As soon as you say "no brainer," some waterhead will leave our show off the list. I hope you didn't just jinx it Bubba! lol

(prays) Please let Jason get a nomination. Please, please, please. rolleyes.gif

Yes, I hope it isn't jinxed! I hesitate to say "no brainer" for that very reason. Not being selfish, but I want Tony to win again!! After all, it does need to be an even number...

I've actually read that some people think that Tony should bow out to let others win. I think that would be obscene.

I completely agree!! I think I read that somewhere as well. It isn't his problem if he is a better actor than other people. If you are good enough to get nominated then I think you have every right to accept the award. After all, to get nominated you must be doing something right. Tony definately is. Tony should NOT bow out if he gets nominated!! It isn't fair to him, his family, the show or his fans! Tony has just as much of a right to accept an award or be nominated for an award as every other actor/actress in Hollywood and him to be pressured into bowing out would be a disgrace! It would be just awful! No one tells Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whomever else they should bow out of their nominations. Why should Tony have to?

Those people who would like Tony to bow out are undoubtedly actors whose talent falls short of being able to compete with him. So Tony has to drop out, dumbing down the whole category, to give people with less skill a chance? I thought the idea was to give these awards to the absolute best?

I want to present that award this year. "In the category of Best Actor in a Comedy Series, the nominee is Tony Shalhoub....oh, and here are the other four waterheads who don't have a shot in hell so I don't even know why I'm going to bother....."

I don't think it was an actor who posted it. I think it was just a 'fan' of their favorite actor. But it was still annoying. If you have the chops to be recognized, you should be nominated.

That one article I read made me so angry. The author suggested that he should step aside for some up-and-coming actors who deserved the recognition. I say they can get it when they earn it, but don't put pressure on someone to bow out gracefully. That's just stupid. If Tony has to step aside for someone else to win, have they really won?

Excellent point. The only way to have a shot in the category is to eliminate the best? This isn't a pee wee T-ball tournament where all the 6 year olds get a trophy. And hopefully all these well deserved wins mean Tony's getting offered better scripts. I'd like to see Ted get a nod too, in the supporting actor category. Damn good actor. Another grossly underappreciated, underutilized actor.

Unless they do another live chat with Tony, we'll never know. I can't imagine he step aside to placate fans of other, less talented actors. No one stepped aside for Tony, and he's earning every single one of them.

Until Emmy gets an Emmy, Tony gets a Tony and Traylor gets a... a trailer I guess, Make Mine Monk!

Hey if they aren't good enough to beat out our TS, then they need to sharpen their acting skills I say. Let's fact it - TS rules the best actor in a comedy category. smile.gif

Exactly! If Tony has to step aside for someone else to win then obviously the other person isn't that good to begin with. You guys have no idea how much I loved it when Tony won his 3rd Emmy beating out Steve Carell and Jason Bateman. Now don't get me wrong- I love both of those guys, but of course nowhere near as much as Tony, so when he won it was a huge surprise to everyone and I loved telling anyone who would listen to me who he beat out to win Emmy #3!! To me that's true competition.

No way should Tony step aside. Since he's good enough to get nominated year after year [and winning three times] he sure as heck deserves to have his name continue to be on the list of nominees.

He's an amazing actor, and he should never step aside. That would ruin the entire integrity of the Emmy's.

I agree. If the best is supposed to win the award, making someone step aside, who has won the award 3 times kind of takes the best out of contention. If you take someone, like Tony out of the equation, do we really know if the best really won? If these other actors are good enough to beat Tony (which I don't think they are) then they will beat him whether he drops out or not. No, Tony Shalhoub should NOT take his name out of consideration!

I wholeheartedly agree there's no other actor as talented as Tony Shalhoub in television today. He has the instincts, the timing, and the genius of a modern Chaplin. He has earned every Emmy award he has ever won. He deserves number 4.

Here's from another article metacomet posted in the awards/appearances thread:

"In the category of actor in a comedy, however, the name of Tony Shalhoub must be included. The star of "Monk" has won three Emmys for portraying the title character, and unless he removes his name from contention, he'll continue to be a prime candidate to win."

They can remove their own names from contention? Who would do that?

If Tony's name isn't in there, I'll know it was removed only to soften up the whole category for the other actors who can't win it on their own. The whole rest of the article sounds like it's all heavy handed for putting new names in there. How about leaving the best names in all these categories without worrying how many times a particular actor has already won? Is everybody just taking turns or do these awards always go to the best, no matter how many times they've won?

So, Jason got submitted for Bank. Hmmm, I'm trying to think if he did anything Emmy worthy is Bank. And I was shocked that Traylor isn't the lead actress in Monk.

And, awww. Stanley was nominated.

That is a long list of possible contenders! I haven't even watched most of these shows.

