I know the deadline for the emmy submissions is today. I am sitting on pens and needles to see if VDO's emmy nomation was accepted today! Has anyone heard anything?

I sure haven't, but I'm on those pins and needles with ya, so you won't be lonesome!

Hi Bubba here, I haven't heard anything, if I do, I will pass it along.

Other than for the John Lange role ages ago, has he ever been nominated? I can't remember that he has. He's long overdue, but the odds are against him--

I wonder if that is still the case. Don't they have a seperate category for cable? Now that the show is competeing there, it's consistantly at the top of the pack for scripted shows. It's not fighting the big budget flavors of the month like Heroes or Lost.

Maybe LOCI can get the respect it deserves being the biggers fish in the smaller pond.

Just a thought.

I wish it were so--but The Shield and The Sopranos were both cable shows, for example. There's only one Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series. Should be Vincent, hands down, but....

I believe that Kathryn was also on there for Amends, and Chris and Alicia both for Senseless. I know it'll never happen, but it would be nice for all 4 of them to be nominated. I would also like to see Senseless nominated for best writing--I can't believe I'm saying this about an episode that VDO is not in, but I think it was the best episode EVER. So far. tongue.gif

The hell you say! Thems fightin werds!!!!! (just kidding.... lololol)

Anyway... IMO they've come close but never topped In the Wee Small Hours prt 2. That scene where Goren charges into the judge's office ready to rip his head of and turns it around to get him to confess to sleeping with the dead girl.... still gives me chills. VDO and Colm Meaney thundering away at each other... it's like Shakespeare as it was meant to be done.

Those two had a really good scene in Claire Dolan too. I'd love to see them do something together again.

Wow... I really strayed of th topic... lol ......... Sorry!

Believe me, no one wants VDO to get an Emmy more than I do. And as far as performances, I think he should get it for Untethered. Although I would like to see CN at least nominated for Senseless. But as far as episodes themselves, I think Senseless was far superior to Untethered. And I could go on and onn (and on and on) about what I think would have made Untethered the stand-out episode it should have been, but I think I've already said it in the Untethered thread.

The Emmy nominations will be announced on July 17th.

However, the nomination "short list" -- the shows and actors receiving the top number of votes by the entire TV Academy -- were selected last month. Lots of leaks, according to this Variety column and other entertainment websites. Now it's up to "blue ribbon" panelists whose choices count for 50% of the "score" for potential final nominees.

I have not seen D'Onofrio (nor Erbe) on any of the rumored short lists. Mariska Hargitay was on one, for best actress in a drama. The mothership's S. Epatha Merkerson is also supposed to be on the best supporting actress nomination short list.

The TV Academy has already published its nomination finalists for best drama and comedy programs but has not released the same for any of the actor categories.

Of course Mariska was! Sigh....no big surprise, but it is disheartening to see our talented actors/actresses ignored again.

Edited to add: I'm sorry, I didn't mean any disrespect to Mariska. I love her and I love SVU. I just wish there was a little more love for CI.

Untethered, Senseless and Amends were all great but I also liked Endgame very much. I thought the enteraction between VDO and Roy Schier[sp] was outstanding.
I am afraid I will be really pissed if Hargitay gets anther nomination and VDO or Kathryn do not. I know a lot of people like her but I do not much care for her. I don't find much substance in her acting or her character. It's always the same.

I really liked Endgame too.....one of my favorite epis. What really burns me, is that it seems to be the same people that are nominated over and over again. There's more talent out there than just the usuals, so I wish the nominating committee would take off the blinders.

BTW, love your avatar pic lenore!

Okay. As long as CI has been on, I think its about time he gets a freaking award. He has shown great acting in every epi! Can't they just bite the bulet and give him one! Geez.

We found out last year that suggestions from the networks cost money. The emmy's are not about merit-they are about who wants to spend the $$$ to suggest episodes and actors for the awards

I really hope that doesn't happen. I think the emmy should be based on merit, not on a person's leaving the show. IMO, that would be an insult to Vincent who has worked his ass off on the show for seven years. Pleeease don't let that happen!
tessluvsv
The emmy's are a joke! It's never been about talent, it's about popularity.

The short list for drama's this year is Grey's Anatomy? (Please) Boston Legal (I like it, but I don't consider it a drama) House? (Popular doesn't mean good) The one shining show on this list is 'The Wire'. (It's final season)

In the 18 years that Law and Order has been on it's only won once (For best drama) Mariska Hargitay won because she had a huge promotional campaign from NBC. Christopher Meloni was nominated once and lost. (Not sure why he was nominated.) The Wonderful Jerry Orbach won....When he died. There is NO way Vincent is going to be nominated. CI is the least popular of the Law and Order series. The emmy's don't pay attention to it.
TheGoddessDivine
I'm hoping that the move to USA will help in this instance......the network really seems to be behind the show 110%, and it's gotten 1000 times more promotion in the last year than it ever did on NBC.

