Full Version: The Irony of a Monk Fan of A Week & A Monk Message Board
USA Network Forums > USA Network Originals > Monk
shadowbox000
I just think that it is ironic that a lonewolf like Monk has a message board & fans. Real life Monk-types do not post messages & are under-appreciated geniuses. Probably, a more realistic Monk fan of the week are the fans who do not post, but keep to themselves like Monk would. I cannot imagine Monk posting on the message boards. Just a thought.

I never thought of that. I think you're right. And speaking of a monk fan of the week, that one chick must really be good because she's been the fan of the week since I started posting in here. rofl.

Thank you. It was just a spur of the moment posting idea. I was a tad afraid that the posting would inspire uncomfortable, negative responses. It is a relief, that at least yours, isn't.

I reckon I would have to agree as well. Never thought of that.

I have wanted to be Monk fan of the week, for a long, long time. I just haven`t put it into words yet. I will try for this season.

I guess I agree. But, then again, I also can't picture Monk coming on the internet to submit himself as fan of the week. huh.gif

I agree with that one...and how do you become a Fan of the Week...I am a fan every day and I never have been picked! mad.gif

Guess I will have to kill someone to get acknowledged...right now I want to kill my dog...she is demanding attention! Guess she is jealous of you guys! laugh.gif

What is more ironic is that even though mr. monk claimes he has no friends there is a board full of them that would love to shake his head and be his friend..(if he was actually real lol)

Wow!! I had not thought about that. I think you are so right about this. I think Monk would never sign on to his message board, or be the fan of the week. I have wanted to be fan or the week for a while, but never sent in the application thing, I don't really know what to say. The fan of the week has been the same girl since I signed on here.

I have to agree, a real life MONK wouldn't have a message board and wouldn't post on it, so having this mythical MONK and this board makes for a great way to express how we feel about MONK.

No lawn darts coming from this quarter - most of us just toss around a Nerf ball or two, lol.

What a interesting thought. It is true, we don´t know real life mr monks. But, but... Mr Monk could be pleased, if he only knew, how many here love him. And maybe a bit embarrassed, too. Or a lot...

This board exictence proves, that the main character touches us universally, by many ways and deeply. Everybody finds something familiar from the character. The show has made to entertainment, but it has grown out of this function. (Of course it is also yet entertainment.) Mr Monk from Monkland maybe wouldn´t write here, but TS from the real world could be pleased because of the board.

I think it would be awesome if Tony stopped by for a little while. Although, I realize he is probably way to busy and I am just dreaming. IF he did stop by, I think he would be interested in what people have to say about the show and his acting.

That would be awesome but I can say with every degree of certainty, it would never happen. It's more likely you'd see Ted stop by and he won't be stopping by either. rofl. I agree Tony would be interested in what people say about the show and his acting, particularly if the comments are tempered with honesty and objectivity. I personally have Tony's acting in league with my all time favorite actor, Jimmy Cagney. I'm not dazzled by every movie he's been in or every part he's played, but his skill is consistent from role to role. I never followed his career before Monk but I do now, and I'm still playing catch up with his movies. Speaking on his acting alone, he's pretty damn stellar.

Lawn dart alert: Quite the contrary: If Monk ever recovers from his first foray into cyberspace (Mr. Monk and the Really, Really Dead Man) and he became aware that he had a fan base (other than crazy Marcy who has thrown him over for F. Murray Abraham), it is my belief he would be fascinated! He'd be hypnotically drawn to investigate the comments! He's as much in need of an ego boost as any of us! He's been indignant, to say the least, of the publicity undeserving people have received of their accomplishments (Mr. Monk and the Other Detective, Mr.Monk and -- I forget, the Human Fly?). When people talk about what a genius he is, he behaves in a self deprecating manner but inwardly he believes he deserves the praise and he is proud. I believe he would secretly go to the boards and look and he might even anonymously post a comment! It's okay to disagree with me! blink.gif

An interesting line of speculation going on here. Let's apply some logic. If Monk were a real person, and he were to find out about this board, I think he would anonymously log on. (If people were talking about you, wouldn't you want to know what they were saying?)

