I wonder if the the show is going to be regularly narrarated by Mary or if that was only for the pilot episode?

Sounds good...will be watching this one! biggrin.gif

Spoiler:
Okay, that punching between Marshall and Mary was hilarious.

This is the first time I watched this show and I have to say it is pretty good...And wasn't the male marshall (the one with the same PJ's as the boy) a guest star on SVU???

Yeah, I thought that was where I recognized him from.

That was a pretty good episode tonight.

Really good episode tonight--I especially liked the ending smile.gif

Okay who is the actor that plays the boy's father Vernon McRoy? He used to ply on a sci fi? series a few years ago, but I can't pin a name to him and nobody seems to have listed the actor's name on three In Plain sight websites I've looked at so far!

Anyone have a clue?

Think his name is spelled Vincent Vincestra. He was on the sci-fi show, Prey.

I really loved this episode! How the boy fleeced the marshall out of their money, Mary's mom and sister going over her sales pitch (Ding Dong! Avon calling!), the dog getting into the make-up, and Marshall in his pj pants: all very funny! I loved the story, too, and the ending was great. A really good episode.

I’m still “iffy” about the show, BUT will be back for the next episode. I’m not hooked, but I am enjoying it, so I can only commit myself one week at a time.

So far, I like the main characters. (Although if I were Mary and lived with Patsy and Edina), I would be afraid to come home nights.) That aside, I also think that the quality of the case(s) and how the wit-of-the-week scenario plays out probably will keep folks curious and coming back. The episode this week was good, and maybe future episodes will be just as good or better.

Loved the “reality check” courtroom portion of the episode where the dad got custody of the son. It’s scary when what’s right and what’s legal don’t always connect.

I liked this episode much better than the first one! Mary was much more likeable to me in this episode. I have no problem with a woman kicking butt (as I tend to be a little aggressive myself biggrin.gif ) but in the first episode she was a little over the top. I like the interaction between the characters, especially the punching scene, that's was pretty funny.
ValleyOfTheShadow
Marshall is hilarious. He just has this straight face when he is doing something that makes it even more funny.

I enjoy how he tries to cool Mary's mood. He knows what makes her tick. They matched them good.

Ah....this episode brought us the softer side of Mary, the tougher side of Marshall, and a little look into the comradery between the two!! I really like this show!!!

Now, I haven't quite taken a liking to Jinx or Brandy. They annoy me at the moment. Maybe they will grow on me as the season progresses!!!

That actor is Vincent Ventresca. He was the lead character in the Sci Fi Channel series "The Invisible Man" (season one is now available on DVD). Paul Ben-Victor played his partner, Bobby Hobbes. It was awesome seeing them together again on the same show, but I wish they had more screen time together. Those two together are quite the team and, unfortunately, the episode didn't show the remarkable chemistry that they had in "The Invisible Man."

A couple of good points here. What's right and what's legal oftentime don't match and I liked that IPS was willing to take a chance and award custody to daddy no matter how much of a louse he was. I didn't think about the bomb as being a ruse to flush the boy out of a known exit and into an assassin's sights. Most shows would have used the same ruse to initiate a chase and grab for the child.

A couple things that didn't work so well for me. Leo/Loni seemed to adjust implausibly fast to his new family IMO. I've known children in foster care who have witnessed traumatic events. There are usually more issues than nightmares to contend with. Also I never got the impression that he had a gun in the scene of his mother's death. Perhaps this detail was just a little too murky?

I liked the humor of Mary and Marshall but I think momma trailer trash and sleazy sister are going to wear thin very fast. The poolside scene following the night of sexual silliness was funny but could be easily overdone.

Agreed. The bit with the matching pajamas was funny in part because he made it such a non-issue.

They are pretty much ugly wallpaper in these first shows. I'm interested in findind out if their family relationship was always tense or did Daddy's leaving make them so difficult.

I especially can't stand the sister. She just looks and sounds sleazy. That scene with her in the car on the phone, so tacky. Nothing amusing about her or a character you love to hate. I hope they send her off.

Yeah, Marshall is starting to grow on me a lot more. He's pretty amusing.

I also thought the kids adjustment was pretty quick. Both in this episode and the first, I found the scenes kind of choppy and zipping by sometime before I had “taken it all in”.

But, then, someone in a conversation surrounding the custody battle mentioned that Dad had plead-bargained and served 18 months. Before that, if the time-lapse between his placement with the family and Dad showing up was acknowledged/mentioned/shown, I missed it. (The kid was playing with a baby. Think, maybe we were supposed to notice that he had been there long enough for the family to have another child? —too subtle )

But, I figure with 18 months of love and happiness, it's doable—he could adjust. Kids seem to recover in reversed dog-years.

The mother-shooting scene never showed who was holding the gun. We expected it to be one of the “bad guys”, so that’s what we “saw”.

I liked this episode even more than the first one. The punching scene was hilarious. I have to admit, though that I had to watch it again last night. Sunday night I was so busy reading and posting on the Criminal Intent board that I couldn't focus on this show and missed a lot. I will definately have to record them to make sure I catch everything!

I loved this episode more than the pilot. I loved the punching scene! Too funny!

I am not a fan of the mom and sister but I love that Mary tries to lay down the law! I just wonder if her mom came to live with her after her dad split or that Mary just cant bear the thought to leave her mom by herself...just a thought. dry.gif

It was cute that the kid got protective of the adoptive sister...I just cant believe that Mary talked this guy to give up his son...I'm glad he still can be his dad after all.

Since no one has started an “Off Topic…” and I don’t know how, I just want to tell anticrime14 how much I like your “Theodore Roosevelt Signature”.

NOTE TO OTHER POSTERS:--Don’t bother explaining to me how….

OK, then how about if I do it for you? I think Off Topic is always a handy thread to have around.
EDRN
In this episode the main character leaves two guns lying on a bed next to a troubled 10 year old; then she leaves the room and shuts the door behind her. Perhaps the guns were unloaded, but this is not explicitly shown. Loaded or not, this is highly irresponsible and a poorly written scene to elicit the surprise detail about the boy shooting his mother. Does anyone actually think that a U.S. Marshall would have a show and tell about her weapons with a child, much less leave the weapons in the room with an unattended child? I thought Mary was supposed to be the responsible one in her family. Isn't she supposed to be protecting the child? Hoosier writer?

Hey, I just thought of a title for my above comment: CHILD ENDANGERMENT IN PLAIN SIGHT
What do you think? It has a ring to it. The only problem is I really don't think the issue's funny.

Oh wow, I didn't see that. I was doing something else and didn't give it my full attention so I missed some things. I'll have to watch it again. But I agree that is a big boo-boo for the writers (and director and actor and anyone else who was around for the filming of this scene). And definately not funny.

I think Mary, Marshall, and Stan are real in their roles. Mary shows there is a caring side to her besides her tough girl all about business. I enjoy the chemistry between Mary/Marshall, which could be more than friends down the road.
