Episode Detail: Iris Doesn't Live Here Anymore - In Plain Sight

An arrogant doctor and his family must move after his daughter witnesses a gang shooting, and the stress of adjusting to living in the program threatens to tear the once close-knit clan apart.

Based on the end-of-episode preview I already have a consistency question.

Spoiler:
Someone else raised this in Who Shot Jay whatsisname - but it's said right in the beginning of the preview for IDLHA that a witness can't be connected with his or her old profession. In which case, why was Jay allowed to continue to work in art acquisition? The only thing I can figure is that since it was evidently a studio owned by Jay and his wife, it was beyond Witsec control. Still, I'm confused, and consistency stuff really matters to me. If it's inconsistent across seasons, just don't point it out and I'm happy, but if it's inconsistent within a season it's like having a rash on my perception filter and itches.

Hi Bubba here, I thought I would bring this thread up for questions and thoughts about tonight's episode.

Spoiler:
It didn't hit the water! And she just left it :< Now that's just begging for trouble.

I'm having some trouble with the pacing of this first 'season.' I guess they were trying to push action early to lure us in, but the lack of follow through is starting to dampen my interest. And where is Jinx? Missing for two episodes already, right when her character was picking up. At this point, I'm not sure I'll still care about her when she's back.

One of the reasons I really missed Jinx in the episode too is that I thought she was the character most likely to fit in with the theme of forgiveness. Instead we got, what? Mary forgiving Raph for asking to marry her, and Squish letting go of her boyfriend?

Was the beginning of this ep the 'jealousy' moment over Marshall Mary is supposed to be having? At any rate, I really would have liked to see that.

Hope it comes back!

IN PLAIN SIGHT (NEW)

Mary McCormack ("The West Wing," "Private Parts") stars as Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshal working in the highly secretive branch of the witness protection program (WITSEC) who relocates Federal Witnesses many of whom are career criminals and others who are innocents that had the misfortune of witnessing a crime. They all have one thing in common someone wants them dead. Mary's job is to see that doesn't happen, while at the same time attempting to manage her own dysfunctional family. USA's newest hit series IN PLAIN SIGHT also stars Frederick Weller ("Law & Order: Criminal Intent," "The Shape of Things"), Lesley Ann Warren ("Desperate Housewives," "Will & Grace"), Nichole Hiltz ("NYPD Blue," "Strong Medicine"), Paul Ben-Victor ("The Wire," "Entourage"), Cristian de la Fuente ("Dancing With The Stars," "Ugly Betty") and Todd Williams ("Tilt," "Third Watch"). IN PLAIN SIGHT was created and written by David Maples ("Home Improvement," "Huff"), who serves as executive producer alongside Paul Stupin ("Dawson's Creek," "Beautiful People") and comes from NBC Universal Cable Studios.

Premiered Sunday, June 1 at 10/9c through Sunday, August 17.

any ideas on the artist featured when Mary was sitting with her boyfriend on the couch?

some lyrics were "so i'm leavin for Memphis, watch me go leavin for Memphis where the Mississippi flows"

Thanks

Well, I just got done watching tonights epi for the 2nd time, And I think this one may be my favorite so far. Great story, I liked how the writers had me despising the father throughout it and then liking him in the end. And I will never tire of Marshall taking "charge" of the situation smile.gif
Good acting by all.
medea42
I think this was the best episode since Trojan Horst, and Marshall is really what made this show, again. We finally got to see him get really mad, and at someone besides Mary. I also actually enjoyed the growing tension between Raphael and Brandy - I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can already kind of see coming.

Please tell me this show isn't being canceled. I want to see all of the esp. that they have listed.

Marshall was the best part of the show tonight. I loved the way he handled the dad and was more involved in tonights esp then in the others. He wasn't a errand boy tonight.

More about the show later, but I’m going to be really p&^#%$ !*f if that is the last we see of the “C” stash.

Last nights episode was great! I just love Marshall more and more each week! I loved it when he told the father off last night! And when he had the door with the growth chart delivered to the family!!

I really liked this episode, but I missed Jinx. Marshall rocked! And I seriously wanted to reach over and slap that dad!
bobbysthebest1
Marshall kicked-butt! I loved it when he went after the dad and chewed him out. cool.gif I also loved that he had the door removed and sent to them; although I knew he was going to do something along those lines by the way he kept looking at it. As unprofessional as they often write Mary, I thought they had her acting very professional considering how annoying the father was. I would certainly have been telling him off. Well, actually I was via the tv.

It was good to see that Mary does care about Raph and went out of her way to see him. I also liked the Raph didn’t just try to appease Mary when she was upset, but stated plainly that she dodges anything of a personal nature. Good for him, it puts them one step closer to clearing the air.

That is so awesome! Now I have to go back and watch it again so I can look for him.

BTW, your husband looks a LOT like my son-in-law. I think I better check to make sure he doesn't have another life in Albuquerque! laugh.gif

I loved Marshall getting angry. Wow.

