ciaddict I guess you can't please everyone. If I felt as strongly about Chris Noth as some people do, I might be really tempted to post to the negative thread as well. But I am psyched that they got such a talented actor even though I will miss Chris.

Welcome to LOCI, JG! I can't wait to see your new role in LOCI after your ID days! smile.gif

Got this email from my friend who knows Jeff G (they're both active in the same theater group out in LA)

"I *just* spoke to him in person and read him your email [I told this friend to say congrats and welcome to CI to Jeff G from most of us here]. It made him really happy to know that people seem so excited to have him on the show!"

The Vault (a happy Jeff G should be a good thing for CI fans)

That's so great!! Happy that Jeff is looking forward to being on the show, and cares what the fans think. biggrin.gif

Nothing against our beloved VDO or Noth, but Goldblum is much more a household name (and face) than either one of them. He's been in several Blockbuster movies in lead roles. I mean, everyone has seen Jurassic Park & Independence Day, haven't they? Can't say the same for VDO's films, except Men In Black & he was unrecognizable. Noth only has "SATC" and mostly women in a particular bracket go to see that.

My point is that Goldblum could attract a whole slew of new casual viewers. And that's a good thing. More viewers keeps VDO on the little screen for another season. tongue.gif
Jryan
Well, this isn't the place for this, but I felt The addiction of Chris Noth saved VDO. I wasn't a big fan, but if it kept VDO as Goren I was all for it. Half a series with VDO as Goren was better than none, and I am forever in his debt.

Now with Jeff Goldblum coming on board, I have the same welcoming feelings. I am excited to see how they will portray his character, in the CI world and how he will work with Wheeler, but I feel maybe Falacci might have been better suited for him. But Thanks, Jeff, for coming on board, cause still half a season with VDO is better than none.

Now if it were the other way around? Jeff was replacing VDO? I would be furious, I would quit watching CI, I would be crying me a river. Oh my I have to go, I don't want to even think about it. But I wouldn't be bashing Jeff, it's not his fault.

So welcome aboard Jeff! The noromo's welcome you!

I have been wondering lately if the executives at CI had Jeff Goldblum waiting in the wings in case VDO decided to leave.

Jeff tends to always play the same type of character as Goren, as has been mentioned in several posts above.

I refuse to compare Jeff to VDO, because there is no way to compare VDO to anyone. He is in a class by himself.

Now with Chris leaving, they already have their man.

I don't really thing that was it. Vincent has made it pretty clear he wasn't going anywhere while Chris has been sounding pretty ambivilent for a while now.

I think this is a shift to get the two halves of the show more in sync with each other. My mom (a Noth fan) always accuses me of not likeing the Logan episodes, but she's wrong about that. I like them, in the same way I like the mothership episodes. That's what they feel like; regular Law and Order episodes just witout the lawyers. They're fun to watch once, but I'm not going to record them and watch 3-4 times to absorb evey nuance of the performances because, well, there are just less layers involved.

But with Jeff coming in, I'm thinking the off episodes might just seem more like the others. I'm ready for more quirky brilliance and I'm not worried that it'll be a copy at all. My greatest hopes are that Jeff and the writers come up with something as interesting, brilliant and multifaceted as Goren but as unique as Jeff has always been in everything he does.

Good Luck Jeff!

I have been wondering lately if the executives at CI had Jeff Goldblum waiting in the wings in case VDO decided to leave.

For several years now, everytime something happens on CI - the assumption is that it's because VDO is 'leaving'? As far as I've ever been able to tell - he made one comment in one interview years ago. (that's been rehashed in other written pieces, not during other interviews though) that he was done when his contract was up. Well, that never happened. He's even said, he's quite happy there, but we don't seem to be able to believe that. Has he ever really lied to us? wink.gif

It's not as if the thread is about his character on the show. He has been in the public eye for awhile now - people have formed impressions about him. I'm guessing yours are not too favorable? cool.gif

I am just paranoid. Also, his character has been in such a deep spiral for so long, it would be an easy character-driven out if he wanted to leave.

As far as I know, he has yet to re-sign. If he is all about quality work, he has another excuse too.

Why wouldn't he re-sign, it is just 8 episodes?

ITA. I was also thinking that, with this new split, LOCI would be more like the Columbo/McMillan & Wife/Mccloud Murder Mystery weeks of way back when. I really liked M&W and Columbo (a bit disappointed when it was McCloud's week) and thought they were both equally excellent. I'm hoping that will be the case next season with LOCI. Of course, I'll always have a bigger sense of excitement when it's G/E week but, still... I hope I'll look forward to a Jeff G week as well. We'll see.
Welcome Aboard Jeff!
DonnaLJo
The more I think about it, the more I see Goldblum's character butting heads with both Captain Ross & Wheeler, at least initially. That is if he plays his usual know-it-all, cocky, hyper, all-over-the-place character.

Definitely some eye rolling from Wheeler will be in order. And Ross will absolutely lose all patience.