I'll be disappointed if (when) VDO is not nominated because he certainly deserves it. But I will be happy if Chris is nominated for Senseless. He definitely deserves it, that episode (just in case I haven't mentioned it 1,000 times before) is IMO the best one LOCI has done.
bcary1013
I've always thought, personally, that the best actors NEVER got their due when it comes to the Emmys. I never understood why David Duchovny nor Gillian Anderson weren't nominated more than they were when the X-Files was on. Sadly, the Emmys are about what show it the most popular, not which has the best acting talent. It's like high school and voting for Homecoming Queen all over again. I had a friend who was on the Homecoming Court for all four years of high school, but when it came time to vote for Queen, she was left out in the cold. The Emmys are the same way. The critics could love a show, but if its not popular, then it won't get the nomination. Of if, by some miracle chance they do get nominated, they won't win. Mariska is one of the few people who get nominated who deserves to win. I like her as I like all of the actors on SVU. I feel, as a group, they have amazing chemistry and gel really well together. But I also feel the the actors on CI are even better. I used to be a huge fan of SVU, but as soon as I gave CI a chance, I was instantly hooked. The acting talent still amazes me and its in the small, subtle things that the actors do. No put down to the actors on SVU and as much as I love and respect them, they just don't have that.

Now don't everybody hate me... but have you seen Saving Grace? Holly Hunter is fierce. I can't tell if I'm fascinated by her character or if it's like watching a train wreck and you can't look away, but her acting is off the charts. Much as I want to see our girl win, it's hard for me to imagine anyone beating HH this time around.

I absolutely agree! I especially like your train wreck analogy. Poor Grace is a mess, but I can't stop watching her! I can't say that I object to any of the nominations, especially since I haven't seen a lot of them. And certainly Mariska did an amazing job on the episode where she went undercover in the prison (now where have I heard that before?). But it still makes me sad to see this show and these wonderful actors ignored. Again.

Well the Emmy Nomination Gods didn't smile on our show...again.

Not that I'm shocked or anything but would it have killed them to nominate Chris who is in his last season and did such a beautiful job on 'Senseless'?

That said I'm rooting for Mad Men's Jon Hamm. His performance in 'The Wheel' the last episode of Season 1 of Mad Men was outstanding. I think you can watch it online at AMC's website (or if not there iTunes should have it)

As for Vincent I'm counting the days til he starts getting career-long awards, i.e. lifetime Emmys and Oscars and such. It's hard to be ahead of the world in your thinking and your talent and its mastery but eventually the world catches up to you smile.gif

ITA!! She is AWESOME as Grace. Perfect role for her. I've never seen Damages, so no comment on Glenn CLose.

I am mad.gif that no one from LOCI was nominated, but I have to wonder if they even submit anything for consideration - - you know, NY attitude and all.

I've never understood how the Emmy's worked, but like the CMAs it's become less merit and more of a popularity contest so that the general public will tune in and they can sell ad space.....

Once again, same old same old.....congrats to the nominees, I can at least be gracious in that regard. Whether we like them or not, they've all worked hard.

I'm just so thankful that Desperate Housewives is NOT nominated! I've never liked the show, never had any desire to watch the show, same goes for Gray's Anatomy. What about the whole Kathryn Heigl "scandal"? What a crock! Pulling her name from consideration because she felt the writing for her character was weak. Just because she won the Emmy last year means nothing in my book. IMO, she's not that great of an actress; pretty as all get out and a former Miss Teen USA, but not a great actress.....

ITA about Holly Hunter! FIERCE!!!! I've always liked her as an actress, and as Grace, she ROCKS! I hope she wins.

Once VDO starts getting lifetime achievement awards and the world begins to see the volume of his body of work, and how outstanding it is/was, well, won't they be ashamed and have egg on their faces. The other fact not mentioned about VDO and no noms is that VDO does not campaign for that kind of recognition, nor does he particularly care if the network campaigns on his behalf or not.

WORD!!!
Will add to this.....think about all the ones that DIDN'T win awards after multiple nominations and who richly deserved to win---Alfred Hitchcock never won an Oscar until his Lifetime Achievement. Except for sharing Best Screenplay with Herman Mankiewicz, same thing goes for Orson Welles.
I would like to think the cast, crew, and writers all know how we feel about CI and them. Otherwise we wouldn't be here, right? Just sayin, right pfchristine?
I for one plan on my own CI mini-marathon the night the Emmys are shown.

Over on the In Plain Sight forum there is a thread asking what everyone watches. I listed Desperate Housewives as one of my guilty pleasures. I find it funny, outrageous, and yes, unrealistic as all get out. And I keep coming back for more. I am, however, glad that it wasn't nominated. I just have one thing to say in defense of DH. One of the reasons I keep watching is because there is one couple that I think is one of the very few strong, healthy, realistic marriages on TV. Ever. Their fights are true to life and the way they resolve problems are true to life as well. Although I was disappointed in the way they wrapped up one story line this season, but I'll watch to see if they redeem themselves. I watched Grey's Anatomy for a while, but got bored and haven't seen it at all this season.

I love Glenn Close, but haven't seen her show so I can't comment on her performance. Sally Field, well, I love her too, but got bored with Brothers and Sisters at the same time I got bored with Grey's Anatomy. I love Kyra Sedgewick and The Closer, but I think she is outmatched this year.

I just can't pick between Mariska Hargitay and Holly Hunter. As you said, FM, Grace is FIERCE! I just can't NOT watch! But, the episode that Mariska was nominated for was riveting (but couldn't help feeling it was a rip-off of Untethered). The scene in the basement where she was almost raped was excruciating to watch and her performance was spot-on perfect. Her fear and panic were palpable. Watching her go from tough cop to scare-out-of-her-mind victim was fascinating to watch. So, I'll be happy if either of them win.

Speaking of Emmys, I just found I have a second T shirt (it's a size XXL) from the 50th Emmy Awards ceremony (the one in which VDO's guest starring role on the Homicide episode 'Subway' got a nomination). I think I'll send it on down to Jill for the charity auction...I don't need two copies of the same shirt and it's definitely for a good cause.
