylor
I have seen him use a couple different knives actually. And most of the time its to poke something gross...but once he used it to cut a tomato and eat it, in Malignant.
JanxAngel
There's a different knife in every episode he uses it. Grr... Don't they understand prop continuity? I mean where would the SG1 costumers do if they were always using different equipment every mission?

This is the scene that immediately came to my mind at the mention of Goren's knife. I think this episode where Goren first grabbed my attention. How could tasting the caulking from a rotting boat not?

Maybe he is fuzzy and does not want to keep the knife after using it to open some evidence.
Even if it gets cleaned, it probably still has traces of blood, etc. He probably did not keep the one he used for the diapers in "Rocket Man".

Or the prop department can't be bothered to keep a special "Goren's Knife" around. hehe

I'm almost positive that's not real. I've cut myself there a couple of times. It didn't draw blood, but even so it stung like a mother. It's a very sensitive area to cut yourself. I know VDO's tough, but I cannot imagine he would cut himself in the palm hard enough to bleed.

Oh yeah... I'm sure that was a prop trick. Even if he was crazy enough to do it (which I doubt) it's really impractical... if for no other reason than you only have one take to get everything just right. And things are usually all shot out of sequence... how do you explain the bandage that pops up in one scene and is gone in th next? And how often do you have to cut yourself there till you know how hard to push to bleed anough without hitting any of those little muscles in the hand.... the reasons go on forever.

The tasting of the "caulking" on the boat...which turned out to be white glue and cake frosting...was Sound Bodies...not Seizure. smile.gif

Right! But I think she was asking about when Goren cut himself and made the suspect pass out to prove he couldn't have done the crime. That was Seizure, wasn't it?

I think that's it. When a scene calls for his knife they just find an automatic knife prop somewhere and after it's done toss it back in the bin. PICK ONE AND STICK TO IT! kthxbai!

Interesting tongue.gif I still think switchblades are illegal for Everyone. Sorry Bobby. Maybe he's just expressing his "Brooklyn Bad Boy" self.

Thought of this scene, too, when I saw this thread. Why does it remind me of a child eating paste in kindergarten?

I have knives (only leagal ones), my boys have knives (Boy Scouts), and my friends have knives (police, military, and martial artists), and I do not carry the same one every day (and do not carry one every day). If you have more then one, the chances are that you take one out and carry it for a bit and then you feel sharpen one of the others or even just dust another one off and carry it for a while. So if Goren is so inclined to own more than one knife (and more than one of my officer, detective, and military friends own several knives of different manufacture, style, and size) than he would probably succumb to the need to bring out a different knife every now and then.
