I don't know, but it certainly makes for interesting research. I'd never heard of William Monk before. It was interesting to note that William Monk's crime fighting partner was his nurse -- who, by the way became his love interest. Now I'm going to have to try to find a copy of those books.
But I was also a little surprised to discover that there are actually four literary and/or television detectives named Monk -- William, Ivan, Gus, and of course, our beloved Adrian. One of them also lived in San Francisco. (Pardon me if this has been discussed before. I'm a relative newbie)
You can read more about each of them here:
http://www.thrillingdetective.com/eyes2.htmlI saw that he was a Victorian detective last night and thought, maybe these books had been written during that era, like the Sherlock Holmes stories, so I tried
Project Gutenberg, but was disappointed in my search. Now I know why. Project Gutenberg is a volunteer based project where you can frequently find copies of entire texts/stories/books, as long as said texts are no longer under copywrite. I love this place. You can find Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christy, Robert Louis Stevenson, Homer, and Poe works here, just to name a few, and I see now that they offer the texts in a format that can be read from your Palm or Smart Phone! I wonder if my phone has that capability, I think it's a smart phone but it may be too old or a kind that doesn't have that option. But you can even download the entire Bible here, too.