Can't wait for the possible fireworks. wink.gif

JeffFan - welcome along! I hope you enjoy yourself here. We are - in the words of the wonderful Douglas Adams - "Mostly Harmless"

I loved Jeff G in a film he made thousands of years ago called "The Tall Guy", with Emma Thompson. Very very funny film, I recommend it.

I still like Jurassic Park and Independence Day the best. I can still see his explaining the "chaos theory" using the back of the womans hand...

I think it will be good too. I am eager to see how it plays out, how they are introduced. I wonder if they will work a case together to get aquainted, like Goren/Eames and Logan/Barrick did. That would be cool.

No I do not in any way think Jeff G is HOT. I still picture him in the movie "the fly." Yuk... However, he is a great actor and can play quirky as well as serious. I'm not a real fan of Goren or Eames they are both good but I'm just not crazy about there characters. I think if Jeff G's character is written well he can add some life into the show (as long as the writing is good). Then again there are only so many Law and Orders out there it's bound to happen that shows either become repetative or become impausable. Only time will tell.

Okay, I know USA are smart people and have a reason for playing it...but I watched Jurassic Park earlier today. I have to say, not necessarly hot to me...he is cute and intriguing in a nerdy sort of way (I guess I may as well admit, I am hooked on Vince, big surprse huh?, so to me there is no comparison), but I am really looking foward to how Jeff commits to a LOCI character. I think it will be a new and exciting thing to look forward to with the next season. I also thank him for joining our "team" to keep our show going strong. cool.gif

PS I like the glasses on Jurassic Park. Those squarish, black frames seem to fit his personality! And he does have a nice smile...makes you smile to see it.

There is a thread somewhere about Chris leaving that has a link to articles. Chris is leaving at the end of this season and Jeff Goldblum will replace him next season. And there is some speculation as to whether Logan will be killed off. I just saw that little write-up this morning and read it quickly. I believe it also says he will play a detective who gets into the psychology the criminals. So he will be profiling like Goren does? I'm not worried about him trying to copy Goren, I know that Jeff will put his own spin on his character. But it will be interesting to see how he is recieved by fans. One of the complaints I've read about the Logan episodes over the last few years is that they are too much like the Mothership episodes and not what CI was supposed to be. So if we have both sets of detectives delving into the "criminal intent" side of things, will that make people happy? Somehow I suspect not. There will be too many unfavorable comparisons to Goren. But I'm planning to like this new detective and enjoy watching his episodes.

I’m all for more psychologically driven episodes. That used to be one of my complaints about the Logan episodes. They weren’t very CI like in comparison to Goren/Eames episodes; although, I think the Logan/Wheeler episodes have greatly improved this second half of the season. I think they should deal more with what’s going on in the minds of the perps. This is Major Case, detectives at the top of their game (so to speak) and the show is about the criminal’s intent. I’m excited that they got JG to come on board and look forward to his first episode. cool.gif I hope they do an episode with Goren/Eames and JG/Wheeler. I like how SVU involves everyone.

( dramaqueen) No I can't say Jeff is hot, but compared to Vince who is? I just saw a video on T.V. Guide, he was being asked about the show, he knows next to nothing about his character, not even the name, he's looking forward he says to being on the show, and said he will begin filming in September, but when asked if he was taking a vacation before starting he said no he is headed for New York to find a place to live and meet some cops. It was a fun interview maybe someone can get it on the board so everyone can watch it, he seems very nice, a lovely way of speaking to the reporter like he had all the time in the world to talk to her.

Why not? Hey, maybe after he joins the show, there will be some new members around here who would like to sign up for that particular duty? As KimT, JudyG and I will tell you and can attest to first hand, there are times when "guard duty" gets a little "hands on"..... rolleyes.gif

Oh no, Jeff has a stalker?! That's terrible! Do you think you and KimT can guard him as well as Dr. Goren, FM?

I am certainly up to trying! I take my Guard Duty very seriously!

Why not? Hey, maybe after he joins the show, there will be some new members around here who would like to sign up for that particular duty? As KimT, JudyG and I will tell you and can attest to first hand, there are times when "guard duty" gets a little "hands on"..... rolleyes.gif

The photograph above showcased in a science photo exhibit held in Munich, Germany shows a house fly donning mini-spectacles. Scientists used special laser technology to give the fly new look with these 2 mm spectacles adoring its head.

In my opinion, Jeff is not hot, but he is fly. (bwaa haa haa haa)

Hahhaha! Good one!

On the set: Makeup! His eyes are too shiney!

I'm glad I read some of the comments here, because now I feel positive energy--that JG will bring in new fans, that he will breath new life, his quirkiness will stimulate the writers. This could be a really synergetic thing. Thanks for the upbeat note.

I am really looking forward to it as well. i have been telling everyone!

I am keeping my fingers crossed that JG will be wearing shades on his first eppy in LOCI smile.gif
