Okay, here is one of my favorites. I don't remember the name of the episode, but it's the one where the lady is walking her dog and sudddenly goes missing. Anyway, the dog is later found, covered in something disgusting. Well, Bobby being Bobby smells it. Alex turns and says that she doesn't want to know what it smelled like. It turns out to be coffee. But coolest part of this episode is the next part because the focus of the scene is on Bobby and Rogers, but the scene is shot over ALex's shoulder and she still manages to be apart of the scene. If you watch as Bobby and Rogers are talking, Alex reaches out and plays with the coffee grounds for a moment, then actually pulls a "Bobby" by smelling them. I didn't notice this the first time I watched this episode, but when I watched it the second time, I about fell out of my chair. As I stated, its a really subtle thing, but it adds something to the character.

For me, it is anytime Goren yells, I call it using The Voice on people. In particular, at the end of "Prisoner," at the end of "No Exit" . . . I know there are others. It poleaxes me, every time.

I like your idea behind this thread. LOCI is a very intelligent show. It is virtually impossible to catch all the subtleties on first viewing. IMO, the first time you view an episode, you absorb the story and some of the more observant viewers (of which I'm not one) pick up some on some of the activities going on in the background or some of the subtle expressions of emotional impact displayed by the actors (especially VDO). IMO that is why so many of us fans watch episodes over and over again. You never know when you will find a "gem" that adds to your understanding of a character. Being somewhat dense at times, I like being pointed in the right direction to find some of these "gems" such as you described in your post. No doubt there are threads somewhere about each episode from earlier seasons where these "gems" are discussed, but I am not aware of any other place where the "gems" spanning seasons would be posted in one place. I think this is a great resource for new fans and older ones like me who enjoy rewatching previous episodes. I realize that there is a "Favorite Episode" thread but I don't think it serves the same purpose because a "gem" can be burried in a crappy episode (IMO not many of those though).

I definitely want to watch the scene you described again. I don't know what episode it comes from, so any help to find it would be much appreciated.

Using "The Voice" on people (any chance you're a Frank Herbert fan?) I love it when Goren gets all angry too.

I actually never thought about this as being a good resource for new and seasoned fans, but I can see your point. And the part you mentioned about "gems" being buried in non-favorite episodes is exactly why I started this thread. There are some episodes that I enjoy as a whole, but there are others that I just LOVE certain scenes from. Case in point, the episode where the photographer takes photos of dead girls, then ends up being killed himself. They overplay that episode on USA, so I have seen it way too many time to enjoy it anymore. However, it is the episode that contains the little gem of Alex going to the suspected killer to have her portrait drawn, claiming to be new and single in the city. Then Bobby comes over and pretends to be hitting on her. LOVE THAT SCENE!!

My favorite scenes probably will have no relevance to what was going on, but they stick in my mind anyway.

Homo Homini Lupus: In the final interrogation with the perp, Bobby makes a comment about the perp's military group being "fierce", and he illustrates with jazz hands. Now, typing it, it sounds pretty ridiculous, but VDO totally carries it off. Maybe it's because his eyes aren't quite sane. Then he totally rips into the guy, but zomg the jazz hands...

Cruise to Nowhere: Rodgers, Alex and Bobby are all down in the morgue examining the victim, with Bobby doing his poke and tell. He finds the seasickness patch and is about to touch it when Rodgers whacks the back of his hand hard, then grabs a pair of tweezer to pull it off while Bobby goes to his corner. The power play is interesting, and Rodgers definitely asserts that it's "her house".

Badge: This has to be one of my favorite episodes of the first season. Two scenes stick out to me: First, when they go to Terry Randolph's home and Bobby's going after her with his 'Brooklyn wise guy' act, she totally tears into him and critiques everything about him. And you can see his face circle through reactions: shocked, pissed, disappointed and then desperately trying to find another way to attack. I like to think that he's upest and disappointed because Terry Randolph would have been a great detective, one that he may have had a lot in common with, if the system hadn't gotten her down. Then I imagine he has more appreciation for Alex making it through the "buddy boy" system and it's personal choice whether that's through friendship bracelets or other things...

That and when he awkwardly vouches for the Chief of Detectives assistant as being trustworthy, Alex shoots him this side look and says "Denise? You dog...". Then he leans back and gets this wicked shy grin. The commeraderie there is so fun and you start to get a peek at Bobby and Alex off the clock.

Good ones Quaxo. I watched "Cruise to Nowhere" last night and got a chuckle out of that scene and the face Bobby makes behind Roger's back when Eames looks up at him.

