I'm too much of a TV junkie to truly go into all my addictions -- it pretty much plays out that I've got at least 1 show I have to catch each night of the week...well, except for Friday and Saturday nights. Yes, eagle-eyed readers, I know Psych's on Friday night, but...alas, I don't have cable -- so I have to catch it on Saturday during the day. smile.gif

And that doesn't even count the times I'm a slave to NASA TV during launches of various types or during on-mission programming when the shuttle's up. Satellite launch this week on the 4th, and the next shuttle mission on the 12th.

...you don't have to say it -- I know I'm a nerd. tongue.gif
Psychictravelingblueberry
jackal here!!
Continuing with the conversation..
about your non- watching friday nights.....I was about to say "WHAT?!?!?!" hahaha laugh.gif
I wouldn't say a nerd, just knowelgeable about satilite launching and stuff!! wink.gif
I watch Monk and Psych, and occasionaly House. nothing else really. But i am the couch potato here. dude, I sit on my couch & i get on my laptop for like 8 hours nonstop. its pretty wierd wink.gif But for all of those 8 hsr, its watching my psych dvd's or looking at psych youtube videos or poasting on psych forms..yeah, im the psych nerd!! tongue.gif

I'm currently making my way through Lost Seasons 1 and 2 with some borrowed DVD sets. My Psych DVDs had been getting a good workout before that. biggrin.gif

I'm currently using Netflix to make my way through Season 1 of 30 Rock....next up, Season 2. Gotta love their instant-viewing option. smile.gif Figured I'd better get them done now before I'm glued to NASA TV later this week and next. And the next. dry.gif I'll have it on in the background while I do my coursework.

LOL... and they claimed that DVDs would last forever (or at least 50+ years) when they first came out and started replacing VHS tapes... but really DVDs don't have much longer of a life than VHS tapes did, I'm convinced sometimes they're even worse.

Umm... War Time Presidents? Changes in Presidential political parties? Theodore Roosevelt (LOL, that was my 4th grade president report)? Familial relations of the presidency (The Adams, the Roosevelts, the Bushs, could even discuss the Clintons even though she didn't get the nomination... I don't know if there are other similar examples of not elected or nominated runs by family)? Presidential policies during recessions? Ohh... vice presidents who became president?

LOL... don't know if that is any help... just things I thought of just now

Well those are all good things to keep in mind! Thank you. The familial relations topic came to me early on, but I'm such a nerd with political science I was thinking of examining the development of the presidential cabinet and how it has evolved over the years. The topic isn't due til Monday, but I'm meeting with my professor tomorrow and I want to try to narrow ideas down so I can hit the ground running with this thesis.

LOL... I am the exact opposite... I was a nerd in everything *but* social studies/history/poly sci. Give me a calculus problem any day of the week over that stuff. Or assign me to write a paper on a literature book... which I will write without ever reading the book!

I detest math. I really do not like it, I'm not horrible at it, but I still just do not like it. Oh my gosh, I really am a nerd. I love love love politics, no joke. I am just really fascinated by every aspect of it, but I think it's one of the most amusing things ever. I've got my love for political science, television production & mass media, theater and writing all mixed into one with a communication major and political science minor. We'll see where that goes.

<Beth raises hand>

I have an idea; whether or not it's a good one is up to you: 'The Effects of Increasing Partisanship upon the U.S. Presidency.'

My source for this inspiration is an article from the Austin American Statesman, which can be found here.

i personally can't stand politics or advanced math...probably has to do with anything that causes me to have to think too much. lol
or maybe it's all the rules...was never one for those either.

my fascination/obsession?

MUSIC!

every kind.

there is nothing quite like hearing the orchestra build and build until it hits that crescendo...beautiful. I also have a love affair with the Cello (and most other stringed instruments)

Do you play?

(not entirely related, but...) I used to (a very long time ago) play trombone... I was pretty good, but hated marching (loved symphonic band), so didn't continue in high school. I play the guitar... badly. I like music, but was never extremely talented. Oh, and I love to sing, but do it very badly... so my car and shower generally are the only ones to hear me sing.

i only WISH i could play. The only thing i can play is Rock Band and even that is iffy. lol

what i can do is sing. i did choir all through school and still go out to Karaoke once a week to live out my rockstar fantasies. lol

when i was in school though i had a teacher tell me that i had "perfect tonal memory" not as cool as Shawn but it means that if you ask me to sing you a song i can, without any help, sing it perfectly in tune, on pitch, in key....it's all in my head. I hear a song once and i know it. My head is like an iPod.

Okay, so now I've gotten my fresh-to-death glasses ordered after my not so fresh-to-death eye exam, and I thought I'd weigh in. No, I'm not sure what the glasses have to do with this, but just go with me on it. tongue.gif

How about examining the impact of technology on the presidency? Either in the way that the chief executive interacts with the American people or other world leaders or the way the president is perceived by the American people. I mean, let's face it -- television revolutionized the presidency, and even advances within TV, such as 24-hour cable networks, have further had a great impact. People are now more aware of what the president does on a day-to-day basis, and it presents both new challenges and new promise. And that's not even counting the changes brought about by the Internet.

Wow. That probably sounded totally nerdy. Blame the glasses, even though I don't have the new ones yet. Yeah...that's it...the glasses. wink.gif I figured that'd be a better topic than my first thought -- the changing presidential vision of space exploration and policy, especially in this day and age of international cooperation....

Okay, really....I'm done being a nerd for now. But I can't guarantee there won't be more later. But at least I have the win.

I take pride in my nerdiness.

To answer #1--it can take up to 24 hours for the avatar to update in the system after you have uploaded it... so, unfortunately, you just have to be patient (I know that can be hard--it's certainly not one of my virtues!)

To answer the second--there's an odd glitch in the USA network message boards that you can't change your profile information (I think this may affect those who registered past a certain date or something... I dunno, I know I can't and many others have reported they can't). It sucks. I've tried to ask for help from admins with no response... so basically, my understanding is, what the profile info says is what you're stuck with--at least without losing your screen name and opening a new account with the desired profile info.

Hope that helps, as unhelpful as the actual answers may be.
