No, I drink ice water, and then have to get up 45X a night ...well perhaps that is an exaggeration. I love to sleep with the windows open (undern lots of covers) in the winter.

I keep my house at a cozy 64 degrees at all hours of the day and all days of the week. rofl. I LOVE central air!!

Yep, we gotta be about the same age. I'd keep my house at that temp day and night (well, maybe even colder at night) if I could get away with it. But hubby keeps bumping it back up.

But he's gone again this week, sooooooooo.....,

Crank that air, baby!

(Is it snowing in here?)

OMG, we'd get along so well together. I never turn on the AC unless it is almost 90, the humidity is almost 90 and the fan blowing on me can't dry the sweat off my brow, lol. I can't stand the cold - in winter I wear layers on top of layers, when I go into AC I'm usually cold so take a sweater or long sleeve shirt with me, just in case.

I can sleep in just about any temperature as long as I have a fan blowing directly on my face with no obstruction between us.

I think as we age our circulation isn't quite up to par and we tend to notice the cold easier.

When I clean I use windex for dusting, if the vacuum isn't a hepa filter I can smell the dust and won't use it; I have two vacuums, one for upstairs and one for the first floor, both hepa filter types and before I dust I use the wand attachment to pick up as much loose dust as possible before I wipe anything down, in fact, I do almost all my cleaning with my vacuum. I'm allergic to so many scents I use only non-scented products - if I don't I could wheeze myself into a coma, die and when someone finally came to check on me they'd find me half eaten by my dog....gruesome thought I know but it's honesty at it's best.

I like the windows cracked open in the winter too, but sometimes can't do it if it's snowing or blowing. I NEED it cold to sleep. That's why I have an additional air conditioner in the bedroom (we have central air) and I crank that down to 60 degrees during the summer.

MJ, ever feel like the younger set has been spoiled by AC and gas furnaces?

I, one of the poor people in this world, have to make a decision everyday on how much I can afford to pay the gas & light company before I use AC, extra heat, the stove/oven or even the dryer - making that decision on a daily basis has taught me I can live without many things others believe they just cannot live without.

I feel ya. That is one reason why I don't use the A/C very much - cost. And it kills me in the winter time to have to leave it cool in the house because I would really love to crank up the heat. But I can't afford a huge heating bill so I have to keep the temp down.

We are kindred spirits. rofl. I've had people put their coats on in my apt.

It's a low income apt complex but it's commercially owned and operated so it has a lot of amenities--which is good because the rent's not cheaper than area apts the same size. You just have to fall under a certain annual income level in order to live here. I've lived in housing projects and oh my god--horrible. I've gotten heat stroke once and ended up in the hospital. Seems my circulation is operating a little too well.

I lived without AC for a lot of years. My hubby is from NC, so Buffalo weather doesn't seem warm at all to him. But as I've aged into my 40s, I think I live in one extended hot flash. My grandmother was the same way. Anything above 68, and I start feeling sluggish and stop moving. If he wants the house clean, the temp has to stay down.

Sleeping, I have to be cuddled under the covers, so I need it even colder. Otherwise I have terrible insomnia.

We tend to keep the air on most of the time in the summer...I worry too much about the dog gettiing overheated while we are not home so we keep the temp around 74. At night I have a fan going to keep the temp in the bedroom cooler...mostly to drown out my husband snoring.. tongue.gif

I cant think of not using a cleaner in my house..I keep wipes for quick cleaning..Toilet cleaner...Windex...pledge...I use diapers to dust everything..keeps the lint down..I have 2 vaccums one upstairs one down..and a dirt devil for the stairs...that is like so weird..so unMonkish... tongue.gif

Cheers everyone! I'm back in Monktown. Give me a double synthynol with a lemon twist. And pass the peanuts!

I have a list of things to say because I was not able to check the board for more than a minute last week.

In random order:

Yvette, you are so funny, you made me wet my pants!!!

Monkchik - I am so glad everybody cheered you up! You're terrific in my book.

Bflogal - can we do a reprise of the tapdance with "On the Good Ship Lollipop"? I just love tapdancing. I am sorry I missed it.

M. - I just don't know what to say (shakes head, speechless) Thanks for the synthynol idea.

MJ - Don't feel you have to appologize for saying "NO" to people. Darn workplace moochers. They are everywhere - like an epidemic!

