I think there should be a huge case, so huge that it's bigger than their town, so big that it involves L.A. or some other large CA city and their police department. Then what happens is that Shawn has to work with that departments' psychic. Except their psychic is a real one... or at least as real as they get. So now Shawn has to not only fool his usual police department on a bigger stage, but also some other cities' and their psychic.

i was doin some diggin in the WAY back of the psych forum and found this in the closet...it was posted on august 8 of 06...

this is practically word for word psy vs. psy this episode premiered after this post was posted...in enough time for them to write and shoot an episode...

I wonder how long it takes to write and film an episode of Psych!

Don't they do it a year before it is seen?
Bubba_Bridges
Hi Bubba here, I think they do it a few months before they air the episode. Not 100% sure though.
PsyFanPinapplejuice
It would be neat to see an episode fans created...that was one of my thoughts when i created the "Title description game"...But how cool would it be to have a contest and the selected fans episode idea, gets turned into an episode for broadcast.
babyspice
WOW! I really don't think that's a coincidence.
catcow
It is all in the time line. Also the story line in Psy vs psy is not exactly to the other story. (At least to me the story are no that same, and I only see this episode once. So I could be wrong.)
PsychJujuPineapple
That's really weird. Do you think they'd really steal a fan's idea without giving them credit? Cause that is like exactly the same...
Rabbity
I honestly think everyone is over-reacting.

First of all the idea posted is very general, and an obvious logical story to develop. You probably thought of your idea because the characters are so well-developed...there are certain stories I think we could probably all predict with a fair amount of accuracy, because they are natural progressions/situations for the characters that we know & love so well. It's like saying that because I posted a year ago that Shawn's Mom should come back & help on a case, and now she is, that means the Psych writers stole my idea. Or anyone who ever wrote about wanting Shawn & Jules to kiss thinking that the writers stole their idea in Bounty Hunters.

Secondly, the idea posted is different from Psy v Psy.
*The episode didn't involve Shawn fooling another city.
*The posted idea doesn't even mention a romantic angle to the story, which was a big part of the actual episode.
*In the episode, they actually focus more on Shawn trying to figure out how the other psychic is getting her results, rather than on her trying to prove Shawn is a fake. That is the opposite of the posted story idea. The FBI psychic says only one line toward the beginning about proving Shawn to be a fake, but other than that one line, she doesn't say or do even one single other thing to try to discredit him.
*Nobody in this episode is really concerned with whether or not Shawn is really psychic...the other FBI guy doesn't really care, he just seems to think Shawn (and everyone else really) is a mere annoyance. Chief just says that maybe the FBI psychic has a "better feel" for this particular case than Shawn, she never suggests that Shawn is not psychic, or even just that the FBI psychic is a better psychic than Shawn, only that she has better feel for this one case.
*The only similarity I see is that both ideas involve another psychic. Again, that's very generic. There are a lot of fanfics about Shawn seeing Jules on a date with another guy, which actually happened in the speed-dating episode. No one has accused the writers of stealing their idea though, because it's a natural situation to put those characters into, just like having Shawn compete with another psychic.

Thirdly, even if they did read the idea, does anyone really think that posting an idea on a public message board gives you copyrights? Or that they will call you up and say, "Hey, Random Internet Poster, I'd really like to develop that idea, because even though I'm a creative person & a writer by profession, I'm all out of ideas for these amazing characters, so I need your idea. How about we hire you?" Or that they'd risk stealing the idea, even though it is posted & dated on the internet, and just hope no one notices? Or that they'd make the episode without consulting you & just add your name to the credits & send you a check? A lot of writers don't read unsolicited works specifically so they can't be accused of stealing ideas.

Sorry if I started sounding snarky toward the end...at first I just thought it was silly that people thought the writers stole an idea, I mean maybe these people are just a bit naive or uninformed about how the whole story development process works on a major production like Psych. Also, I don't know the ages of most of the people on here...maybe the theft-accusers are very young & don't know how the professional world works, and that networks have legal departments and whatnot that have to approve things.
Then I thought about it more & decided that regardless of the above, it's really an insult to the writers/producers to accuse them of something unethical & unprofessional, and that made me mad.

So, sorry for getting witchy, but I think no reasonable adult person would conclude that the posted idea was stolen for the Psy v Psy episode.

I agree.
Luvtowrite
Good job Rabbity, you had points that I was about to make before I read your post. wink.gif

I also wanted to point out that if you watch the writer's commentary that is posted on this fan site, you will find that the idea for Psy vs. Psy came about after one writer wanted to write about Shawn going to a Psychic convention. I believe it mentions that the writer talked to Steve Franks about it and this idea had been going around for a long time. Steve decided to have it turned into Shawn compeating with just one psychic.

So there ya go! That is how that episode came about, the idea for a Psychic convention, not a vague fan post. *clearly* smile.gif

calm down i didn't imply he stole it i just thought it might've been evidence that they do read the board or it was a cool coincidence for the poster of that particular post i didn't say the writers were theives i admire the writers and i wanna be one of them when i grow up so i have a ton of repect for the work that they do...i hope this doesn't sound rude and i'm sorry if it does cause it wasn't meant to be that...
Thing3
I thought the same thing long before I saw that episode. "Sean meets a real psychic. Wait, there are no real psychics. Sean meets another fake psychic." I even thought it would be cool if they could get Miss Cleo to be on the show.

I seriously doubt they had to read it here.

I wonder if you agree not to sue them over stuff like this in that Long Legal Crap Nobody Reads thing that you have to click on "I Agree" before you post. It sure wouldn't surprise me. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that somehow, their lawyers have that covered.

I don't think it's rude! If we're assuming thath they didn't steal it, then it's a pretty weird coincidence. What are the odds of someone guessing the plot of an episode wayyy before it aired? And you all are saying that the plots are different, but really they're basically the same. Just hypothetically, if the writers did get the idea from the post, they could add and change things while still keeping the same basic idea.
Archieve
The writers might read the boards and it wouldn't surprise me, if they like an idea and play with it.
