Ooooh, Gopher! (((Swoons)))

I actually met Fred Grandy (i.e. Gopher) when he was a congressman. And I admitted to him that Gopher was my first crush. My mother was horrified that I admitted that to him. She has no sense of humor. He took it very well.

lol. Who would your mom prefer if a congressman wasnt a good enough first crush? And so what if he wasnt a congressman then? You had good taste, right? He was moving up in the world.

<shakes head> I just dont get people sometimes. lol.

And if Fred had any sense at all he'd have been flattered silly. I know I would have been.

She just couldn't believe I had the audacity to admit that to his face. I don't see the problem either. He was very nice and flattered that I told him that. I have a feeling I wasn't the only girl who had a crush on Gopher. smile.gif

My first crush was on Mr. Rogers. I mean it. I told everyone that when I grew up I was going to marry Mr. Rogers.

It could explain all those cardigans in my husband's closet.

I dont know if anyone else has heard this - But someone once told me Mr. Rogers was a sniper in the military with a list of 'accomplished' missions as long as your arm.

Cant say if it's true or not, but in case you dont want to talk about that - my first crush was on Jubilee of the X-Men. The Animated series in the 80s. It started me collecting comics and now my collection fills a closet. But there you go - cartoon.

Add that to snipers and puppets.

...

Wow. Cartoon doesnt sound near as bad when you frame it with snipers and puppets, now does it?

Sadly, cartoons and puppets are a lot safer than a lot of the people out there. Personally, I was all hooked on Ultraman!

Mr. Rogers (Mr. Fred McFeely Rogers) was not a Marine sniper and he wasn't a Navy seal either. Both of these are urban myths.

He was, however, an ordained minister, which considering my hubby is a pastor is a kind of interesting coincidence, isn't it? laugh.gif

Mr. Rogers represented something to me that I didn't have early in my life -- a positive male role model and stability. We need more people like him.

Reminds me of when oldest daughter and I went with a couple of friends to see Montgomery Gentry in concert. We were hanging around in back of the arena, because the tour buses were there---and Eddie Montgomery actually came out and spent quite a long time autographing papers, and posing for pics with the 25 or so of us who were out there. My daughter was standing in front of me, and when Eddie talked to her, she turned around to me with this absolutely stunned look on her face. While autographing her shirt, he, um, well, er---held himself up through the courtesy of her rather large front end. I'm talking Triple-Z size, folks. She said to me "Get up there, Mom, for your autograph--you're safe." laugh.gif

Chekov and Lebeau (sp?) Skippy and Randy? -- you must like the boyish type. We'll make note the next time we try to ship you with someone. wink.gif

Now that I've teased you a little, I'll give you some return ammunition. In Star Trek I crushed on... Spock. Can you believe that? Spock and Monk? I think I might have this thing for genius men who are or seem incapable of love. Come to think of it, my cardigan-wearing, preacher husband is really smart. Maybe some kind of hybrid of Mr. Rogers and Spock? No pointy ears though. (And although also quite Monkish in some ways, happily quite capable of love smile.gif )

Now (since I want to get all this silliness in one post) in Happy Days the Fonz actually scared me. I'd have to go for Richie.

Of course none of this explains my crushes on Pierce Brosnan or Bruce Boxleitner. But I guess those weren't in my formative years.

Okay girls of the seventies: Shaun Cassidy or Parker Stevenson?

I went for Parker.

Actually Shaun and Parker were the two who played in the Hardy Boys from the late '70s. Shaun was the younger brother. No bad boys there. LOL.

Anyone remember Riptide? 3 guys lived on a boat with a robot? One had a helicopter, one had a boat and one had... well, the robot. But they could never seem to get thier laundry done. First show to feature a 'nerd' as an important part of the team. Now a days you cant have a team without a couple of smart folks, you know?

Guess what? They are my favorites also. I have thought to be a bit weird with having heroes like mr Spock and mr Monk. Then I noticed, that they a lot of in common. Besides what you said, they both are outsiders, or at least feel themselves as outsiders, and they have very high moral. They both have their own little quircks. After all, they are handsome... not bad heroes at all, I think.

Ah, I'm an old Trekkie too. And when you consider how William Shatner turned out, maybe Spock wasn't such a bad choice after all.

I liked William Shatner in Star Trek, but I couldn't stand him in anything after that. He turns my stomach now. I think I heard him sing once -- that could be part of it.

Well, Miss Meme, I had the exact same Dale Evans outfit...and they let me have the gun too...but I was really a Gene Autry fan. I can't remember if I had a crush on any of the coyboys...I think it was Trigger or Silver...I never had a good grasp on reality.

Oh, no. I wanted to be Nancy Drew and get next to Parker Stevenson. They did have that hug thing in Transylvania. And wasn't there more in the Hollywood episode?

Yes, I was a Frank and Nancy 'shipper -- long before that term existed.

A whole new generation is shipping them now on the computer games. I just asked my daughter who she liked, and she said "Frank and Nancy, so I could have Joe" (On the computer games I have to agree-- Joe is cuter, and the voice actor sounds like Shawn Cassidy.)