Keeslady - I've been saying I have a broken thermostat for a while now. I just like it the way I like it - sometimes cold, sometimes warm. I'm serendipitous. It adds to my charm.

Lovethat Monk and Michele: HI!!!! (waves wildly and then runs up and hugs)

About computer viruses. I ran some extra scans and it seems to be fine now. I gave it two tylenol and sent it to bed early and I bet that helped, too.

History - Guess what they have in Leavenworth! Yep - you guessed - the pieces of Checkpoint Charlie that were given to Regan when the Berlin wall came down. Who knew? Ft. Leavenworth is a very historical area. There is lots to explore.

Crystal- What is the 4th of July challenge? Which thread is it on? I missed it.

Well, its good to be back with the old gang. You're looking good - all of you.

Signing off from Kansas this time.

Welcome back M1! Make sure all those wayward sons pay attention so they dont end up dust in the wind...

Okay, I only knew two Kansas songs and so the joke could only go so far, rught?

<shrug>

Welcome Back!

...

What's that sound?

It's getting louder...

Hear it?

...

listen!

Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.

Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.

Well some of the names have changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)

Yeah we tease quite a lot cause we've got ya on the spot, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.

...

See, I told you I heard something. Harumph!

Yes, welcome back -- of course we can do more tap dancing -- After the "Good Ship Lollipop" we can have some "Animal Crackers in my Soup"

You know, the ability to name more than one Shirley Temple song is rather scary. blink.gif

She's too young. Get me an Angelina Jolie.

Okay! I've come to vent! I hate spoliers!

Almost every day it seems someone discovers a new title and plot summary for an upcoming episode, and while I can understand the drive, it's not for me.

I like to be excited, like a little kid, when I see something for the first time. I dont want to know who and what and where - it takes away from the impact of the show, you know?

And I think that a lot of people who soak up every little detail before hand are more critical and enjoy the show less in many cases.

I still like hearing all that stuff, but I enjoy it after the fact. When the show has had a chance to give me that 'final form' presentation, you know?

I used to have this friend who turned evil, started sleeping with my girl and got me fired from my job (aftere I got him hired on at the same place) - but one of his problems was he was dissappointed in everything as like a default. "Oh, the x-men movie was no good. They hardly did anything they..." Well when you've read my 30 year backlog of x-men comics of course two hours isnt going to compare, right?

But it was the same with everything that he knew anything about. He let his opinion cloud the experience. He didnt enjoy, he judged.

So, I for one an staying out of the spoiler threads until after the shows air.

...

So I guess my complaint is... It can get pretty lonely out here when you're all in spoiler land... <sniff, sniff>

Once the season starts, I will probably hate spoilers. Right now I can't help myself -- I'm like a little child shaking the Christmas boxes and trying to peel back the tape. I will most likely regret it later. Stick to your guns, Mandeville, and enjoy the unspoiled wonder that will be Monk for you.

Spoiler land isn't for me either. Your friend sounds like a lot of friends I've had--liked to look as though they knew everything before everyone else and was always critical, just so everyone would think they have these really high standards. Your run of the mill waterhead.

As to the guy who took your girlfriend and cost you your job....I can show you how to cut a brake line. Seriously, if he can get to your girlfriend, then he did you a favor--that's not a girlfriend worth keeping. Hope the job thing was a learning experience for you because it's happened to me. I don't try to get friends jobs anymore. Leave the synthehol behind the bar and go have a beer.

I too hate spoilers and have tried to stay away from the spoiler threads here. Although I haven't been very successful. I remember right when Phantom Menace was coming out and my brother says "hey you know Qui-Gon Jinn dies right?" I said some not-so-kind words to him.

Spoilers are no fun. I, too, like to be suprised when the show comes on.

It's like, last week when my friend and I went to see Get Smart. She already saw the movie two times, but she promised she wouldn't tell me what happened. Then, right there in the first scene she says "He's the bad guy, but you don't know it 'til the end." I dropped my Reese's Pieces on the floor and gave her a sarcastic "Thaaanks." dry.gif I wasn't able to enjoy the movie either because she kept leaning over saying "Oh, this parts funny!", "This parts funny too!", "This part is REALLY funny.", "You got to watch this next part, it's hilarious!" It was so annoying. I saw it a second time with my mum and I actually thought it was funnier the second time because my friend wasn't there talking the whole time. dry.gif

Well, there's my two cents of complainin'. wink.gif If there was a club for "Moaners and Groaners" I would definantly be in the council. lol

Oooooo, I hate being gone a few days, reading old posts, and you've all moved on from a subject I wanted to comment on. Not your fault, mine.....Carry On.

