Well, I was expecting all these editorials and arguments. This is a soapbox. I can see that people are as confused as I am. What am I supposed to post here? My opinions? My OCD style gripes? Why I like Monk?
Come and check out my post at Open Mic at Monk's Cafe with Tim Boston.
OCD Peace out.

Going back a while Manville was asking us to list items that are available now that make our lives much easier.

One thing most folks havent said is indoor plumming; automobiles; planes; trains;and most important is ATM's!

But I degress...I want to vent...What is up with everyone who has to ride your butt while you are driving...is the world in such a hurry that safety is not that important? This guy was in such a hurry today he almost got hit by another car. Then later on a woman who chose NOT to cross the street to a crosswalk but decided to cross a major intersection with oncoming traffic! She stopped in between lanes and 2 cars almost re-ended each other because she wanted to hurry to get to a gas station on the other side of the street. I just sat there and shook my head. I was worried that she was going to get hit by a car and that I would have to live with that sight in my head forever. I think people have lost their minds!

I need a drink...where are those cashews and robobartender give me a tall TS with 2 cherries!

*sigh*

I know what you mean about drivers, the road leading from my house to work is under construction, down to only 2 lanes and I was on my way to work when a guy on a bicycle was coming toward me which the car behind him just had to pass swervering into my lane forcing me to pull over 2 feet to the left and ride on the curb, a very near collision. He was also driving too fast, don't know about other states/countries but here when a road is under construction the speed limit drops to near 0 and if we are caught going over the speed limit by even 5 miles/hour the fine is doubled. The speed this guy was driving was enough to put the guy in jail plus a hefty speeding ticket along with a ticket for passing on a city street and a ticket for reckless driving...too bad they don't give tickets for 'scaring the hell out of other drivers'.

So as a teacher today was pretty well shot to you know where....

We are now getting the effects from Tropical whatever it is Fay. We had 3 different tornado warnings today. That meant that there was little to no teaching going on. It seemed that everytime we got back into the classroom good, another warning was issued and we had to go back to the hall. I hate those stupid things! It pushed everything including lunch back. I didn't get to eat lunch until around 1:30. Missed the last two classes completely and most of the others were shortened. On top of this it is supposed to rain tomorrow too. Oh the joys of being a teacher...

Oh no, while it was miserable for you I'll bet the kids were either scared to death or loved getting out of class.

When I was in grade school one of the janitors came running through the school yelling at the teachers to get all us kids under our desks, a storm was coming with hurricane force winds. It thundered and lighteninged, the street lights came on and it scared me so bad I was afraid of storms for years, even on days when we had fluffy clouds, if they hid the sun I'd run for cover.

Thankfully I grew out of it before I had kids and didn't pass it on to them.

We don't generally have tornados or hurricane force winds in Buffalo -- very rarely. But one thing I remember from school was air raid drills.

Who is old enough to remember air raid drills? I remember being lined up in rows against the wall, everybody's head tucked under their hands, while the teachers explained this is what we would do if a big bomb went off. There was nothing quite like growing up in an era where people had bomb shelters and expected that we could all easily be obliterated at any moment.

I'm old enough to remember those drills. They didn't scare me as much as the storm thing did. We don't get many storms with those kind of winds, maybe one or two a year, hate it when they come as a blizzard.

Back to shelters, yeah, like those shelters would really protect anybody but people built them. Ever see the movie: "Blast from the Past?" I loved the whole concept of it.

From one teacher to another, how awful and scary! I am soooo sorry about your day. I sympathize with you. I read on the other thread that you did not have a good day and found this one. Looks like we both had bad days for very different reasons...

I did not have a good first day of school today. For one thing, the people who made the new schedule only allowed 30 min for lunch for kinder through 5th grade! Another thing is I do not have a conference/planning period with my entire cluster! There are 4 of us on 3 different conference periods! How can we possibly plan together? Also, my school has yet to hire the needed reading teacher for our cluster; we have a sub right now. This is just 3 things wrong with today. So many more, but I better get off of my soap box before I get really upset again! I need to get ready for tomorrow and bed! Hopefully things will improve soon. Trying to stay positive. "I think I can...I think I can...."

