Loved: Sammy in the tiny shirts!

Fi shooting between Michael's legs and the face he makes. The muscle shirt. The muscles (holy crap). Sammy counting on one hand his friends... his friends with ovaries. The whole thing was great!!! Kudos USA & Mr. Nix..... Cant wait for the rest of the season. Peace.

Delurking and posting for the first time. (Sorry, I've lurked since the first epi last year.) I was glad no one else was in the room with me. Couldn't keep the stupid grin off my face! Loved the epi, rewound during every commercial to see the previous segment. It rocked! The "break up" scene was kinda sad but inevitable. Loved his comment about missing the scent of an asset when she leaves the room. Can't wait for next week.

Haha, you guys are probably gonna hate me for this, especially since this is my first post (I've been a long time lurker), but I didn't like it. It was like the show was aiming to be too... spy-tastic. It was over the top, in my opinion. Oh, and the guest star annoyed the crap out of me. JD, BC, GA, and SG were GREAT, though. I LOVED the line that JD said after GA left. It was such a heartbreaking thing to say, and JD delivered it wonderfully. The plot line was just sub-par, though (in my opinion). I love this show way to much to give up on it, but I hope that the action gets toned down a notch. The show is about subtle and manipulative ways to defeat your enemy... It's not a gun waving contest.
Anyway, here's hoping that fangirls don't track me down!

Hello all! Loved the season opener (who wouldn't?)! Excellent writing and acting. Had the same feel as the first season, so far at least, if you know what I mean. Sometimes they change certain things and it doesn't feel right, but this was great! Sam, of course, wicked hot!! I could not wait to see him again-it was like an 8 month orgasm just building waiting for the next season! I can never get enough of him! Although I have to say JD's accent was a real turn on-anyway-Sam's my boy! Way to go USA and kudos to all who make the show the awesome one that it is! I can't for the next few weeks!

It's quite ok, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I really liked the fact that I was watching a new Burn Notice after such a long time, so I could have watched JD just eat yogurt and be ok. But I agree with the excess action, a little goes a long ways, and we love the show for the characters.

This entire episode ROCKED! From the funny moments with BC, to Michael's wit and voiceovers, to Fiona's badass-ery and emotional honesty with Michael. Tricia H did a good job with her limited scenes, but I can't wait until we see more of the character in the weeks to come.
The only problem I had was the freeze frame when Fiona is shooting at Michael. Normally, I love the freeze frame because it gives BN the edge their going for. But the way they freezed on Fiona wasn't done in a flattering way, which GA should get because she's stunning.
Somewhat I agree with AlmostThere. While I didn't think the episode was bad, I completely get were their coming from. But with a second season, they need to keep the episodes fresh and bring in the high octane element because it is a spy show.

Watched the marathon session today and (of course) the premiere tonight - did anyone else notice that they redubbed the mystery woman's (now known as Carla) phone conversations with Michael during the flashback scenes in the premiere? I guess they used some woman for the voice last season before Tricia Helfer (Number 6!) was signed up. Ah, continuity.

I loved the episode... of course it was the first new one in awhile and I think I would love it no matter what. But I will admit, there was a lot piled into that hour, and I know they had to tie up certain odds and ends and such but I can certainly see the point made above. But all in all I loved it. And I watched the commentary from Matt Nix afterwards, which was great too.... I think Michael and Fiona will be on and off again for quite some time, gotta love the angst. Here's to a fantastic new season!

ALMOST THERE has a point, the "action" was a bit much ---heeeeey, isn't that what costs the shows so much money to begin with??? I am a devoted fangirl who has to partly disagree with both of you, but I also get your point. Someone else said on a conv. thread (probably a couple of weeks ago) to please not depart from the "guns make you stupid, but duct tape makes you smart" aspect of the show that we all love when the preview of gun-wielding Michael helping Jimmie steal data from the computer room was posted on the BN site.

There's a lot for me to say here, but I'll keep it as short as I can.
I didn't like the "previously on Burn Notice" part, but that's mostly because I'd already watched the season 1 finale prior to this one. Also, I didn't think it made sense to show a summary of the plot from the finale, considering that it wasn't related to the events at the very end. They could've probably done better by just showing the very last scene of the finale, so as to not confuse newcomers. I'm crossing my fingers that they might take that bit out in the DVD release.
I liked the rest of the episode. It actually felt like I was watching an episode from back in Season 1, which is a good thing. It did have a little more action, but that's to be expected since he was dealing with a private millitary company--I'm fairly certain not all of the new episodes will be this action-heavy. I was a little let down that the whole buildup at the end of the finale turned out to be nothing but a tease, but I guess that's to be expected from a TV show. I just don't want to see them dragging the storyline out for longer than they have to.

Well...
I thought last night's episode was very good. But...I dunno. Something seemed a little "off" for me and I can’t quite put my finger on what it was. I can’t tell is if the show moved so rapidly into a new place with the characters that it caught me off guard, or what. Donovan's portrayal of Michael also seemed more reserved - for me, at least, the emotional fatigue/sad resignation settling in on Michael was palpable. It was evident in all of the scenes with Fiona, but especially so when he visited his mother for the second time (it's written all over him via his body language).
It’s as though the derailment of his personal and professional life is actually beginning to get to him (as compared to last year’s episodes, when Michael just sort of let it all roll off his back). And that’s hard for me to watch, you know? I mean, that last scene with Michael and Fi was brilliantly written and beautifully acted and it had to happen that way in order to maintain the integrity of these characters. And Fiona’s response to Michael was real and true and I’m grateful for that because I love Fiona -- but I also love Michael, and it was just heartbreaking to watch.
I think I'll watch it a second time - I think it may have just been that I wasn't prepared for all that happened in such short order. [Man, did that scene of Sam wearing Michael's clothes really rock or what? ;-D]

Hi everyone, new here. I loved it. It was more than I could imagine. It moved at a fast pace. All I am hoping is that I wouldn't come to resent Michael saying, "who burned me" all the freaking time lol.
Fi had to end it with Michael even though they were not really going out. She had put herself out with him long enough and it's up to him to make the next move. Didn't I read and article somewhere that said they will both become closer this season? I look forward to that. All an all, a great start to the season.