The problem I find with the whole hot/cold thing was that when I was thinner, I was freezing all the time. Now that I'm heavier, I'm too warm. Of course, being menopausal at the same time of the weight gain didn't help.
And, now one of the meds I take for Bipolar gives me Hot Flashes and Night Sweats as side effects. Soooooo, I'll be sorta menopausal the rest of my life. I was whining about it at a family get-together, and daughters, s-i-l and grands all voted on me taking the meds as opposed to not. Easy for them to say when they aren't the ones playing the blanket-on-blanket-off game all night. laugh.gif
Hubby keeps the thermostat at 66 degrees in winter----it's easier for me to put on more layers of clothes than for him to cool off without opening windows and hearing me moan and complain.

Ok, the bald-headed old fart just called me on my cell and griped for me to "Get off the Monk board and get back here." As they're waiting for my return to go to DQ, I won't fuss about it. laugh.gif

Except for occasionally seeing a movie with my son, I always go alone--for exactly that reason. I go with a friend and they can't fight the urge to be "social" while the movie's on. I miss half the movie. "Yeah, we're hanging out but feel free to shut the hell up while the lights are down. Eat your popcorn and shut your cake hole." lol. I should probably not say that out loud, huh? At least, not in those exact words. rofl.

Boy can I agree with that statement, Mandeville. I hate spoilers, I hate weaving my way around all the threads and finding nothing to post on. I like the excitement of 'not knowing' who, what, when. After the episode, then I get all excited. Spoilers are like knowing someone is throwing you a surprise party, or knowing what's under the Christmas tree, it takes all the fun out of the anticipation.

While I'm at it, I'm not a fan of 'shipping' or fanfic either. The few fanfics I've read were disasters of the worst kind. I'm not saying everyone who writes fanfics write bad fanfics, what I'm saying is most of the ones I've read have been the product of 'wishful thinking' and were not true to the series so were not what I'd call 'good fanfic.' The Monk books are examples of 'good fanfic.'

So I'll vent alittle more. Today is 81 with no humidity and a nice breeze, all around me I hear AC running, everyone is sitting in their AC condos, bitching about the cost of gas. Well, duh, turn off the AC and quit being a fuel glutton, reduce your carbon footprint, let some of the fresh outdoors in and stop breathing in all that indoor recycled air. Stop slapping Mother Nature in the face. We have fires in CA, the midwest is flooded, our food supply is dwindling and with so much raw sewage flooding the farm lands and being sucked up through the roots of the crops how much of the food that will survive will be edible? The Earth is trying to cleanse itself, replenish itself and fix what has been broken because we, its inhabitants, are sucking it dry.

Stepping off soapbox and leaving the corner now - next?
adrianna10
I donīt care about the spoilers so much either. I have tried to avoid them. I want to be surprised. I am surprised that there are so many spoilers. Soon you will see the real stuff... I donīt even want to see clips from the episodes which I have not seen yet. The videos or pics are the worst, because they leave the real image in your brain. Speculations can be wrong, the pics are from what is happening.

I can well go to movies just by myself. Of course it can be fun to share the experience, but sitting in the dark and watching movie is not very social situation. Only in some special occasion it could be memorable, when you have dates or you can go with someone important, as your child or a spouse
or a close friend. But I donīt need just company to cinema, just because that I donīt have to sit alone.

Personally, I love spoilers, and I also love surprises. I don't necessarily like to be surprised by spoilers, tho. And YAY, it's July! So, what is everyone doing for the fourth? I don't really have any plans. My family is in Salem and most of my freinds are "work friends" at the moment. I'll be all by my lonesome...maybe writing fanfic, until the Firework show.
adrianna10
I just wonder, when I will see season seven. Maybe at the winter the canal+ will send it. Now it is rerunning season six...
you will soon talking just about s. seven... the real spoilers for us from other places. But äh, I donīt want be dull. I am just tired.

Sometimes I like spoilers and sometimes not...It's nice when you go to the movies and they give you all the previews of stuff coming out later..This way I can figure out which movies are worth going to. I havent seen any thing since Indiana Jones 4..wanting to go see Get Smart, Hancock, not too sure on KungFu Panda..