Thanks all for listening to another frustrated teacher! History, we are going to have to keep each other sane somehow!

Oh most of the students absolutely loved it. They will do anything to get out of class. I can't really blame them, I did too when I was there age! The only time some of them acted scared was when the lights blinked. The girls screamed and the "macho" guys just sat there. I think some of them were a little scared as well.

I'll bet the boys were too! 'Course boys can't show it in front of girls, can't be called a sissy boy. I remember fire drills, civil defense drills, anything to get out of class was OK with me but not when they called them in January - January is usually 20 degrees outside and the winds are brisk.

I am sure the boys were scared too, but like you said they couldn't show it. It is okay for girls to scream when the lights go out and stuff. I can't imagine those drills would be fun in January. When I was in school, my junior year, I think, we had a drill that my teacher thought was a fire drill, so we all went outside. We looked around and there was no one else outside. After a few minutes we went back inside. Everyone else was coming back upstairs. It was actually a tornado drill. Good thing it was just a drill, huh? My teacher wasn't exactly the brighest light in the box...

You know what drives me crazy? When women wear little shorts that have great big words plastered across the backside. Why do they do that?? Here I am, walking down the sidewalk, eyes focused on the trees, and the birds, and people's faces, and all of a sudden, BAM! There it is. I don't mean to look, but it just happens. How can you not look? When I see a word, I read it. And then they look at me, and I can't look away quite in time, and they think bad things about me. No! I say, no! I'm not like that! But it's too late, because looking at a girl's rear creates an unforgivable first impression.

Who came up with the idea for catch phrase shorts????
BfloGal
I am home tonight watching my daughter recover from having four wisdom teeth pulled out.

She is on pain meds, chattering non-stop, and is now contemplating the design of fruit. She paused, looking over a pineapple wondering why God made it shaped the way it is. Then she moved on to the kiwi (no-real kiwis). Why put a sweet green fruit into a brown fuzzy skin?

But anyway, she is a total trip.

She told me four times about her IV, and how they took it out when she was trying to get a good look at it. And she made up a new religion -- I'm not sure why.

LOL -- we posted at the same time.

Good advice: Any girl dumb enough to plaster words on her butt and then wonder why you're looking is too dumb for you anyway -- don't worry about the first impressions.

They are just silly girls.

Take on TS and sit down!

By the way, I have been a bit busy lately. I have began my studies and I am at school at day times. I am going to be a librarian (I hope this is the right word). It is my dream profession, and the studies are real interesting! smile.gif
But I donīt have so much time to be here as before... sad.gif But such is life.

I just feel sorry for my little son, because I have to put him to the day-care center, as my other daughter as well. And my oldest dauchter is at school and after that in the day club (?). The girls are all right, they like their day actvity, but my little son cry every morning, when I bring him to the day place. It is a little sad. sad.gif
But the people there say, that he is all right there, he plays , sleeps and eats, so I suppose, that I should not worry. But it feels bad still... sad.gif

Tami
Tami gets up on the soap box ... looks around unsure.gif (Tami's a little uneasy because this might be a little late in posting, but frustration has taken over because she caught up on a lot of old posts in threads) ... takes a deep breath and says:

SHUT THE H#LL UP! All you people who've called anyone a "mindless gusher" or a "sycophant" or "sheep" or any other pejorative that implies that people who watch the show and enjoy it and don't have complaints about it (other than their favorite actor on the show doesn't have enough screen time) are simple-minded peasants complimenting the emperor's clothes!

I love this show! I have enjoyed every minute of every episode!

I'm the luckiest "Monk" fan in the world and have been since the first episode. The writers, producers, cast and crew have created nearly 100 episodes so far that I have enjoyed. They did it, and they have done it, and I am confident they will continue to do it, because they did it all along without my input!

If you haven't enjoyed every minute of every episode for WHATEVER REASON, I'm not going to call you names or criticize you for having an opinion ... SO DON'T YOU DARE CALL ME NAMES OR CRITICIZE ME FOR HAVING MINE!

Tami climbs off the soap box and hopes she doesn't fall on her face.
