Hi Bubba here, even though we finished season six about a month ago, I thought it would be a good time to put together a thread for season seven. Here are some things we know ...
News & Notes
Season seven will begin Friday, July 18th, 2008.
Season seven will begin filming in eight to ten weeks after season six is finish airing, according to Tony in the chat last month.
Here's some information on Monk's 100th episode ...
Diana in Poland, Maine: Any info on my favorite OCD detective, Mr. Monk?
Yes! Tony Shalhoub says, "This summer, like mid-July, we're going to shoot our 100th episode! And as you know, the number 100, a big, even number, is a very important number to the character of Adrian Monk. So we're actually going to do a quick retrospective, and a lot of the guest stars who have appeared on the show in the first six seasons will come back and be interviewed, talking about their experience with Monk, whether they're doing their interview from jail or whatever it is." Nice. And cross your fingers for a Sarah Silverman stop-by!
The upcoming season will contain Monk's 100th episode; it'll be partially a clip show, where Adrian Monk will work his 100th case for the San Francisco PD, while a reporter writes a profile about him. The reporter will meet "old friends," as Breckman put it, who will reflect on Monk and his past cases. "At first I thought, hey it'll be a breeze but I think it's going to be a challenge," said Breckman. Shalhoub chimed in by joking that "we're hoping it's really really expensive, too."

Sept. 5th will be the 100th episode! John Turturro will be back as Monk's brother. The episode will follow Monk ala a Dateline NBC that's doing a profile of him.

I know acouple of people who realy cant wait. If I add myself to the list I think I'm up to a few, but still - June?!?
It's so horribly far away and yet so close and still... <sly little smile> Just in time for my birthday.
...
It's too much to think that it was planned that way, right?
<sigh> Well, a man can dream, cant he?

BTW - I think you're going to have a very pleasant summer. Muppet Season 3 is due out on May 20th. Just enough time to watch that a couple of times before Monk arrives. Life is good -- or rather will be.
This post is written with a cheerful exuberance, looking ahead to great summer viewing, and a relief that my fever is finally down. Have a nagging suspicion that I'm going to look over my posts from the last few days and crawl into a corner. Who'd have thought they put doxynil (sp?) in Nyquil?

Anyone who ever heard Bobcat Goldwaith (sp?) read off the ingredients in a TAB cola and compare them to the ingredients in battery acid. (Same stuff, different dosages - at least humor wise)
But it's great you're feeling better!

Season six was supposed to be released on dvd, Tuesday, June 10th. But now will be released, Tuesday, July 8th ...
Maybe the later release date on the DVD means they're taking the time to add some cool extras... like lots of commentary.

No, Bubba, Sorry.
You're safe. I have lousy aim anyway.
The extras look like a lot of what is already on the USA site. I'm wondering if the delay has something to do with the NBC run starting in April, but I don't know.
The only thing I do know is that there are still 6 episodes from season six that I have never seen, and there seems to be a deliberate conspiracy to keep me from them. (Bubba - you're not part of that, are you?)
But at least USA is still showing one of them this Friday, and it's almost April, so NBC will start soon too. So, life isn't all that bad.
I'll live.

I sure hope so, the commentary on The Leper was the only worthwhile thing included in the extras for season five. The season five bonus features were kind of disappointing. If the season six bonus features aren't any better, I think I'll just keep watching my recorded from TV episodes and wait till season six goes on clearance or something. It's just not worth the extra cost for the DVD sets if that's all that we get.

Perhaps several years from now when and if the series is rereleased on blu-ray, they'll circle back around and record new commentaries for earlier episodes.
It does look good, but there's a nagging feeling at the back of my brain. With Monk seemingly growing so much closer to "the gang," and with TS talk of how they've allowed the other actors to explore their roles, would it not make sense to include other cast members on the cover art?
Then again, the show is Monk.
Any thoughts?

I have thought the same thing, BfloGal. And it's been a pretty long time since we got to see promo pics of the other cast members or a picture with the whole gang in it.

