I would like for the show to do well since mostly because everyone involved on the show has worked so hard to put this out from the strike. But a part of me also doesn't want it to do any better than it has due to mass popularity. It lose's it's effect on the whole when it becomes out of control and a mass show. Too well known and it becomes overkill.
I know what you mean -- I feared this too -- but I can't see it getting as out-of-hand as some things. It's not Baywatch -- tons more creativity and intelligence, not just about the bods (i.e. I'm not envisioning Gabrielle Anwar in Playboy). It's not going to create teen hysteria like The Hills. I doubt we'll see controversy amongst the cast either because they're all older and wiser.
I seriously doubt it'll go to JD's head too. I'm pretty sure from all that's posted about JD on the web that his life has been hard enough that he's too smart/wise to go Hollywood on us (raised by single working mom with two brothers, one brother killed as teen, worked multiple jobs in college, and way too much rejection as an actor I'm sure). He's actually tried to explain more than once that his life isn't all that glamorous, so he gets it. And, the interviewers all say how considerate or down-to-earth he is.
All of the above is why I'm still on this board. I'm a really good judge of character and wouldn't waste my time here if I had even an inkling that the people involved weren't deserving of the attention.
Another positive if it becomes more popular is more roles during and after for our beloved castmembers!
I hope this eases your worries. My intention is too soothe!