Thank you very much for that list! Yeah, why isn't Traylor considered the female lead in this series? I guess I don't have a bead on how that's determined. It would mean they don't consider that this show has a female lead. And they better give Stanley the emmy! I though Jason was brilliant in The Bank monkisode. Still, I think Ted's a more solid candidate for his role in On The Run. He's been in the game longer as well and with very very very little recognition for his skills. I would have thought SOTL would have been followed by a lot more better scripts than he's gotten. I personally can't put him at Tony's level but he's another actor that has a lot more going on with his acting than most might see on the surface. He doesn't just step on the set and read the lines.

We should have our own awards here. Like posters on all these USA boards could nominate actors just from USA's shows and pick winners.

We could call them the Monkies and give away gold spray painted bobbleheads.

We could call them the Monk-ees but then that would leave out all the other USA programs. lol. Sucks to be them. I suggest, rather than bobbleheads, we give away bronzed wipes, like a hand reaching over, holding one that's dangling down. Ooooh, that sounds good! My creative juices are flowing....

Wow I feel out of touch with what's going on in tv land....the only show on those list that I watch faithfully is Monk. I've tried watching some of the others and end up changing channels (or going to a Monk recorded episode) after about a minute...

And I'm going to do the "Nominate Stanley for an EMMY" good luck dance every day until the Emmy announcements. cool.gif
mjwannabe
That would be such a fitting tribute to nominate Stanely. He so deserves it.
history08
They better give Stanley the Emmy!! That would be such a fitting tribute to a GREAT man and GREAT actor!

That is a very long list. The only show I watch, religiously, of all of them is Monk!!
tdasher
Oh, I hope they nominate our wonderful Stanley and that he wins. That would be a wonderful tribute to him. And, like others have said: This is a long list and I haven't seen most of the those shows. LOL The only one that I watch ALL the time is........MONK!
Thanks, CrystalSmith for posting this list. smile.gif

I can understand why fans of other actors would ask Tony to volentarily take himself out of the running - it comes with the territory - but on reflection I am sure that they would realize that doing so desecrates the meaning of the award, replacing quality with sympathy as the standard.

Very well said. I totally agree. Sympathy votes shouldn't be the standard in honoring excellence.

I totally agree when defending Monk, but on the other side of the coin - I wouldnt mind a bit if everyone up against Stanley just bowed out knowing they'd have another shot if they deserved it. You know?

Fickle, I think that's whatthey call it. I'm fickle for Monk.

Why do I think that would please Monk?

I was so worried, when you talked here that Tony won´t be a Emmy nominee this year. He is the best! When I saw the list I just felt that yippee! He is on it! And all the others from the show also. So fine. It really is a bit scarying long list, but if the nominators do the right thing, they´ll give the prize to Tony. Touching and warming to see Stanley´s name there also. Stanley really deserves get his prize! He was one of my favorites from the beginning. It is a shame (these people who decides emmys) if they ignore him. And it doesn´t hurt me if Taylor also will get hers... Yes, Tony is worthy of the fourth (and it is a even number... ) and Stanley his own.

Yes, I also agree, that irrespective of this year's awards, there should be some special Achievement Award recognizing not only his role in Monk but his entire acting career which ended so tragically.

It was good to see Stanley on that list. With his long history in television, he's overdue for some honor for his role in Monk, arguably his crowning achievement.

It would be nice if they could make this happen in his memory -- at least the nomination.

The actor chooses which category he or she wishes to be nominated in. It may be up to the network to choose the episode for Emmy consideration, unless you have a lot of clout (like Tony does).

I don't think Ted has much of a chance for a nomination in the comedy category for Leland Stottlemeyer, unless the ATAS voters vote for him performing dramatically in a comedy the same way they vote for William Shatner's comedic acting in a drama ... but we can always hope ...

I honestly don't expect anyone else from the show to get nominated besides Tony unfortunately. But what a great surprise it would be if it happened. We can always hope.

If I were Jason, I'd have picked Three Julies. Him in that Granny outfit, talking to the psychotic son, and his scene w/ Nat were both great and FUNNY.

So great. And the voice. He could have so been recognized because he was playing Randy playing Michael (right) Teegers mother. That's acting. I did like him in Bank because he was useful and funny. Maybe he got more screentime? I just liked him in 3 Julies better.

The Thee Julies was just shown in Japan. Jason was hilarious as the dead, stuffed, one-eyed mother trying to remember the code word. My wife broke down laughing.
Kawasakifan
If we could nominate an episode as well as individual actors then The Three Julies would get my vote.

The balance between drama and comedy was perfect: everyone partook of each. The scene where Monk prepares the couch for the elderly neighbor to sit on then he sits himself down first is a classsic -almost Zen like in the rejection of words for immediacy of slient action.

I'm a little curious about this statement. Why wouldn't you think anyone else would be nominated? They are all great actors, imho, and do a great job on the series.

It has nothing to do with the other actors' abilities, it has to do with the whole voting process. Let's face it - aside from Tony, Monk does not get the love it deserves from the academy. How often has Monk been nominated for best comedy? 0 How often in the past has Ted or Jason been nominated? 0 The only other regular actor nominated besides Tony has been Bitty. IMO Ted, Jason and Traylor all deserve to be nominated, but will they? I think the odds are against them unfortuantely.
