OK, I know this is the Monk board, but I know some of you also watch Law and Order. I have caught a couple of episodes here and there and they seem to mimic real life stories. I never usually watch this show and remember TV Guide once stating that there was a show that did take real life situations and kept it true as possible to air as a series. Just wondering if L&O is that show.

I think the TV Guide might be talking about a different series. There was a "reality" Law & Order show a couple of years back where each episode followed an actual criminal prosecution ...

Law & Order (the original, SVU & CI) takes the gyst of a real life story/murder/crime (they call it "ripped from the headlines") and gives it a "twist" at the end that doesn't mimic the real-life conclusion of the crime. It's kind of like the difference between the ending of the book "Hannibal" and the movie "Hannibal" ...

Oh, here's a better analogy: "Mr. Monk Gets Fired" starts out like the Laci Peterson murder (so similar that the murderer even looks like Scott Peterson) ... but the motive, etc., are entirely different (even though the murderer is caught and convicted) ... does that make sense?

LOL, I like that analogy. So true. The L&O shows do the "ripped from the headlines" ploy. The episodes are loosely based on true events.

The reason I asked is because the one I saw this morning was almost exactly llike what happened to Anna Nichole Smiths son after she had her baby.

Oh yeah, that one was a complete ripoff of Anna Nicole's life and death.

And speaking of L&O, Chris Noth is leaving the show.

I will miss him on the show. That episode that they had about that was bad.

Really, I just started to take notice of him lately, kind of handsome. I never watched Sex and The City or Law and Order,so never really noticed him before.

I don't feel one way or another about him leaving really. I didn't usually watch the episodes he was in, but Jeff Goldblum is supposed to replace him and I don't care for him much at all so I guess I still won't be watching the episodes that don't feature Goren and Eames.

Well, I definitely won't be watching CI at all now. Goren just got on my nerves finally. He's brilliant and quirky, and all that, but I just got tired of the character. So, was watching only Logan ones. Haven't watched any lately......Why is Logan leaving this time?? Did he punch a city councilman again??

I went through a period of Goren getting on my nerves too. But I still like him. Actually I have so much respect for Vincent D'Onofrio's acting ability that I won't abandon the character. Never did really like Chris Noth's character too much. I am not sure how they are going to write him off the show now. I need to go check out the CI board and see what they are saying.

laugh.gif punch out another councilman?

I know Chris Noth was on the original L&O then came to L&O CI, is he leaving CI? I do like Goren, I'm attracted to those men who have quirky dark sides but brilliant minds. When I heard Chris Noth was coming to CI I wasn't impressed and that I wouldn't like him as I didn't like him on L&O but he's grown on me. USA just had a Logan marathon in the last 6 weeks. I watched most of it.

I also watch a lot of 'Forensic Files, American Justice, North Mission Road' and other shows which feature stories from the headlines. I've seen those same stories played out, like Tami said, on the L&O series with just a slightly different plot twist.

At the very end of one L&O epi, Logan reaches into a car and punches a city councilman whom he disliked veeeeeery much. The man was very arrogant, and was trying to make people believe that in his personal life he was sympathetic to gay person's problems. Turned out, he was a hypocrite. He said something really smart-a&& to Logan, and Logan just reached in and punched. I applauded. biggrin.gif But, apparently, that got Logan banished to Staten Island, because I don't think he was on L&O again after that. ( Chris Noth went on to Sex & The City) Actually, now that I think about it, the councilman and Logan were possibly standing outside the car, and Logan punched him and sorta threw him into the car. (Yes, I am waaaaaaaaaay too much of a L&O fan.)

I always felt Logan was a bit arrogant, but rewatched the epis where his first two partners were shot, and felt sorry for him. He really did care about his partners, and wasn't so bad after the first season. Like you said, he grows on you.
I do like the Goren character, I just need a break from him every now and then. Loved Vincent D'Onofrio in Full Metal Jacket. He was great in that movie. He really knows how to play the um, shall we say, "strange" characters.