I plan on going to visit my family for the 4th..going to the parade and a cookout..But what I am excited about is going to see a Cirque de Soiel show on Sunday! Kooza is getting great reviews!

<lovethatmonk dances around the room...happy and content that Kooza is coming up>

Hope to a great time...next up... biggrin.gif

My son saw Kung Fu Panda and said it was a laugh riot. Keep in mind, he's 20 years old and male. rofl.

I am doing absolutely nothing special for the fourth. We have a dog that hates loud noises and so I'll be in charge of his medication that day. I'm sure we'll have hot dogs or something, but it's not a real celebration in our house. Most things arent anymore. It yused to be that my family was much larger and every occasion was marked with a 'bang'. But my grandmother was tired of that and todays little parties cant compare to the friendly, fun filled bashes she used to have when ... well when everyone was alive and moral.

Intead we'll spoil the dogs and cats and pretend they're celebrating the day, and she'll spend her time watching them play and scamper.

It's not much but it's the best I can do.

Actually it is the best you can do. It's better when it's small and quiet, and there's just the couple people who actually love and appreciate you. More people always means more noise and more drama. It's just me and my son for this 4th. That's just how I want it.

My dog is not big on loud noises either...that is why we are visiting family...they live out in the country so dont have to listen to the big booms!

M - My husband showed me a weird thing on a news blog...some guy who was drunk threw a package of polish sausages at his mother and she called the cops...I could just imagine the cops writing out that complaint...it happen down by Daytona Beach...in Deland

If it had killed her would she have become the corpus delicatessen?

Yeah, Florida has it's problemed peoples, that's for sure. I read the local news online down here and it's always something crazy.

...

In fact, I'll go sa far as to say that Florida is what happens when 75% of all the people involved play hte drama card all at once.

Yep, about right.

One even weirder than that was a 74 year old woman drove into a stop in shop..and she wanted to buy beer while she was there! I would agree that strange things happen all over the place..some places just get weirder folks more than others... laugh.gif

Sorry,M, but I did think of you when I heard that little item on the news about the man with the sausage.

Ok, I don't usually drink, but today I need a large Tequila Sunrise, and keep 'em coming.

First off---oldest daughter called at 4:30....Woke us up to tell us that the fireworks warehouse right across the street from her home is on fire---some dumb a** not too careful where he aimed his fireworks---and at the very least her home is filled with smoke. Probably water damage, too, as the firemen are hosing down houses to keep them from going up in flames. She had all the windows open, and when the cops came to evacuate them, wouldn't let her close windows. And, she has no renter's insurance, so they are in big trouble. At least they all got out unharmed. Except for new Baby Kitty.

Then, while I was waiting up for more news from her, found out hubby is having an emotional affair with a woman he works with whom I thought was a friend to me. This isn't the first time he's done this and ripped my heart out and stomped on it, but it will be the last.

So, set 'em up, Joe, and don't listen to me telling you not to.

<M saddles up to the bar>

Want me to put him on my hunting permit list?

Sorry, but even the funniest lines look lame in certain lights, and the lame light that's shining in your face is something no one deserves.

...

We can add her too, if it helps at all.

Sorry you've got this kind of hassle in your life Meme. But be smart and weigh your options before you do anything. Emotion makes us impulsive. And maybe your reply/revenge should be metered out slowly. Just a thought.

I hope you feel better soon though.

Peace,

I don't usually like to recommend drinking as a way to mend troubles, but in your case Meme, I definitely make an exception. Let's keep an open tab. I'll get my credit card. sad.gif

Sorry about that, Meme. sad.gif What sort of dumba** would set fire to the firework warehouse, especially if there are people living near it! And no insurance. And baby kitty was hurt? sad.gif sad.gif

Hopefully, the police are trying to do something to find that stupid guy who did that.

And I'm sorry about your husband too. That has to be really rough. sad.gif Drink up!

------------

Sorry, I know now may not be the best time for this, but I'm a tad bit disappointed. We were going to go see our family that lives in Ohio for fourth of July weekend. Which I was really looking forward too because I love my cousins, aunt and uncles and grandma that live there. Turns out, they're all out of town. And then, the week after that weekend I start Summer School. *barfs* Okay, so what I scored a few points lower in math than the state average? It was just like five points lower!! And I'm ABOVE average in English. Do I need summer school? I think not.