It's so good to see that there will be more commentaries on this set of DVDs. The cast and crew must have heard that fans enjoyed the one on the Leper. It's going to be hard to wait until July for this.
Another episode has been lined up for filming: Mr. Monk Gets Lotto Fever

Robert Loggia's a character actor who's been in almost everything. He may be best known for the Tom Hank's film Big. He plays the boss and does the memorable Piano number with Hanks. The first thing I ever saw him in was 1982 Psycho II as Normans Bates' psychiatrist. He had his own short-lived series in 1989-90 Mancuso, FBI and in 1991 co-starred with Hector Elizondo and Scott Bakula in the film Necessary Roughness. That's the stuff I know him from. I believe he also had a recurring role on The Sopranos.

I don't know if this was posted anywhere else. Forgive me if it has. It showed up in my Yahoo mailbox yesterday.
Beginning July 18th. Among other things, Monk buys a new house, meets his half brother, and spends an entire hour on a submarine. We'll also meet his new shrink Dr. Neven Bell (A palindrome though Monk points out, not a perfect one since the first N is capitalized) .
Sept. 5th will be the 100th episode! John Turturro will be back as Monk's brother. The episode will follow Monk ala a Dateline NBC that's doing a profile of him.
- Entertainment Weekly
( I can only imagine what the submarine episode will be like )

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So as we heard by the episode title he does buy a house. I wonder what it will be like?
We meet Jack Junior -- can't wait!
An hour on a sub - I wonder if it will be a time limit episode like someone suggested. But on a submarine - that's close quarters for a clautrophobe -- looking forward to it.
Dr. Neven Bell- Hmmm. I had a professor named Dr. Bell -- most popular in the school. I wonder if Monk picked him out of a phone book because of the symmetry of his first name?
And Ambrose coming back? Yipeee!!!!
And they would be using the regulars of Dateline? Professional journalists -- one of the things on my wish list.
It's like Christmas in July!!! Only twice as exciting and harder to wait for.
Thanks Crystal!

Dr. Bell?! LOL! That's great.
A Dr. Joseph Bell was Conan Arthur Doyle's inspiration for Sherlock Holmes, he was a little bit like Dr. House in that he could have an intern parade patients past him and he would diagnose them and deduce all kinds of things about them by a series of deductions, like where they are from, where they work, what they do, how many children they have, that they have recently made career changes, ect. If you can find the Annotated Sherlock Holmes by William Barring Gould you about it further, though you might also be able to find some stuff on the internet as well.
Kudos on the name, writing team! I love the way they slip in these little things.
Edited to add: I also can't wait to see the missing Monk brother and see Ambrose again! I wonder if we will see dad again this season? I hope that Amborse gets to see their dad again, and I think it will be great if he takes one look at him, and instead of being overjoyed, he gets angry and starts telling him off, much to everyone's surprise, including Ambrose himself.

Yay! Ambrose. It’s about time. And I'm anxious to meet Jack, Jr. Poor Monk on a submarine. I spent the night on a submarine in the San Francisco Bay one time. I don’t know if you can pay me enough to do it again. And it sure does sound like Monk is buying a house for real. I must confess, as much as I am looking forward to the episode, I am going to have a hard time dealing with him not living in his old place any longer, not to mention losing Dr. Kroger. At least I have been warned and can prepare myself.

That idea they have for the 100th episode wouldn't work without Sharona guest starring. She was the most important person in Monk's past and would be the first choice (besides Natilee and possibly Stottlemeyer and Disher) to be interviewed or whatever for a story about Monk.
Haha and by the way, didn't Monk already solve more than 100 cases on that Big Game episode? Plus he solves a case in every episode, so that would be 99 by the time of the 100th episode, plus it's been mentioned that he has solved other cases besides those in the show. Just thought I'd mention that because didn't they say the 100th episode will be celebrating his 100th case?