Why are Raph and Mary still together? They just don't click. And I'm not just saying this because I'm a M/M fan. On the other hand, I'm really starting to ship Brandi/Raph.

In the 55th minute of the episode "Iris Doesn't Live Here Anymore", it shows Mary and Marshal unloading the door that Iris' family used to track the heights of Iris and Lily. It shows them unloading it in a HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE. Then it shows them living it up with the family as they all admire the door in its new location, while their car is still PARKED IN THE HANDICAPPED SPACE.

It appears they live in an apartment. I can tell you that as a handicapped person, people OFTEN use the handicapped spots to load and unload their stuff into apartements. A handicapped parking space is NOT A LOADING AND UNLOADING ZONE. It is there because someone is in a lot of PAIN and has a very hard time walking to the door of their HOME. I know this is just TV, but it does leave the general public with the impression that it is ok for

1. anyone to park in handicapped spaces to load and unload
2. to stay parked there while you party inside
3. that is ok for law enforcement to use handicapped spots whenever they want to

People, DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAPPED PARKING, EVER, unless you have a handicapped permit.

I really liked this show until I saw this scene. I will NEVER watch the show again and I think USA Network should issue an formal apology and do a show on how handicapped people are discriminated in these 'small' ways every single hour of every day.

Actually, it wasn’t a handicapped space, it just played one on TV.

ROTFLOLLMAO!!!!!!!

I do agree with the concept of not parking in the handicapped space (though I myself will use the bathroom stall, if someone disabled is in front of me, their option, behind me in line, I'd probably defer, but if I'm in it before you arrive, take a breather and wait like everyone else, I won't be long....), but I think the whole formal apology/boycott for one epi is a bit much....think a better idea (for this and other programs) would be, say if M & M go somewhere and one tries to park in an HC, the other gumbles/growls/guilts them into parking elsewhere....statement made, issue resolved and fun had all at the same time.....

Mary and Raf -- little confused too, but though i like M & M, i kinda hope they work things out

Marshall -- agree, about time he stopped being the "errand boy" as someone else puts it (though the complete stoppage of that is just as out of the question...it's part of their dynamic)....and I'm glad someone handed that father his A$$!!! Even though I think the mom did a slightly better job...then again, she was "at close range"...the door was perfect, I thought of the concept when they showed it, but didn't think the show would actually do it....

Sis and the "package" -- personally glad it's gone, and i get the symbolism et al....only A if she's looking to "get rid of it", why did it land on the shoreline?????? and even if it is total gone, sunk whatever,...does she really think that's going to keep the boyfriend and whoever he's with from going after her (she may end up in WitSec herself!!!)

Mom---where was she in all this...????

heathercoolio: IPS also has Mary sleeping with her boyfriend during on-the-job. I guess by your logic it promotes that as well?
medea42
Just a thought, let's focus on talking about the episode. Stuff like the above mentioned can get pretty circular, and I personally would much rather effuse the Marshall love and discuss HOW to discuss such issues as the parking etiquette of fictional characters elsewhere.
Amski
^^ Agreed. Wanna lodge a complaint then do it somewhere else.

Anyway, the episode was the best since TH, I really, really, really enjoyed this ep. The show's really found it's swing now. And how much do I adore Brandi? She's so sweet and quirky, the end bit with the suitcase, bless, I'm so glad she's rid of that. I think her and Raph have so much more chemistry than Raph and Mary, so yeah, Raph/Brandi all the way!

Marshall! He was just perfect, all sensitive at the start and then all angry and yum, he's hot when he's mad lol.
ADogNC
Could someone post a quote of Mary's voiceover at the end of the episode about forgiveness as she was going to visit Raph? Thanks!
MisbehavinAngel
I say it every week, but it is so true. This show gets better and better, and I just don't know who I love more Mary or Marshall.
Marshall was just so cute again, and he totally brought it in intellect, and you know he could have whopped the Doctor's butt.
One satisfying episode.
I am not sure what all is going to happen to lil sister and the stash, because obviously that cannot just be the end of it.
So I am hoping for many more episodes of In Plain Sight.

Excellent episode! The troubled, conflicted Mary is growing on me. Love Marshall's intellectual little surprises. The portrayal of the family's difficulty in adjusting to their new life was complex and realistic. Outstanding. And Marshall's scene with the father explaining the clinic doctor's background and saying, "but I can understand how you would feel this is beneath you..." was stunning. Plus, loved the little throwaway line at the beginning..."like we're not a couple.."

This show is gaining steam.

I agree that "Iris" was an excellent episode. It's my favorite so far, with the exception of Trojan Horst (I'll be so sad when that episode is removed from the IPS site, since I've replayed it many times). I think both Mary McCormack and Fred Weller (and the writers) have created interesting and realistic characters. I have known plenty of professional working women like Mary. Marshall is a great character too -- and Fred plays him to perfection. There can not be too much of the M/M interplay for me. I'll be very disappointed if this series is not renewed.
