What is a Zemenian?

Are we talking about a fictional country?

Zemen, Zemenia??

Or do I need to brush up on my geography?

Usually when TV goes to the trouble of making up a whole fictional country, there's some kind of intrigue afoot.

Spoiler:
Just conjecture here, but could the model be a princess? or a spy?

memebeck49
Awwwwwww, dangnabit. I thought the pretty face was gonna be me. sad.gif

Hey, Leland---I used to look just like the 1960s model Twiggy. You know, short hair (after chopping off the hair that I grew for around ten years that reached to my bottom end), big eyes with lots of makeup, no "womanly charms" to speak of. Wouldja settle for a slightly older, more rounded version of Twiggy??? Huh, huh?? Wouldja, wouldja, pleeeeeeeease????

I wonder if the rumored "Romance" is refering to this episode described in the official episode listing as a "crush"? If it is, it would seem to be a step down in the intensity ranking of romance.

I wonder also how Natalie factors in this equation?

I wonder too. Will Natalie be jealous, and realize she really does love Monk?

I'm with you, here. I think she already knows she loves him and just how she feels about him, and it's not in a romantic way and she is happy that he is showing interest in someone.

I'm not going to lay down any money on this bet. I know how I'd like it to be. But besides being cheap, I'm afraid your scenario is more in keeping with what we've already seen. (Little Monk)

But... if they did want to explore some "movement along those lines," this would seem to be an ideal way to do it.

I belive that 'movements along those lines," was in reference to the question about M/N which Tony, before saying that infamous quote, changed to whether the relationship would remain 'professional', which was DERN frustrating for everyone involved. Because, as we know, 'professional' can take many meanings. NnShpprs would take it as how close they would get personally (like Monk/Sharona wouldn't be considered a truely 'professional' relationship, but more close friends who work together) Dern that TS to heck for doing that.

This one looks really good.

Spoiler:

We start with Randy, he's out on a date with Amanda, they've been drinking, not too much, but, they're "smiley" Randy is trying to hail a cab down. One comes by, but keeps going.
Amanda says it's freezing, Randy, being Randy, is too oblivious to this, and just agrees, Amanda, freezing, remarks on Randy's nice blazer, Randy-ish bit... finally he realises she's cold, and gives her his coat, remarking, on the fact that he notices everything because he's a detective.

They notice a taxi a block ahead, they run towards it.

What they don't know, is, that the cabbie is dead, murdered, gruesomly.

The two of them scramble inside the taxi all giggly, NOT realising that the cabbie is dead.

The two are still too oblivious to this, Randy tells him the address... still, they don't realise...
Randy keeps pointing out to Amanda how he notices everything... uh-huh...

Amanda points out that they're not moving, she finally realises he's dead.

Next day, HQ. The dead cabbie is ID as Drazen Mirko, 50s. He was stabbed multiple times with a hatpin, so they asume that killer is female.

We jump to a Zemenian refugee relocation centre, Zemenia, the make-believe country.

They have a possible suspect, Leyla Zlatavich, beautiful...

Monk stares at her, like we've never seen before, he's smitten.

Monk declares her innocent, just like that.

the rest are distracted, Monk, being Monk... Leyla thinks he's a refugee, Monk is dumb-founded he can only nod...

Monk is really smitten, a lot of Monk and Leyla scenes... like we've never seen before...
He is really smitten...

Later on Natalie tells Monk that he has to stop seeing her... they think Monk is obstructing the case...

Oh, wow... So this really is a romance then, and not just a crush. It will be interesting to see how all this pans out. I have mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, I think it is good because it really reestablishes Monk as a sexual creature, and shows a LOT of improvement since the beginning of the show.

On the other hand... <deep sigh> Some days it's just hard to be a Monk/Natalie shipper. And I think that might be one of those days.

Or maybe not -- maybe Natalie's not concerned about Monk obstructing the investigation at all. Maybe she's just...

I think that Gertrude is joking, guys.

Of course, if you all already knew this, never mind. smile.gif

I think the biddest mystery will be, "Where the heck is Zemenia?" Must be a very small country. Population of five, if you count the dog. They recently had a civil war there. Seems that someone misplaced the remote control to the TV and Law and Order was coming on. The sensitive, but beautiful princess of Zemenia ran away and sought refuge in San Francisco where she found work as a model, till her father, who never travels without his personal chef and grandmother tracked her down.

I just have one question- Who's looking after the dog?

QUOTE (Kawasakifan @ Jun 21 2008, 03:58 PM) *
It is interesting to see how people have chosen to reply to my rhetorical question about how Natalie would respond.to her boss's "romantic crush" on a model.

Shippers would see her as being jealous, while other non-MN shippers who admit she "loves" Monk (how can one not since she's said it at least two times in the bad Santa episode) see her as taking an active role in fostering such a relationship.

Tony mentioned one time that there would be tension b/w him and Natalie but this may apply to another episode so the non-shippers may be closer to the truth but the fibes about this crush is that it may not last beyond one episode.

Such brevity would be in keeping with previous scenes where action is heart driven, for they all seem to have a short shelf life span, compressed into one episode.

Finally, I wonder about the model, herself: does she resemble Trudy?

I was wondering a littlebit how much she resembles Trudy, or does she have a different kind of beauty. Also, IS she guilty. Especially if she resembles Trudy, Monk may become a little blinded by her Trudy-ness.