I recall all the other scenes except the one from Homo Homini Lupus but I will have to rewatch them keeping your post in mind.
DonnaLJo
A cute moment that I like is in this season's episode "Depths." They are in the squad room & Eames tells Ross that they found two pairs of underwear in the girls' place, one boxer, one bikini. After she says it (rather snarkily...as only Eames can do), Goren looks at Eames so appreciatively with this great grin, all the while rubbing his stubbly face with his hand. Love that. wink.gif
hullbound
I totally agree that there are always some good nuggets even in the episodes that are not our personal favorites.
None of the dialog in these is verbatim.
In Chinoiserie there is that great scene when Goren is acting like a bull in a china shop bumping into and almost knocking over the art pieces. The woman who works there is following him and saving the things from falling. Also in that episode when they go to the guy's office and Goren asks him if he is nervous because something like his tie is undone, phone's blinking, etc AND the guy is chewing the inside of his cheek like a chipmunk.
In Privilege even though it's not one of my favorites there are a lot of good scenes in the first half.
When they go to Lady Harrington's house and Eames says that she always dreamed of growing up in a house like that and Goren says "I hope you got over that."
When they are at the park sitting on a bench talking to two women and Goren says something like "Max, play nice." even though there is no Max and then asks the two women to keep an eye on their kid when they see and go after the guy they are looking for.
When Goren tells Lady Harrington's son to go sit down and shut up. Eames says "I'd sit down if I were you." The guy keeps talking and Goren says "I told you to sit down and shut up. So sit down and SHUT UP!" I hate yelling but for some reason that scene gets my heart pitter pattering and I giggle every time I see it.

Goren's face when he's sitting in the Ferrari when Eames tells him to get out.

Any time Bobby yells my heart goes pitter patter. biggrin.gif I think it's because he has that whole gentle giant thing goin on that when he yells, it makes us women at once sigh because, though we hate to admit it, we do sometimes want a man to defend and fight for us. I think that is also why I love it when Bobby gets all protective of Eames. I LOVE the scene in the episode with the chess master when the casino dealer/suspect starts "yellling" at Alex and Bobby strides over, throws his binder at him, and then pins him to the wall. (Also another example of an episode I'm not fond of, but I like to rewatch that scene).
lithium
Hmm... favorite, ha as if I could chose one, it seems every few episodes it changes.... Like the idea behind this thread as I tend to miss stuff too or more exactly I'm excited to just catch the episode once.

Best Defense
Goren and Eames are interviewing the friends of the attorney that supposedly got shot at.
Eames is talking to the couple. Goren stands next to the guy (attorney's friend) and imitates all his moves. Guy crosses arms, Goren crosses his arms, guy waves a hand and touches his face, Goren waves a hand and touches his face and so on the entire time Eames is talking to them. Lol, Goren's totally mocking him or something.

Sometimes when Goren does something really gross, Eames makes a face. I laugh cause I'm usualy making a face too. Like Con-text where Goren touches the eyeball, or somewhere in Season three where Eames tells Goren "if you do that again I'll drop the kid right here"

Oh on the topic, Granshaa don't like it but check at the beginning where Goren is checking over the lady who was run over. I don't know if it's a goof but when Goren smells her hands he gets his coat and badge right in her face. As in RL the blood and gore would have smeared right onto his nice suit. Ewww…. Incidentally though, excellent self control on the actress part. She convincingly plays dead as Goren exposes and touches her hip/waist and when he smells her hands, their faces are, like what, 20cm apart or less? Lol. Anyway I thought it was kinda weird (even for Goren) that he let his coat get into the blood and gore…
Peyton
"Endgame." When his mother admits to knowing Mark Ford Brady, he covers his face with his hands. That one small gesture... Gets me every time.
gorens_veal
I have always loved the scene in the episode about the Dentist (Gregory) that was suspected of dioxin poisining his wife, where Bobby and Eames go the the bar to play "Pub Quiz" or trivia as we call it.

The host asks a question and Bobby raises his hand and says something like "I got that one". Prior to that, one of the teamates says to Bobby and Eames something like "You might want to sit this one out if your partner is a know it all" (or something like that). Bobby really enjoys himself playing that.

Another really cool moment is in the episode where the pharmacist it tampering with the meds he is selling and he sets off his sprinklers in order to pad his supply. I love the scene where Bobby hold the lighter up to the sprinklers to show that the ones in the front part of the store have been disconnected. His facial expression says it all.

