Full Version: What if Monk and the Gang were in a rock band?
USA Network Forums > USA Network Originals > Monk

So, this morning I was playing Guitar Hero by myself. I paused the game really quick to go get myself some bacon. I got grease on the tips of my fingers. I started playing the game again. Paused it again, to get the grease OFF my fingers and off the game buttons. Gross. Then, it occured to me. What if the Monk cast was in a rock band? What would Monk play? Would he play guitar or bass guitar, because they have a nice even number of strings? Or would he find a way to rock up the clarinet? tongue.gif I'd suggest things, but I'd like to see what you guys and your quick witted brains come up with first.

Any ideas? Any cute, imaginitave comments? Go ahead, add anything you like. wink.gif

Stottlemeyer is on guitar, Monk is on clarinet, Natalie is on the drums, Julie is playing the tambourine--because the rock band in my mind is stuck in the '60s....and Randy's on Kazoo. rofl
mjwannabe
Hmmm, well we already know Randy can rock out. I can definitely see Natalie rocking out too. We could have Stot playing some guitar. But Monk? I am trying really hard to picture what Monk could do in a rock band. Everything I come up with would be illogical for him. biggrin.gif
ShamusMcBlackpepper
Er . . . I believe that he already plays a musical instrument. I forget which.

EDIT: Clarinet.

Clarinet in a rock band? LOL I dunno, I guess it could work. Is there a such thing as an electric clarinet? laugh.gif

A kazoo maybe? tongue.gif lol

I picture different things when I picture a rock band:

60's-Like Yvette's idea, but...idk...everyone wearing baggy clothes, headbands and colored glasses. Somehow I can picture Sttotlemeyer with long hair and a long beard, kind of like John Lennon, and then, purple tinted glasses. wink.gif

70's-A disco/funk band. No music players, just afros, platform shoes, and disco jumpsuits.

80's- An 80's metal band. All of them (except Monk of course.) either have a mullet or long, flowing curly hair. Randy guitar, Stot-bass guitar, Natalie-drums, and Monk...can he sing? "Oooohh..whoa whoa sweet child o' miiinnnee..." Can you picture that? blink.gif

90's-Grunge. Randy and Natalie have the whole dreadlock thing going on. Captain gets a mohawk. wink.gif

A punk band-It's not ahrd to picture Randy with the mohawk, the piercings, the spikes, the chains, the tattoos. Yeah, he's the lead singer-guitarist for the band. Natalie-drums, again. Stot-Bass, again. Monk--his incredible electric kazoo!! biggrin.gif

EDIT: Egh...I guess it's only funny if you try to picture it....or if you live in my brain. laugh.gif

Actually I am trying to picture each era in my mind and I am absolutely cracking up. I am so glad I am home alone and don't have to explain myself to anyone.

I bet Monk would have an almost metronimic sense of timing. I'd say put him on drums. Once he learns a song I bet it's perfection every time.

You know, the old Dick Van Dyke show used to have the characters put on shows and such as a plot point in an episode. And it gave the actors a chance to sing, dance, and do all those things that they never get to do on camera.

I'd love to see Monk have a hallucination, a dream, or even Julie or Natalie daydreaming - just to see them explore those other talents for a stretch.

Oh, and someone in another thread said something about Tony being able to sing. Maybe he's lead vocals? Just a thought.

Oh yes, this is what I am waiting for! I posted on another thread, anything can be done in dreams. I would love to see our foursome sing, dance or whatever.

That would be great, but in what name for their band?

Well, it would be a Monk Rock band - which is a good bit more tidy than a Punk Rock Band. But as for names...

Julie and the Monktones?
The Natalie Teeger Experience?
You'll Thank Me Later?
Leland's Electric Enforcers?

How about just "Randy" - you know with it's clever double meaning.
How about Marblefish?
Or just OCD?

Any other thoughts?

I like Marblefish myself. I mean, Julie's fish DID bring them all together in the first place, right?

Wipe!
Trudy wub.gif I think it's sweet.
The Straights (Like in Rock Show "I have a dream that one day all the hippies and straights will live together in peace. Just not too close because of the smell. tongue.gif )

Egh...okay, I'm gonna have to go with Marblefish. smile.gif
