Full Version: Is Monk a Vegetarian?
USA Network Forums > USA Network Originals > Monk

I passed a German restaurant in downtown Tokyo yesterday and saw a multitude of sausages strung up to the ceiling and knowing how German food seems to be basically a meat based cuisine, I wondered what type of food he would find edible? Is Monk basically a vegetarian, especially of organically grown food, or is he also a meat eater who could enjoy the flavor of a good German sausage?

Hi Bubba here, I think he is a meat eater. But, I don't think he likes hot dogs. (See Carnival episode)

He's a chicken pot pie fan, so not a vegetarian =]

Yeah, and he had the turkey dinner with his dad --

But I don't think he'd eat sausages. (Goldberg addressed this in "Goes to Germany" and he ate them while medicated, but not afterward due to the whole intestine issue.)

I don't think he's a vegetarian. I just think he's limited by size, shape and proximity of the meat. I think he'd eat a perfectly circle filet mignon for instance.

I loved Germany. It was great. Reminded me, for some reason, of Mr. Monk and the Arsonist.

I remember he ordered veal in Other Woman, and also he had chicken with his dad, didn't he? I seem to remember him having chicken at Sharona's house too.

I think eating organic food would be something Monk would do in a big way. He refuses to put drugs into his body so it seems to make sense that he'd feel the same way about the chemicals and antibiotics that are in meat.

LOL! It must have been "The Monk," or has he has now taken to calling himself "The Monkster."

(Except that LG didn't use dioxynl as a cheap excuse for writing four scenes of nothing but Monk and Natalie making out.) tongue.gif

He's definitely not a vegetarian. He has been shown eating meat on several different occassions. As long as the meat is in perfect form. biggrin.gif

We know he used to have "Chicken Pot Pie Night."

I think there is nowhere mention, does he eat orcanic food or not, but it would make sense, that he prefers organic food, because it is īcleanerī food.

I wonder, does he eat salad or soaps, these are mixed food, everything together. But at least he has made potato salad for exemple in Mr and Mrs Monk.
And although it is known, that he drinks only sierra springs (or the other water I donīt now remember itīs name), so that in Mexico he refuses drink anything else although there wasnīt any sierra springs. However, on the Run in his refrigerator was orange juice. Has he began to drink orange juice lately?

Well, Organic means that it doesn't have chemicals - he loves chemicals.

I actually think he'd prefer the chemicals to things like compost and manure that are used in organic farming. But if he had a choice, I'd bet he'd like hydroponic veggies -- using Summit Creek water only.

I think that the less Monk thinks about food, the better he sleeps at night. In "the asylum" he was making Chicken Cacciatore for Trudy (in someone else's house, oddly enough). ("Hello, 911? Some guy is in our kitchen cooking chicken... We don't know why, or who he is... but it's very tasty... Seasoned just perfectly... ")

"It's touching."
"Yes, after all this time."
"No, I mean the food. It's touching."

Adrianna, I believe you meant *soups*, not soaps, though, if anyone would actually eat soap, or anyone who doesn't have Pica, somehow I think it would be him. smile.gif

We have seen him drink tea, two brands of water, wine, orange jiuce and I think maybe coffee, though maybe that was also tea in his cup in the beginning of Big Reward. I think that in Mexico, he might have drank something other than Sierra Springs if there was some way he could know exactly where it was bottled or canned, apparently Sierra Springs has bottling plants only in the US? Anyway, Sharona bought a coke for him, and he said no, because he didn't know where it was canned. He probablywas being excessively worried about getting some kind of parasites or something from anything that might have been processed or bottled in Mexico, like amoebic dysentary, which I believe would be his worst nightmare, or at least up there in the top ten. either way, he'd end up being severely dehydrated.

We have seen him eat cheese, overdone chicken breasts, he ordered veal in a resturant, he ate part of Stottlemeyer's sandwich that looked like tuna, he ate eggs in Actor, Turkey dinner with his dad, alphabet soup, cobb salad in Jury Duty, new potatoes, green beans, toast, what looked like turkey with mustard on white bread if my memory is right, grapefruit, apples, tapioca, nuts, chicken pot pie, he helped make potato salad and burgers and might have eaten some of that, olives, a Rocket burger, soup, and he pretended to eat a nacho in Office. He always seems to have small/moderate portions with very little seasoning, and he seems to like to keep it simple, nothing too rich, spicey or complicated, always healthy, nothing fried except the eggs in Actor and the burger when he was on drugs. Also, the only time he ever seems to eat or drink anything that is odd, that he didn't prepare or that wasn't prepared by someone he trusts, he is under the influence of something or someone. The over cooked chicken leads me to believe that he os worried about getting germs or parasites even from food that comes from the US, and wanted to be sure that all of the germs and parasites died in the cooking. I don't even care for food myself and everytime I see that chicken breast in Gameshow, all I can think is that it looks like it's practically charcial and must be extremely dry and tough.
I probably missed something, but that's a basic idea of his eating and drinking habits.
