Happy Mother's Day, everybody!

In honor of Moms everywhere, I dug way back in the bowels of my saved emails, and found this gem about Moms that I'd like to share:

And this one:

EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT A MOM THIS FUNNY STUFF.

What's the difference between moms and dads?
1. Moms work at work & work at home, & dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
4.Moms' have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.
>>>>
What does your Mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.
>>>>
What would it take to make your Mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.
>>>>
If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on her back.

>>>> THE MOMMY TEST
I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that.

"Why?" my daughter asked.

"Because it's been laying outside, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty and probably has germs," I replied.

At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, "Wow! How do you know all this stuff?"

"Uh," ...I was thinking quickly,"All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mommy Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mommy."

We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.

"OH...I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test you have to be the daddy!"

"Exactly," I replied back with a big smile on my face and joy in my heart.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Dear Lord," the preacher began with arms extended and a rapturous
look on his upturned face, "without you we are but dust..."
He would have continued, but at that moment one very obedient
little girl (who was listening carefully) leaned over to her mother
and asked quite audibly in her shrill little girl voice, "Mommy, WHAT
is butt dust?"
Church was pretty much over at that point...
I have more "Mommy gems".....I'll post them as I find them.
Happy Mother's Day everybody!
wow has it been a year already? I guess with the summer off then the writer's strike, then the alternating episodes, not many episodes to watch him grieve, Jryan runs to Be by Bobby's side and gives him a big hug. and of course any think else he needs.
Those were adorable......what a great Mother's Day gift! She sang the second song beautifully!! I like
the Earthbound Mother song a lot from hearing it on Super Smash Bros. Melee, and it was sweet to hear her sing it.
I made my mother 2 bookmarks with drawings on them (with a little tassle on them, too), a necklace, and a Mother's Day flipbook
with cartoon pictures of her. She said "These are the things mother treasures".
Happy Mothers Day to all mothers, and even those who aren't mothers but take time to take care of the ones they love. =)
My daughter and son-in-law took me to Olive Garden for lunch and gave me a gift card for Borders. I had just been there before getting to the restaurant and ordered One Who Walked Alone by Novalyn Ellis. Cool! I told my daughter that Borders is always a safe bet with me--love it there!
I tried to find a book of poetry by Robert E. Howard, but the clerk said it looked like they couldn't order it. I also looked for Kowalski's book and they couldn't order it, either. I guess one out of three is something.
Happy Mother's Day to all the "invisible Moms" of the world! I also got this wonderful email this past week:
It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and asks to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm on the phone?' Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible. The invisible Mom. Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this?
Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, please.'
I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going, she's going, she's gone!
One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress; it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a hair clip and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, 'I brought you this.'
It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe. I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: 'To Charlotte, with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.'
In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything. A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, 'Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it.' And the workman replied, 'Because God sees.'
I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, 'I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become.'
At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride. I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.
When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, 'My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table.' That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, 'You're going to love it there.'
As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world willma rvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.
Great Job, MOM! Share this with all the Invisible Moms you know .... I just did.
This actually happened to me today and it so aptly demonstrates the spirit of Mother's Day that I thought I should share it.
This afternoon I stopped at a gas bar/convenience store to get gas. A young man who obviously had a mental/developmental handicap pumped my gas, watched closely by a teenage girl. Nearby there was a woman standing outside her car also observing the process. I paid the young man for the gas and gave him a $2.00 tip. When I went inside the convenience store, the young man was at the counter purchasing a large blueberry danish. The cashier, who obviously knew him, asked where he got the money for the danish. He said a lady gave it to him for pumping gas. He then asked the cashier if she could wrap up the danish. When she replied that she had plastic wrap, he asked if she had any paper wrap. She said no and asked why he wanted it wrapped in paper. He said "Becaise it's a Mother's Day gift for my mother." The cashier said she did have some pretty ribbon so she could wrap it in plastic wrap and put a nice bow on it. By this time a line-up had formed at the check-out but everyone waited patiently while the cashier made several attempts to get the bow just right. The young man then left the store and we all watched as he proudly presented the gift to his mother, the lady who was leaning on the car watching him pump gas.
What a sweet voice your daughter has and what a beautiful Mother's Day present Jryan.
I was thinking that I would be happy to get a phone call from my son today. (We are very close but he's a busy kid.) I was very happily suprised when he called to say that he and his wonderful girlfriend were coming to visit. They brought me tulips and chocolate. They are both very sweet. Then we sat in the livingroom talking and watching "The Deadliest Catch" for about 3 hours. LMBO laugh.gif . That was fine with me. I was just so happy and thrilled that they came!!!
I hate this pic because I look just like it but here is a pic we took to send to my husband's stepmother.
Happy Mother's Day to all the "invisible Moms" of the world! I also got this wonderful email this past week:
It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and asks to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm on the phone?' Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible. The invisible Mom. Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this?
Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, please.'
I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going, she's going, she's gone!
One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress; it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a hair clip and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, 'I brought you this.'
It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe. I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: 'To Charlotte, with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.'
In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything. A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, 'Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it.' And the workman replied, 'Because God sees.'
I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, 'I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become.'
At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride. I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.
When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, 'My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table.' That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, 'You're going to love it there.'
As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world willma rvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.
Great Job, MOM! Share this with all the Invisible Moms you know .... I just did.
As someone who too often feels like this, thanks for sharing! Your post brought tears to my eyes. Good tears, with a chuckle as well. tongue.gif
But Flashy, we must include the hubby who also is guilty of the "What time is it" & What channel is that on?" I have one of those, do you? biggrin.gif
Thnak you Vault...comfort to you as well.
You're welcome KimberlyT
Well Mother's Day #3 without a mother and #1 without any grandmothers went well.
Saturday night I called my aunt (now pretty much made an only child by life because both her parents and her younger siblings including my mother are gone). She is doing well considering it's been less than a month since we buried her mother (my last remaining grandparent). It was a little weird to have useful advice to give to her for once, especially because of our age difference, but I think she was glad to talk to someone who has an understanding of what she is going through due to my prior experience. Her daughters (one is six months older than me and one is six days older than me) I don't think get what it's like, nor should they. Hopefully it's a long time before they have to join the club that my aunt and I are now in.
Sunday while my Dad went up to Arlington National Cemetary (I begged off due to a headache and a general dislike of a two hour car ride to visit a grave from which I never seem to get any comfort or peace but I did send him with flowers, red carnations, some of her favorite flowers plus it *rained* yesterday, quite a lot) I stayed in, cooked delicious Chinese food from one of my mother's recipe books and watched the mother related movies on Turner Classic Movies ('Mildred Pierce', 'The Mating Season' and 'I Remember Mama').
Hope everyone else had a nice weekend.
