Here's a bit of an "It's a small world for everybody." The guy who plays Jimmy in the season premiere of Burn Notice, was also on an episode of The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. More specifically an episode titled Crystal Hawks. That lucky bastard has worked with Bruce TWICE!

Love the cap of Mikey. As for South African. I know of a few people from there but it's hard to distinquish that accent from what Michael was using as I haven't heard it in a while. And yes, the accent was affected but I don't much care just so long as he keeps talking.... Anything to keep him on screen. He could stand in one spot for the entire hour cooing like a baby and I would still just sit and watch....

Funny, I feel the exact same way. Except it's with Bruce Campbell not Jeffrey Donovan. The season premiere needed more of Sam.

Hey, am I the only one this is happening to? I'm trying to watch the premier again online and it keeps skipping back to the scene where JD meets the mercenary for the first time; is there a glitch in the episode and if so how do I get someone's attention to fix it? I really want to see this again!

I was watching epis in season I (a little questions research, you might say...not to mention trying to keep up with all the catch phrases around here....smile.gif ) and it was happening to me there too...I thought it was just my pathetic wireless connection...

PS -- is it just me or does it annoy anyone else that if you have to restart an episode you have to sit there through all the Cannon commercials to get where you were in the first place!?!?!?! (and for heaven sake, even if it's the same company/product...how bout a little variety in the presentation....this is where I start to think Product Placement (instead of commercials) may not be such a bad idea after all!!!!!

Ok, coming off the soapbox now smile.gif

OK, all is well--I got it to work again, and now I'm happy. biggrin.gif But yeah, the same commercial over and over is getting to me, plus the jingle is going through my head obsessively, so I'm pushing the mute button when it comes on.

Fire the Sound Mixer!! I've been waiting months for this season premiere and I couldn't hear a word of the first episode until the last half. What the blank is going on?? I love music as much as anyone, but this was bloody ridiculous. I erased my copy from TiVO (no, it's NOT my machine's problem, nor is it my Bose system's, etc.) and am going to re-record. I caught a rerun and the sound was a little better, but not by much. If I want loud music and unintelligible conversation, I'll go to a bar, thanks....

It may have been whoever you get your signal through. The sound was fine when I watched it! But there have been times when sound cuts out on Dish and I can turn on another tv with cable and it is just fine.

LOL. Yeah, but remember artistic integrity. They have to fit in to the story wink.gif .

How about a brain-storming session Galpals! As far as I can tell, the writers are all men, so let's help 'em out.

My first idea: wet t-shirt, then has to take it off b/c it's wet -- many ways it could happen (kayaking, has to fix mom's garbage disposal b/c it actually does break).

(We Galpals love JD, and we admire him first and foremost because he's a great actor and a really good guy, so no humiliating of him allowed.)

I seriously doubt we'll see 16 shirtless scenes but maybe in future episodes. It was a mock comment with a laugh regarding it. And you never say Wet t shirt to a group of men. Means a whole diff storyline for them. And doll clothes were just for Sam trying to fit into Mikey's clothes. That I could watch again and again. Just CUZ.

I love the fact that Jeffrey throws in accents, as he loves trying them out in different ways, but I know that in Come Early Morning he got the role due to the fact that he did do a southern accent slightly better than some original southerners and. At first in the opening of the new BN eppie. He started with what to me seemed like an English accent but with the MATE it turned to a pretty good Aussie accent. Having known former sports people who are Australian, I thought he did a great job, and yes, he does from time to time go between accents. That is because he really wants to do a good job with the accents and sometimes forgets because he gets caught up in thought and speech. It's a trademark, you can't mess with it. And besides, he always looks so adorable when things go slightly off kilter. smile.gif

And that is my UNWANTED two cents.

I'm going to add my two cents, too. I have worked as a dialect coach for years and I can tell you Donovan is GOOD! Everyone who has ever heard an accent thinks he is an expert. There are many different southern accents, Aussie accents, Northern Irish, cockney, (not to be confused with Liverpool)etc. Matt Nix hired JD for his ability to create different characters (Heard that in an interview) and they deliberately write scenes to afford him that opportunity.

Just enjoy the show!

I can only assume, since JD said he worked with a dialect coach, that his Terry Miller character's accent was exactly as he wanted it. I'm not sure what accent that was. I do agree that there are regional accents within any country. So, it may be quite possible that some accents sound like a blend of others.

Anyway, I'm trying really hard not to be defensive when hearing criticisms of my JD, especially, since as an actor, he is used to it. Thanks for your post. It helps validate my line of thinking.

Maybe we should try to remember that posting on the board is for fun. I am not out to be mean to anybody, just to critique what I see as a weakness. Too bad we are all a little sensitive about these conversations. And my criticism stands. I guess I just have a more attuned ear to hearing the accents and being able to tell where they are more or less accurate. Hey, nobody's perfect and I still enjoy the show and Jeffrey Donovan's acting expertise.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm just saying your criticism is way off. Donovan's ear is spot on. Another thing very few people think about is that the dialogue must be understood--listen to Colin Farrel when he's just being himself--(not in an interview, but in a bar)a very authentic Irish accent, I must admit, but you can't understand a friggin' word of it. Likewise some Aussies and lower income English. Recently my family and I were in London and saw Billy Eliot, loved the movie, but couldn't understand a word of the stage production and no one in our party enjoyed it. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

I hope you don't think I'm censoring your posts. I don't necessarily like having everyone agree with me. I'm from a family that respects people that have a firm grasp of their own thoughts and opinions and who aren't afraid to let anyone know. With that said, I welcome your opinions even if they are different from mine. Even so, I defer to anyone that has superior knowledge of a subject to mine. In this case, I think both you and dramamama are much well suited to judge the accent than I. I hope both of you will continue posting when you do disagree. I enjoy hearing differing views. It adds spice to the discussions.

My critique is not way off. It is a valid assessment of Jeffrey Donovan's accent expertise (or as I see it, lack thereof). Another thing few people think about is that sometimes linguistics assessments can be subjective. There are baseline standards and other qualifiers, but I am just as right as anyone else in the profession might be who would give a different assessment.
