Hi Bubba here, this thread is a little lonely tonight.

Just a little joke.

What did you guys think of tonight's episode?

I liked it, but it wasn't amazing. Marshall was awesome as usual, though.

I'm going to have to watch it again to get everything that was going on (it's gonna be tough I know..LOL), but I enjoyed it. I really like Sherry Springfield, ever since she was on ER. I was worried a little when Mary's sister was alone with her "boyfriend", figuring something was going to happen, I don't really like her sister very much. (sorry, some of the names of the characters haven't stuck with me yet.)
Glad to see Marshall in his own scenes, that one where the mistress tried to get with Marshall was HOT! Who wouldn't!?! Nice to see him taking charge and walking out though and at the end helps her! I so luv his character!
Plus his injured arm sling was Hot too! Hehehe!

Hiya IPSFan5! *Waves* I would'a glomed you over on the Marshall Appreciation thread, but I'm posting too much. I still might though since your belt buckle comment almost resulted in me sputtering wine over my computer. *g*
It was the chick from ER? Fantastic! I was sitting there going "It looks like..." but second guessing myself. And the arm-in-the-sling made me so happy so happy I was off offering sacrifice to the gods of continuity, rather than complaining that there's been an awful lot of shooting in the series so far.
OverallI was a little disappointed in the episode. Don't get me wrong, the mystery itself was very nicely done, but it's the first time they've split up Mary and Marshall and especially after last week's M&M-fest, I missed their interaction. This is the first week I've forgotten to rewatch at 1 am. Usually I'm watching the time click by

On a gut level I'm also super cranky because Raph is back way too soon, Bobby D's being moved in fast and hard and I thought he was homicide?, Maybe Marsh doesn't have a love interest but that chick was definately a prelude to one and I'm not sure where Squish is suddenly coming from but all together there was so much going on. Too many characters moving forwards with their characters. *pouts* Ok, things were moving very slowly before, but now they're now uber fast and I need my M&M afterglow.
On a happier front: Go Pie! Go rambles! Go, um, wood! (E: And booties) Yay for elevator conversations and knocking at doors by kicking them! Yay for Marshall almost-kinda getting his own witness! Yay for Squish having skill and emotion and engaging wit!
But what on earth was with the shooting of the door last episode (Trojan Horse) since apparently she wasn't opening the lock?
-edit to Squee over Marshall walking, walking, walking away without a word! And is that the same motel with our favourite deaf chick?

I want to like this show. I really want to like this show. I have a couple of huge issues that are cropping up, though. A couple of weeks ago they have Mary push her car across the train tracks to beat an oncoming train. This week they have her brush off dirt from her pants leg in a crime scene. These things are just jumping out at me and making me crazy.

Edit to say, phoo. Hi Robinscats! Welcome to our crazy board and I hope you find a happy place to tear apart IPS's faults and enjoy it's fantastic moments. Which are many yes?

Anyway, I have a compulsive need to understand everything, so I have to ask:
Hrm. What was wrong with the the train-track scene for you?
And the dirt brushing was bad, I admit. (Er, do you mean procedurally?) -> As was the break in. But not so much, really. It was, as I read it, wood dust from the crime scene. And actually it's really believable for her to happily dust herself off, even assuming she's knowledgable about protocol, given what I know of cops and crime scenes. Seriously, in that situation no one's looking at patterns of sawdust on the floor. That is, given what I've been told by cops in an almost-city. Where stuff they also told me includes the fact that most crime scenes (non-murder) don't even get a work up because people hate the mess that fingerprinting dust and stuff entails.

Enjoyed the episode. Favorite scenes: (1) Mary and the wood. (2) Marshall and the poolside baptism of The-Other-Woman; and (3) Mary and Ralph serenely on the sofa and Sis upon seeing them, quickly backing from the doorway.
Also, I thought Ralph had great rapport with Sis. This is the first time I've really liked him as more than eye-candy. It was good to see him in a situation where everything doesn't revolve around the tension within his relationship with Mary.
Back to the Sis and Ralph. The obvious leaning is that she is attracted to him in her own right. But, there is also the possibility is that she is wondering why she has not found someone who cares about her the way Ralph cares about Mary (one missed birthday party do not a relationship break). After all, the guy she is "holding" for is not likely to be a very nurturing person AND, clearly not honest (understatement).
Plus, you CAN be glad that someone has something (love, for instance), you consider fantastic, wonder why you haven't been as lucky, and still not want what the other person has—simply something just as good.
Sis advising Mary that if she leaves Ralph out there some woman is going to snatch-him-up is her way of saying that he (and no other sane person) is going to wait forever. This made the sofa scene at the end where Mary is actually "showing Ralph some tenderness", and Sis darts back in order not to intrude, more affecting.
Is she not intruding because she can't bear that it's Mary, not her, who gets to caress Ralph's hair, or is it that she just doesn't want to interrupt "their time" together?
Oh, and if the obvious leaning in the Ralph/Sis relationship turns out to be the way it goes then: The heart wants what the heart wants.

