I just got the magnificent book, Best in Show, and I was wondering whether or not she was still alive.

She wrote many great breed books including a few I own on Poodles and German Shepherds.

Thanks everyone

I'm not sure Les, I looked around but couldn't find anything. Sorry.

You are right, Les, Anna Katharine was a wonderful judge and a terrific author of many fine books and articles on dogs. Unfortunately, she is no longer with us.

She was an amazing lady ... and still is, for those of us who knew her and remember her with fondness.

Les,
I know she wrote another one on Boxers that is also Excellent, that
you might look for as well.
She was VERY knowledgable and, I thought, a good writer. She also
wrote for some dog magazines through the years. You might see if you
can find some back issues of Show Site, in which she had a regular
column. Since her death, her good friend Marcia Foy (another dog show
judge) has been writing the column.

You can get quite a collection of really excellent books, if you were to collect all of her books and technical writings (80 publications) and copies of her articles.

The American Kennel Club honored her with a lifetime achievement award in 2000. If you go to their website, you can read what they wrote about her there if you do a search on the Year 2000 Awards.
They usually have a photo and a small biography about each award winner.

Anna Katherine was an AMAZING woman. Always pleasant and friendly, a true dog lover and always a lady. We definitely miss her in the sport of dogs. Her works remain behind as a renewable resource and gift that just keep on giving to the sport and to all dog-lovers.

Another good author of dog books relating to the sport and particularly to breeding purebred dogs that you might enjoy is Patricia Craig Trotter. I think her "Born to Win" book should be required reading for show breeders. She has had a PROFOUND impact on how I evaluate my dogs and which ones I now consider utilizing for breeding. We are both hound breeders.

Another author, if you want to learn about canine genetics, I suggest looking for is Dr. Alvin Grossman. Dr. Grossman's writing style is a little dry and can be difficult reading but the information is incredible and very very valuable.

Good luck and Best wishes!
