Once again, same old same old.....congrats to the nominees, I can at least be gracious in that regard. Whether we like them or not, they've all worked hard.
I'm just so thankful that Desperate Housewives is NOT nominated! I've never liked the show, never had any desire to watch the show, same goes for Gray's Anatomy. What about the whole Kathryn Heigl "scandal"? What a crock! Pulling her name from consideration because she felt the writing for her character was weak. Just because she won the Emmy last year means nothing in my book. IMO, she's not that great of an actress; pretty as all get out and a former Miss Teen USA, but not a great actress.....
ITA about Holly Hunter! FIERCE!!!! I've always liked her as an actress, and as Grace, she ROCKS! I hope she wins.
Once VDO starts getting lifetime achievement awards and the world begins to see the volume of his body of work, and how outstanding it is/was, well, won't they be ashamed and have egg on their faces. The other fact not mentioned about VDO and no noms is that VDO does not campaign for that kind of recognition, nor does he particularly care if the network campaigns on his behalf or not.
Over on the In Plain Sight forum there is a thread asking what everyone watches. I listed Desperate Housewives as one of my guilty pleasures. I find it funny, outrageous, and yes, unrealistic as all get out. And I keep coming back for more. I am, however, glad that it wasn't nominated. I just have one thing to say in defense of DH. One of the reasons I keep watching is because there is one couple that I think is one of the very few strong, healthy, realistic marriages on TV. Ever. Their fights are true to life and the way they resolve problems are true to life as well. Although I was disappointed in the way they wrapped up one story line this season, but I'll watch to see if they redeem themselves. I watched Grey's Anatomy for a while, but got bored and haven't seen it at all this season.
I love Glenn Close, but haven't seen her show so I can't comment on her performance. Sally Field, well, I love her too, but got bored with Brothers and Sisters at the same time I got bored with Grey's Anatomy. I love Kyra Sedgewick and The Closer, but I think she is outmatched this year.
I just can't pick between Mariska Hargitay and Holly Hunter. As you said, FM, Grace is FIERCE! I just can't NOT watch! But, the episode that Mariska was nominated for was riveting (but couldn't help feeling it was a rip-off of Untethered). The scene in the basement where she was almost raped was excruciating to watch and her performance was spot-on perfect. Her fear and panic were palpable. Watching her go from tough cop to scare-out-of-her-mind victim was fascinating to watch. So, I'll be happy if either of them win.
