Threads have looked at Trudy and Monk from different angles, her death, who might have done it, what songs symbolize their love among others but I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on how Monk might have been affected by her death. If you think it did, what might have changed? Was it a complete transformation or simply an intensification of pre-existing phobias?

Monk has always been Monkish. Ambrose, has his own quirks and so did their Mom. Monk was able to function, none the less. When he fell in love with, and married Trudy, it was the happiest time of his life. She made him laugh, and he functioned very well as a detective. When Trudy died, Monk had a total breakdown, and could no longer function in a normal way. That is when his OCD and fears became so bad that he couldn`t leave his house. Also, he could no longer be on the force. I think he picked up a lot of new fears after the murder.