Good question about guilt.

If she is, then it would basically be a replay of the bad girlfriend but if she were innocent and the crush can not continue for some reason (she is spoken for, etc.) then the pathos would be even deeper.

I think...and I'm going to put this in the spoiler because it references the spoiler..

Spoiler:
that she will be innocent, and that their feelings will be real and mutual. But I think Monk will reluctantly break it off when Natalie insists that he needs to for the sake of the investigation. Once she is proved innocent, Monk will try to reinitiate contact, which she will refuse -- being hurt because she was not trusted.

Could Zemen be anywhere near Yemen? Or would they be Zemenis then. Or would it have to be Zemenia for them to be Zemenians?

For old Scarecrow and Mrs. King fans, is it anywhere near Estocia?

I think that Zemen, according to Gertrude

Ok, maybe I should clear up a few things...

Spoiler:
Zemenia, is a made-up war-torn country somewhere in Eastern Europe, according to Monk, they (Zemenia) haven't stopped fighting in over 600 years. They speak russian, or, as the script says : "phony Russian - gibberish "

Leyla, is just a normal woman (not a model or princess) who left Zemenia; she works a the refugee relocation centre. There is no mention of her looking anything like Trudy.

The murder weapon, the hatpin/hairpin, is engraved, that's how the make the Zemenia/Leyla connection.

We also have two cynical and not-so-kind-to Monk detectives; Det. Collins & Det. Rodriguez.
The 2 of them are the ones who feel that Monk is obstructing the case.

They have a mountain pile of evidence against Leyla. Monk still believes she is innocent. They want to indict her.
Natalie informs Monk that they (Collins & Rodriguez) are going to file an official complaint with the D.A. about Monk's obstruction of the case. So he must stop seeing her, he agrees. He "undestands" she's a prime suspect...
He ends up seeing her again. He is attracted to her...

In a very awkward scene, they (Stottlemeyer, Randy...) come to arrest Leyla at her home and...
lo and behold, there's Monk, sans pants in a robe...

I don't want to give it all away...

but, keep reading at your own risk...

she confessess, but... there is more to this... again, I don't want give the whole ending away, but, this isn't going to be like "Mr. Monk & The bad girlfriend"

I know. I know.

But look on the bright side... by finding this out now, we can take our credibility and stretch it a little every day. And by the time we're at the episode, our credibility should be flexible enough that we can stretch it well over our heads -- something very useful in case we need to cover our eyes.

The thing I can't get my mind around is

Spoiler:
why Monk is wearing a robe and no pants. I'm thinking there has to be another reason. He can't move that fast (in my mind at least) if I have any understanding of the character at all. Maybe I don't.

All I know is I'm circling that date on my calendar, and nobody better call me or need anything, because I will be glued to my chair. (But then again, I do that with all new Monk episodes now)

And I have a feeling we are all going to be talking about this one for a long time.

Unless of course Gertrude (hehe... Can we call you Trudy?) is really playing an elaborate game with is -- which I don't think she is. But then again, I thought Joey Heatherton (sp?) did call Leland.

I think there will be an inocent reason for this. Maybe, said person gets caught in the rain.

There has to be. I can't get my mind around it any other way. Unless someone's spiking the Summit Creek. wink.gif

I know.

Don't worry, knowing Monk-

Spoiler:
he probably spilled something on his pants, and she is cleaning them for him.

And hey, I thought Joey Heatherton was someone they made up for the show, but according to Deb, she's real, so either I am just extremely skeptical, or extremely gullible for believing Deb. wink.gif
Spoiler:

I'm also thinking that if she killed someone, it will be in self defense. I mean, a hat pin? Who would commit premeditated murder with a hat pin?! That's the kind of weapon you use when you find yourself in need of some kind of weapon on short notice and take whatever is close at hand, which means crime of passion or self defense. If you planned it, you'd brings something more likely to do the job with less effort on your part, like a gun or a knife. Do you know how hard it would be to kill someone with a hatpin? Or how ridiclously lucky? Besides, I just can't imagine Monk's instincts being so far off the mark that he would be attracted to someone who would kill in cold blood. Someone who could/would kill in self defense or maybe even desperation (like if someone was black mailing her with threats of deportation, and she was so desperate and afraid that she could react without thinking), but not someone who would actually plan a murder or be stupid enough to plan a murder by hatpin.

How exactly could you kill someone with a hatpin? Maybe dip it in poison? But someone who would do that would take the hatpin with them, right? I assume that they found the weapon sticking out of the victim, and putting that with the fact that it's a frickin' hatpin(!) would say to me that it wasn't planned out, or if it was, it was very, very poorly planned out.

The victim is probably also Zemenian, I'm guessing. Someone who knew her before or who knows something about her that she doesn't want to get out.

Edited because I'm a spoiler moron.

Marci and the Mashed Potatoes of Doom!

Sorry, it just reminded me of that silly story we were writing. But if it was that story, then there would be a storage locker and a bunch of suffering muppets nearby. And an eyepatch somewhere.

Speaking of the eyepatch, have you watched "In Plain Sight"? I caught a couple episodes over the weekend -- and lo and behold -- an eyepatch. A movable one, as apparently the guy wearing it didn't need it. I almost died. laugh.gif