Excellent, glad to see the same themes, location, and situations as last season. Only a little disapointed because I expected there to be a much bigger job in store for Michael. It seems that the very powerful group that burned him went to an awful lot of trouble just to get him to do a break and enter job. I know they have more in store for him later but I was expecting some huge assignment involving nukes or something like that. Anyone else feel the same way? Still the best show on TV for several years.

I feel sort of the same way, but my guess is that this is like a very small hint at what the bigger job actually is. They could be building up a storyline that lasts the entire season, where we'll understand why they wanted the data after seeing all the episodes. At least, that's what I'm hoping they're doing.
The question is, if Michael thwarts this hypothetical big job of theirs, where could the show go from there? Another big job, or another mysterious organization shrouded in even more secrecy than the last? I don't want this to turn into one of those shows where it just keeps getting deeper and deeper until it gets completely ridiculous. I'm hoping that they actually have an idea of where they'll go with the story, from beginning to end.

I think the whole atmosphere is a lot darker this time around, more sinister. The people Michael is involved with now are scarier, not the comical, incompetent types who were tailing him last year. I sense that he's more trapped now than he was earlier, when he seemed to be making headway in outwitting his persecutors.

Takes a little time to digest this stuff for me....I came out of Ghostbusters when it was in theaters thinking it was the stupidest thing on earth....3 days later, I was humming the theme song along with everyone else

I do think they tried to cover too much in one epi...the season finale (which I have to admit, I only saw last week...that's how new i am

) had me wondering if any of the rest of the cast (Sam, Fi, Mom, Nate) were cominng back at all....or if they were going to try and pull an A-Team / General Stockwell and go in a full other direction in that thing....I am TOTALLY glad they didn't (i'd miss my Sammy!!!!!

), but I think they pulled everything in too fast...He brings Jimmy to his HOME, not totally sure who he is, what he did, what he's capable of, or if he's actually smarter than he (acts, for the sake of the performer

), and he's actually there to knock off the whole squad....Sam hasn't even had the chance to have breakfast before he's back in the door....would have done some sort of MIA case "in the field" b4 bringing him right back home, even if he was in communication with the rest of the bunch....and honestly, though i do want to keep her active in the program, I would have left mom totally out of this one, and CERTAINLY out of town till he was totally sure it was clear....
On the upside, I will say that hopefully this zero-to-120 mph take off is a sign of great things to come in the very near future

Die Hard so many times that I can practically quote it word for word. I can appreciate action. It wasn't the fact that there was action... It's the fact that the action is contrary to what the show used to be based on. Like, Michael pulling out a grenade launcher. I can safely say that was one of the stupidest scenes ever. It didn't work for me. Especially since in the pilot, he insists that he doesn't like fighting with guns.

I thought the episode was the best yet. It brought back memories of season 1, only with lots more action!!!!
The plane explodes. Mike shoots at Fi and Sam. Mike and Jimmy escape the security company with a grenade launcher. The boat explodes!
Anyway, the only disappointment is the (apparent) loss of the Charger. With Michael getting a Saab, I wonder if he's gonna use that instead of the Charger.

I expected better . I saw season 1 on DVD and loved the dynamics of the Fabulous Foursome Michael, Fiona, Sam, and Madeline and think it should have stayed the focus with these character dominating the series - not adding Carla ( sorry she was not menacing at all in her stupid phone calls and I was laughing at her whiny voice - either ditch the character or get a better actress since Tricis Helfer is not convincing enough to pull it all off ).
Too little Sam and the 'break-up' scene between Michael/Fiona was just too contrived and felt badly rushed. I agree M/F needs conflict per se and I agree doing a separation was the way to go but how it all happened seemed unbelievable .
Also tell NIX not everyone is hyped about the addition of Tricia either. I find her acting terrible and one dimensional to say the least . If Carla is supposed to be competition for Fiona- TPTB miscast Gabrielle can act circles around Tricia . I'd would have rather see Lucy be kept on and it revealed she was behind the Burn Notice somehow. The actress was pretty and talented and had spark opposite Michael enough to pull it all off- Tricia doesn't .
I'm tired too of all the hype about Tricia/Carla and could care less about her on the show !! I'm not interested watching Michael being strung along and playing the patsy for Carla either.
Sam and Madeline were both underused as was Fiona . I fully expect Burn Notice to be remaned Burn Notice : The Carla Factor with how Nix goes on and on about her.
Memo to NIX- If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It and BN was doing just fine without adding Tricia to the cast and Carla is not compelling but the biggest farce and the worst addition . Get rid of her and get back to the basics on what made BN successful in the first place .
Not a happy new viewer by any means !

I agree with nearly all of the points made here. Instead of adding my own, I'll add why I think things may have seemed rushed. I believe the writers strike which started in November sometime and lasted for over 3 months, caused the creative team to rush once an agreement was reached. Three months is a long time and BN still had to air sometime late June/early July. Story-lines suffer and hopefully, the writers have something great planned for the rest of the season. This show reminds me of the 80s detective shows like Remington Steel, Moonlighting and Magnum P.I. where there was a nice mix of everything: action, comedy, romance and drama. That's a hard thing to do when you want to do it good.