I really, really enjoyed this weeks episode! It had my chuckling out loud several times...which is a rarity for me!! I was amused by her dumping her champagne and telling Jay to pee in the glass!!!
Marshall was in rare form!!! I loved his lecture on being morally culpable...now eat your pie!! Him ignoring the mistress as she hurled insults at him! oh, Mary and the wood was pretty good too!
I must admit, sister Brandy is starting to grow on me. She finally came off her high horse a bit and was nice to Raphael and she actually showed some real emotion for Mary. Now Jinx, maybe she'd grow on me if she weren't so silly.

Questions about the episode. How likely is that someone who was into the art forgery/thievery business in his old life would be allowed to enter into the same kind of profession in his new life? I thought the ideal was to divest yourself of your “easily identifiables” from your past. Also, I would think that opening/running a gallery is kind of too high profile for a person in hiding. Even if the folks who want you dead are locked away, it’s probably not forever.
Also found the take-along-the-mistress part quirky. I can see him wanting to take her, but I can’t figure out why she would want to leave everything and everyone and go. I’ve known someone who took a job in another state and moved his wife and his mistress to the new location. But, in this case she didn’t have to break of communications with everyone in her past and no one was out to kill her benefactor and her too if she happened to be with him. I know the mistress came across as flaky and not too bright, but still…

I was asking that one too. I can only assume that they justified it because he's into the art scene in a very small way now, and wasn't highly visible before.

While this one gave me some problems as well, I think it comes down to the fact that the mistress doesn't have a life. Which they tried to sort out through her interaction with Marshall. She's a big void, and her life, in a real way, revolved around her mistress status. And as such, being moved away from the world to (still) be with him was a small price to pay, and actually probably served toreinfoce the sense of importance that she craves. After all, this makes her super special.
She's so very, very dependant upon male support that it wouldn't surprise me if she didn't really have close friends. It also seems doubtful she was supporting herself through some sort of career, in which case - what was stopping her from ditching everything and moving off for the guy who purports to love her?

I was wondering the same thing. I guess for certain stuff we're supposed to suspend reality. However, I still enjoyed the episode a lot.
I agree the mistress part was a bit silly, but I guess to add to the suspects in his attempted murder.

I enjoyed this episode. I especially loved Marshall's mature and even caring reaction to the mistress throwing herself at him.
As for my criticism of the storylines for Mary's mom and sister on that conversation thread, this episode was much better in that regard. The scenes with Mary's sister were IMHO appropriately limited given how messed-up she is and that this is intended to be mostly a comedy. (I don't think the mom and sister characters should be cut -- some realism is definitely necessary to keep the show from being too fake and thus annoying as some sit-coms are to me.)

This was another great episode.
Every week I am falling in love more and more with the characters of this show.
Marshall, after being shot last week, really had one of his best episodes, so many nice one liners.
I love the interaction between Mary and Bobby D, they have just a wonderful chemistry. While when I see her with Raphael to me it's more like an old friend kind of thing, it's comfortable, you know each other, but not exciting, but Bobby D and Mary....red hot fireworks!
Loved the sister in that episode, to the point I almost felt real sorry for her. Here was this gorgeous man who had bought a an engagement ring and wanted to commit a future. And knowing her own situation I think she wished it was her. And somehow I see more chemistry between Sister and Raphael.
Absolutely loved seeing Sherry Stringfield, I was never much of an ER fan, but I used to love her on Guiding Light, many many many years ago.
Definetely an epsiode I will rewatch just to catch all the little details and one liners again.
Loved loved loved the show! Keep em coming!

I DEFINITELY agree. I love the character development on IPS and that is where so many shows fall short and I end up losing interest. I'm LOVING
MY Marshall.
He is such a sweet and WISE soul!!
LOVED see Sherry Stringfield and she looked

I actually think in future episodes we will be seeing MUCH more depth coming from her sister. I actually think the actress that plays Mary's sister has the capacity to demonstrate great range (as she's shown in many scenes). I think it will be interesting to see her evolve, because I think there's a lot MORE to her and she'll be facing on live altering moments. I also think it was very telling that BOTH Mary and Brandi rushed to Mary's side after side after Marshall was shot. It was a very poignant moment that showed they DO need each other. I don't think they should be cut either.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the name of the song that was playing toward the end of the episode? I would also like to know who sings it. It starts right about the time the lady is diving into the pool and Mary is looking at the photos on the computer. Thanks!!

It's still early so I'm not flashing on the name of the song at the moment, but if I'm not mistaken, it was a Rick Springfield song. He's an old favorite of mine.

I admit I was actually expecting to be really disappointed by this ep when I saw the previews. "Great, chick fight, that's a great use of characters and expectation." (sarcasm)
However, I was pleasantly surprised, and particularly delighted at the nonverbal subtexts - especially in the scene where Mary is buttering up Bobby D, and if you watch, Marshall is nonverbally giving her a thumb's up/go for it. Also, her scene in the art studio? Mary McCormack has some fabulous comic chops.
I make it policy in season 1 of a show to keep myself uninvested in prefered ships. I adore Marshall. I like Bobby D. The last episode finally revealed that Raphael has a point.
But I'm waiting. Until we know more character background, I'm not making any calls. I like the characters as they are, and I still contend that Mary doesn't have to have just one "twu wuv."
