Great start!
I thought they made two brilliant moves to kick off the new season. First, the new puppetmaster with the huge but unknown agenda, resources and power. We still get to discover the "man beind the curtain" bit by bit, but with a few twists. Micheal is no longer choosing his own adventures for the most part... that's gotta be a little uncomfortable for him.
Also, he gets to make requests and demands that will be indulged or rebuffed. It doesn't all have to be whatever he can scrape together with almost no budget. Sometimes he'll be given things... like the guns from the opening scene. Opens up a world of possibilities, doesn't it?
Second, Fiona backing away from wanting a relationship with him. I know, I made the boo boo face when it happened too... but this way, the tango continues. Drawn together but held apart. They can go on dancing closer and spinning away for ages. As much as we all wanna see everything work out for them, it's so much more dramatic when they don't.
I'm dating myself here, but remember how much less interesting Cheers was after Sam and Diane finally became a couple? They had a cute moment here and there after that, but mostly it was a big snore. You know who did it right? The West Wing. Josh and Donna make the decision to get on that plane together and give their relatinship a real try in the final episode. Now that's good television.
ps: I'm usually a Criminal Intent gal, but this show has really captured my interest in a big way so I thought I'd pop over and toss my two cents in the jar. Howdy
