Years ago I watched the minis eries the made from Dean Koontz book intensity. The mini folowed the book pretty well. So I started reading the mist after seeing the feature . . . close but no cigar. It seems the only way a movie can do a book any justice is by being 10 hours long. Hahaha hence LotR. What are you reading was there a movie made about it? Will there be?

I am rereading the Harry Potter series.

I just finished Parable of the Sower a very powerful book lots of messages with no movie to speak of. I'm currenlty reading the Memory Keepers Daughter also no flick to speak of but an intense read none the less. And as soon as I get a moment I'm swining in to borders to grab Wicked they made the play (which it is likely i wont see), I hoe for a movie but if that never happens I want to at least have read the book. All my friends are talking about how good it is.

I just re-read Harry Harrison's "The Stainless Steel Rat for President"

and now I'm reading, "A Plague of Deamons" by Keith Laumer. It's about extra-terrestrial dog-man things who are stealing brains from battlefields (which accounts for the unexplained missing persons people always debate about) and other places. They have everyone hypnotized so they don't see them and they harvest us to put in battle machines. It turns out that the dog-men represent true Evil in the universe and they are fighting Good . . . pure Good which turns out to be pretty bad even to the most conservative of US . . . the hybrids called, "Art".

It's cool and the main character first becomes a bionic man, then gets harvested and takes over his new battle-droid body because of the hypno-therapy (personality fragment) he got from his buddy who did the surgery in their secret underground H.Q. He takes over the whole army and carries the fight on taking over 'bots and freeing minds across the cosmos . . .

I need to get a copy of, "The 27th Day" . . . it's about aliens who land and give capsules to selected people from different countries. They tell everyone that there is a secret to the capsules, and if it can be solved then they can be used for good. If not, they can just say, "Activate" and then give the longitude and lattitude of targets and they will destroy all human life in a big radius. The aliens are tired of Man's constant squabbling and want to get 'er dun - one way or another.

The professor of the group finds the secret. He figured - why would super-smart aliens just give us a way to wipe ourselves out? He made a slight chemical change - and the capsules then caused everyone in their blast zone to be changed, too! Some died outright - but they were all really evil people. Afterwards, with the stuff from the pills forever in the atmosphere, a politician would occasionally get the "power sickness" and would have a big headache and be bedridden for a few days, but then he would return to normal and be a happy, loving person.

World peace achieved. Good story. We need those pills!!!

I'm reading at the moment my "nutrition science with chemistry" folders. I have my final examination on Monday. I hope I will make it good :-)

The last book I finished was "A Confederacy of Dunces"

Hilarious and definitely feature-worthy, but apparently it's "cursed" as many actors considered for the role of Ignatius in a film adaptation have died an untimely death. (Belushi, Candy, Farley...all would have been excellent in the role.)

So, we won't be seeing it any time soon.

Reading Stalked By Brian Freeman. Any fellow mystery fans out there?

I am reading for probably the 20th time The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough. It has already been made into a mini series some time in the 80's which I have seen a few times but can't stand to watch because they leave out so many of the good parts, but IMO you can never re-create a good book on screen successfully.

Currently: The Secret Life of Harry Houdini

I haven't read it and have no desire to read vampire fiction books.......only one I'll read will be Dracula by Bram Stoker. Read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley -- VERRRY different from what the movies make it out to be! Really a top notch story, very sad in a way.

Right now, I'm reading Foreign Body by Robin Cook.....when I'm not playing around here, running the house, doing my Scout stuff, watching LOCI or trying to write my fanfic.........Also have a new John Grisham book and a new Tanenbaum book next in line to read.
kees_lady
I just picked up the first 9 books written by Kathy Reichs - this is the lady the series "BONES" is based on.

So far I'm a couple chapters into the first book, Deja Dead, and it looks like it's going to be a great read.