The chase scene and capture using the "Bonanza" ring tone in "Homo Homini Lupus"
The famous shoe store undercover scene where Vincent/Goren does his metrosexual guy in "Antithesis".
The coffee shop scene with Nelda when Robert is deeply touched by her helping him in "Semi-Detached".
The inhaler in "Smile". (Need I say more?)
When his mother is talking to him from the hospital telling him she is going to leave if he doesn't come up there and then hangs up. When he says "Mom?", I wimper.("The War at Home")
"Endgame" - the whole episode.
Robert dancing in "Legion", "Jones", "Pas de Deux", "Unrequited", and of course "Prisoner".
Robert watching the dancers in "Privilege".
The aria in American Sign Language in "Silencer"
The aria in "Gone" where Robert convinces the chess master to give up.
The aria in "Yesterday" where Robert gets so deeply into the perps head.
The aria in "Want" where Robert gets so deeply into the perps head.
The aria in....okay, any aria in any episode!
Any scene with his Mom. Any scene with Frank. Any scene with Robert and anyone. Okay, okay... any scene with Robert! That about covers it!
bcary1013
I don't necessarily enjoy the scenes between Bobby and his mom (though they are EXTREMELLY well acted), but they do give a lot of insight into why Bobby is the way he is. He constantly feels the need to prove himself, but on the flip side of that he feels he will never measure up. After all, that is what he is constantly being told by his mom. Bobby knows what Frank is really like, so imagine being told that Frank is the perfect, good son. It's like that one guy who thought he would end up a killer because he dad was one and the father told the kid that he had the best parts of him. And back on topic, I do enjoy learning more about the backstories of the characters.

I missed that when I watched it previously. You're right, his expression is priceless. Like: "Oh man, I'd better be right about this or I'll have a lot of explaining to do."

One of my moments is in Consumed when he goes over to the counter where a bottle of wine is and asks is this what you're serving and comments nice vintage then looks at it more closely and looks at the woman. The look on his face as he realizes that it is just ashes in wonderful. Then he puts both hands on the counter and leans back, too cool. I love that scene. I also love this thread or whatever you call it. It's really interesting to hear what little scenes people particularly like.

Another scene I love is one of the ones included in the opening credits where ALex and Bobby are investigating a murder at a church and Bobby jumps up on the back of the pew to tell the crime scene photographer where to snap the photo. I love how he uses one of head of a guy to push himself up. It's so typical Bobby. biggrin.gif

The paper throwing scene from FPS. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! Did I mention I love it? biggrin.gif What makes that scene for me is how Bobby looks around to see if anyone witnesses his little tantrum. I also like the scene that directly follows it when Bobby figures out who the killer is. There is just so much happening in that one little scene. You see Bishop trying to figure Bobby out, all while checking him out. Bobby figures out who the killer is by realizing that the video game designer is feeling just as he is - they both miss their partners. And my favorite part which my brain turned into a shipper moment (sorry all you non-shippers, you can just ignore this little insight. I promise I won't mind) is that Bobby said that the video game designer was "yearning" for his partner. I always thought that was an interesting choice of words to use since both of the partners in the video game company were male and not gay, that we knew of. To me, it seems that Bobby's choice of words have to do more with how he is feeling about Alex - he is yearning for her. (The next scene supports this theory, I feel, because Bobby says that the loss of one's partner makes one feel primal or primitive. I can never remember the exact word, but both have similar feelings behind them.) And a friend pointed out that if you watch his hand, he seems nervous when he is telling Bishop his theory. Non-shippers will point out that could be Bobby just being Bobby, but I always felt it went deeper than that.

One of my favorites is Bobby shooting up the toy store with the toy gun in Collective, S4. He said his brother had one like it and he was obviously very familiar with all seven features of the gun. As you can see, his facial expressions were just like a little kid.

I love the scenes where Bobby gets to show his lighter side, like the one mentioned above or in Cherry Red where he is discussing vintage cars. Plus, Cherry Red contains a Lewis scene and I love Lewis. He also seems to bring out the lighter, more carefree side of Bobby.

Badge, I liked where she pinned him down. I think he was also disappointed that she turned out so amoral. I think she was also surprised when he dropped the act and talked straight to her.

As for Denise. I think he was a bit embarrassed because he didn't date her, he just knew her and here was Eames thinking they had a thing. But yes it's a great look at their camaraderie and how they have fun playing off one another. I secretly think Eames liked seeing Bobby squirm just a touch too.

Hmm... favorite, ha as if I could chose one, it seems every few episodes it changes....

Best Defense - That's called pacing. Once you pace someone for a bit, without them noticing, you can then move into the next part which is called leading. That's when you make a move first, then the person you've been pacing will start to copy you unconsciously. It doesn't work with large moves like walking from place to place, but the gestures you make while you're talking or maybe scratching your face, putting you hand on your neck, things like that. This is a real thing and with practice anyone can do it.

I really wish they had let him move on to the leading bit. That would have been awesome.

I have to say that despite them overplaying this episode quite a bit,
Country Crossover
"Cocaine in a recording studio? I'm shocked. Shocked!" and after Wheeler has explained why they had to work the case and telling him about Chelsea being at a "tipping point" etc, when he's explaining to someone else why they're on it, he uses Wheeler's explanation, right in front of her, without giving her credit. Her face is priceless.

One of my favorites is Bobby shooting up the toy store with the toy gun in Collective, S4. He said his brother had one like it and he was obviously very familiar with all seven features of the gun. As you can see, his facial expressions were just like a little kid.