But I also suspect he would think we were all as crazy as Marci Maven.

My only question is, would he be right?

We know he is.

In addition....

Tony Shalhoub is a real person. He knows about this message board. He knows people are talking about him. (If people were talking about you, wouldn't you want to know what they were saying?)

I suspect he has read this board anonymously more than once. I bet they all have (cast, crew, writers) - I doubt they live on here like some of us do, but I bet they've all been here.

But I also suspect he (and they) too would think we were all as crazy as Marci Maven.

And if I were him (them), I'd be a little leary of talking to us too.

I'll go a little farther -- where do you think they got the idea for the character of Marci? blink.gif Think about it.

These are very good points. I am sure Tony and all the rest of the cast have signed on here anonymously to see what we have said and are saying about them. I also think it is a good point that you bring out about some us helping to form the character of Marci Maven. I know I would be a little leary about a message board about me and my show, if I were an actor or actress. At the same time I would want to know what my fans were saying about me.

My first instinct was to hope sincerely that none of the cast or crew would read all our posts. Since I've been here we have discussed: (and this is a veeeeeery small sample)
The merits of making/eating chocolate truffles; stale or unstale PB&J sammiches; one of our Bus riders swimming to Japan to meet another Bus rider; catching Fievel in a mousetrap and watching his eyes squish out; various members' Action Figures, and how they'd be dressed and what accessories would accompany them; a hilarious almost R-rated day with Monk and the cast; the merits of kiwis and how gently and often they need squeezing; we've sung campfire songs while on and off the Bus; we started turkey bowling, jello wrestling and cheese rolling; we heard some members' favorite ghost stories, and where the incident that inspired them took place....

Most of those topics in one way or another had something to do with the show, or at least they started out to, but I kinda feel that maybe TS and the others should refrain from reading some of those threads. They would know for certain that we are all Marci, and they'd run screaming from the room. laugh.gif

Yes, and I´m sure, that somebody here said, that he/she has heard Tony Shalhoub really reads our board. That wasn´t under this topic, but somewhere, anyhow. I remembered it and thougt that ´wow!´
But isn´t it just natural, after all. They are human beings!

Just recall, how mr Monk was pleased in Paints his Masterpiece, when the villian praised him as a great artist and wanted to buy all his paintings. He was so pleased that didn´t suspect anything. I suppose he needs recognition as anybody else, not only his paintings, but his detective work, at least occasionally. Anyhow, he is brilliant at his work, he knows that. And maybe he needs some assurance, that he is not alone with his work. At the end of The Astronaut Julie admitted him that the whole class are were sorry what happened, how they behaved badly and how wrong they have been. Julie gave him the medal and mr Monk was The Greatest Hero. Wasn´t he really pleased? I´ll hope that someday he´ll get some a really big recognition.

I know how you feel...even as a Newbie/Old Hand (which only means I talk alot) I've said a few things that I would blush to know were read by the people they were about. Was it me who first said that TS looked 'hot' in his reading glasses? And when it gets late at night, or I'm on cold medication, or my hubby is out of town, I get totally out of hand -- but it's so fun.

I really didn't know that Stanley Kamel was on the board when I first posted that he had great eyes and I had a little crush on him in the '80's. Imagine my surprise (and embarrassment) when he posted a few frames later on the same thread.

And I didn't know that L-e Go-db-rg (I think he searches for his name, hehe) was on the board when I first complained of his facination for the female breast and my issues with Natalie's voice. (Not that I don't like the books, 'cause I do.) But we discuss anything and everything Monk here.

There have been a few things that I posted that I kind of wished I hadn't, and even a couple of things I've thought of going back and deleting -- but then again -- I'm a big girl. What I have said, I said. I might as well own up to it.

But then again, the anonymous nature of the internet makes that all the more easy to live with, doesn't it? laugh.gif

Embrace the inner Marci...
