I have another story I am thinking of doing, I just thought if would be nice to know who is interested in being Betas. Or who has the time, I know I have spook doing one and CIaddict. But I hate to be pushy and ask them to do another, cause they are writing there own stories and doing stories for others. So I thought it would be nice to have a thread where people could post if they are interested in proof reading other people's stories.

I'm willing to try my hand at it, although I have never been a beta before. I have taken note of those who have already volunteered, as I never had any of my writing beta read before (as I'm sure some of you may have already noticed.)

The biggest help a beta can give is with proof-reading for typos, grammar, punctuation problems, etc. After a beta has a feel for where the writer wants a story to go and how the author's style, then a beta can help with flow, continuity, word choice, transitions, etc. Hope this helps.

I probably should add a link to LozzieCap's Dictionary of AngloAmerican Aphorisms and Euphanisms but I'll be darned if I can find it any place.
"Stroppy" or "bolshy" or "narky" - um, well, I guess a good American word which is similar is "ornery". But ornery people are normally like that all the time, whereas ANYONE can have an attack of the stroppies

I'm also a great one for giving explanations that are too detailed. I love it when Goren does the same thing.
I love language!

"stroppy" is actually one of my favorite words, haha, although I'd have been at a loss as to how to explain it.
I volunteer myself as a beta! I've been doing it in various fandoms for about five years. I do the grammar and typo bit very seriously, but I also focus on giving the writer as much feedback as I can, so they can see their fic from someone else's eyes.

I wasn't implying I didn't understand what betas do, just that I've never done it for anyone other than myself... and anyone would be taking a chance with a newbie, but you have to start somewhere right?
Can you beta yourself? No, not very effectively, as anyone who has read my stuff can see

- because often times you see what you thought you wrote instead of what you actually did write - but I'm great at seeing problems (or what I perceive as problems) with other's writing.

Wasn't sure if you knew what a beta was, so was kind of addressing anyone who was curious.
I agree with you on the whole seeing what you thought you wrote instead of what you really wrote. Especially since spell-check isn't very good at choosing the correct homonym, only telling you if the homonym you chose is spelled correctly or not..

That's fine. I'm warning you though, I'm honest and blunt. Some people mistake it for being mean, but I try not to say anything negative without either a suggestion or a postive aspect as well. I will not blow a bunch of sunshine to make you feel good if it isn't good.

If the need arrises, I would be able to proof work, but be forwarned, English/History teacher, prolific writer, and all-around pain in the a** when it comes to keeping the work readable and understandable. Expect a great amount of highlighting of your technical writing and questions about meaning if it is unclear - but I have proofed several thesis and papers and they all received high marks.

I wouldn't mind if someone could help me rewrite my story the second chapter on. I mean redo everything. Not onething stays the same (sadly, but who cares) ::yawns:: well anybody up to make a horrible story less horrible?
And I know fussycat still thinks the story is mine. Tell me, fussy cat would I be this obsessed in saying I created Abbi, and be being obsessed with her when she's not even my charecter? Ok hard to explain I know. (Ok I know I was just sounding like Nicole Wallace)

Well I guess your comments are directed at me, but I'm not sure... but if you really want to see me get fussy keep calling me
fussy cat, my screen name is Fuss
eKat, or even Kat for short
.
(As of now it's the only name I have on this board, we'll see what happens if I ever getted logged out & can't get back in...)
I'm sorry but, I don't know what you're talking about.... What story? Which Abbi? Have we 'talked' before? You say you want help rewriting your story and then in the next paragraph, imply the story isn't yours when you say I think it is. I'm totally confused.
I'm going to work now, but if you have anything else to direct to me, send me a PM and maybe we can figure this out.

This is one of the multiple ID's that tornheartworld, meantforbobby, bensonbrave and morganfree created. I suspect she's just trying to waste your time Kat. It's what she does.
How do you pronounce your login name?

I don't want to waste anybody's time. I had a great (like awsome) day today so don't help me screw it up by telling the world I'm horrible. ::evil laugh:: (I can actually do a pretty good evil laugh, it's kinda evil actually, not what you'd expect)