What a shame what a shame... I am so disappointed in my self considering that I have not yet seen this episode I would love to see it because it looks really fun to watch him play.

LOVED this one! I saw this episode twice before and really didn't clue in to why he behaved the way he did either time. Just thought he was being Bobby. Only when you see what is actually in the bottle and then recall his behaviour do you put 2 and 2 together. As I said before, I can be really dense sometimes. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

oooh, my mind just went to a bad place. wink.gif I love watching for Alex's snarky comments. I, myself, have a very sarcastic sense of humor so I love whenever Alex gets to throw a zinger out there.

That scene is one of my favorites as well. Another scene in FPS that I really enjoyed occurred when Goren and Bishop were searching the victim's apartment. Goren simulated the attack by grabbing Bishop unexpectedly by the throat and pushing her backwards towards the patio. After pushing his hand away, Bishop walked behind him towards the bedroom. In the hallway, behind Goren's back, she glanced at him and her expression said "What a wierdo!" Bobby, however, had a bit of a self-satisfied smirk on his face like the opportunity to strangle her was something he just couldn't pass up.

I decided to edit and add a screen cap of "the look" because on screen it is very fleeting.

Hahaha yes I know where your mind is at because mine went there too...Alex is pretty good with her comments she has her fair share of zingers usually directed at Goren but then again if I were her I don't know if I would be able to keep those comments to myself either hahaha.

At the end of "See Me." It's an episode way before we meet mom. We see Bobby on the phone, presumably to a doctor at Carmel Ridge. He hangs up the phone, looks around and grabs his coat. Gets me every time

Robert watching the dancers in "Privilege".

I watched "Privilege" again last night and paid particular attention to that scene. You are right. Thanks for pointing it out because it is a wonderful scene. This episode immediately follows "The War at Home" and Bobby is pretty much an emotional wreck in that episode. We all know that Bobby enjoys dancing himself but this scene confirms that watching dancers perform is also a catharsis for him. For a few moments the "light" came back into his eyes and he seemed to relax and enjoy an experience for the first time in a long while.

My take on Bishop from this episode is a little different than yours. I always thought that she kind of had a crush on him. If you watch when she sits on his desk, she sits up right next to him, like she really wants to be sitting on his lap. Then at the end of the episode, she looks crushed when Bobby gets Alex's text about her nephew being born and at the happy look Bobby gets on his face. She just looks so sad when she tells him that to call Alex. Great stuff.

And as a follow up to that, I love how happy Bobby seems to be during "Unrequited" (Love the name of the episode as well, being a shipper and all. Kind of fitting, to me at least.) He is just almost giddy that Alex is back. I really like the scene in where Bobby is watching the acting/dance class and he starts copying there moves from behind the glass in the office.
AmandaB
Yeah, I don't really know what to make of Bishop. Though it's clear that Bobby is very glad to see her go, considering he doesn't even say good bye at the end of Mad Hops, the next episode after FPS. The thing that gets me about that episode every time is when he's talking to the basketball couch, which is very insightful both because we learn again how he doesn't like being contradicted and because he rarely talks about his dad. I also like the iPod grab.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned a Logan episode yet. One of my favourites has to be To the Bone. That entire episode rocks, especially his talk with Olivet.

Yes, you have described the scene perfectly. In "Unrequited" he watched... and imitated the dancers at the acting/dancing school. But in "Privilege" he is in a much different place in his life. But "for one brief shining moment" he did have that light in his eye! ***sigh***

I understand why the writers have taken Bobby and Alex on this emotional turn the last couple of seasons, but I wish they would bring back a little of the more joyful moments in the first three seasons. I miss the undercover operations, the way Bobby and Alex just seemed to know what the other would do. A perfect example is the scene (again, don't remember the name of the episode) where Alex is playing a waitress and she spills coffee on Bobby. I love his reaction because you know he really isn't mad at Alex, though he is yelling at her. I just always loved how they were able to turn that off and on as this was not the first or last time they "fought" in order to get a response from a suspect.

I just watched this episode and it gets me too, he doesn't even need to speak his actions say everything.

This is an unsual one, but I love the scene right after Bobby tells Alex to back off. He comes back all meek and says something about looking at something or talking to someone (I can't remember what exactly). Anyway, I love the look Alex gets on her face and when she says "Yeah, you do that" in her snarkiest tone. The first time I saw that, I was all, "Yeah, you tell him!"
Chestilaroo
I can't remember exactly what episode but it is in the first season when they are talking about, I believe it is the govenor and his assistant they need an alibi, Eames is sitting at the computer and Goren pulls and chair up with almost no expression and say, "I can vouch for the assistant." Then Eames turns to him and tells his "you dog" I don't know why but I love the way Goren says it and how he literally has no expression.
