Ok, what is the deal with celebrities singing at Xena conventions? Although I enjoyed Tim O.'s part (HEY they didn't show the whole song! Eeh!), there seems to be a tradition of sorts judging by the other videos I've seen. At least Tim O. is doing his best "Rat Pack" coolness take on that song.

By the way, is it just me, or does that suit look a little too big on his "tall-skinny" self? He reminds me of David Byrne from that Talking Heads video.

I'm going to guess that it's because he was in Xena, but it's not like I could tell you for sure.

I do sometimes think his suits look not necessarily too big, but just like they need tailoring. He's tall and thin-that can't be an easy build to find clothes for.

"I'm going to guess that it's because he was in Xena, but it's not like I could tell you for sure.

Well I know he's singing at a Xena Con because he was on that show, I'm just wondering why celebrities that were on Xena, a "sci-fi" series, seem to be singing at Xena Cons on a regular basis. I don't think that's something you see very often, celebrities singing at fan conventions, unless it's specifically a fan convention for music celebrities. Just curious if it's some sort of fan culture specifically associated with that show.

Any Xena fan out there that can answer this?

Xena had many "musical" episodes. They would literally turn the show into a musical. Like Scrubs did once. Almost everyone on that show had fantastic singing voices, so I think it just became a thing the fans wanted and loved. They cast loved to perform, and the fans loved hearing them do so. Did that make sense? lol!

OK, so what's up next on the screencap frenzy agenda? And how about a topic for the night (or, as slow as it will probably be the next few days, the weekend)?

I'll throw out a topic here:

- should the writers give Lassiter a love-interest in season 4?
- if you think so, what do you want to see the show's writers do with the idea? (what type of woman, plot devices, etc.)

I'll throw in my 2 cents to get things started. Yes, I think the writers should, and probably will, include a Lassie love-interest in the show at some point in season 4. They need to let Lassiter's character (as well as others) continue to grow, and they left the door wide open in this department after "Tuesday the 17th". I wouldn't be surprised to see it go no further that be the fodder for mere comical references (such as in "Zero to Murder in 60 Seconds"), but I believe it will be included at some point. Will they give him a SERIOUS romantic plot line? I don't know. Heck maybe they'll even go for the "Lassiter's new flame is a suspect" episode idea I mentioned before. If they do, they need to be very careful about how they handle it (as always).

I've got another idea for a way to rear up this subject that would be completely in-line with the show's premise and characters. Have Shawn accidentally (or on purpose?) interrupt Lassiter on a date. Shawn and Gus are eating at some restaurant and they happen to see Lassiter and his date there. Of course Shawn would not be able to resist bugging him, both in the restaurant and afterwards at the station. Now that would be something to see. Could even be a running comedic theme throughout the whole episode. Comedy gold, I tell ya!

Thoughts/opinions?

Just got back from a trip to L.A. and had the chance to meet Tim at a very cool museum. He was with his daughter (i'm guessing). and I have to say he's a very down to earth guy. Easy to see he is a good person at heart as opposed to other celebs. I'll see if I get the chance to post the pic we took.

Out of curiosity, did you meet him at the museum while he was there for some special function, or just happen to run into him accidentally while visiting as a patron?

Oh that's funny. I didn't really watch the show so I had no idea they had so many episodes where the cast broke into song. Thanks for the info.

There's a thunderstorm here now, better kill my computer for tonight. See ya tomorrow for more discussions!

It's always good to hear an actor we like is still a great person even if the cameras aren't rolling. Granted, he has a wife and two kids, so I'd feel really awful for them if he were a stuck-up jerk like some others. And it would be such a waste of gorgeous blue eyes! I feel they should only be allowed on people who deserve them. tongue.gif

Agreed! It' such a buzzkill to find out your favorite celebrity is an annoying, self-absorbed a$$. Glad to hear that Tim O. apparently does not fit that personality type.

Awww, such a cute picture. Is that your kid strapped to your chest? Cute! (Well I hope it's your kid. Most people don't walk around with strange babies strapped to their bodies.) Is that the "Santa Barbara Tar Pit" from "Scarry Sherry"? (the pathetic little mud hole of a tar pit in a backyard, hah)

Okay, finally throwing in my 2 cents on the subject...

Yes, I think they'll give him some sort of romantic interest this coming season. If not, I'll be disappointed. I've said it before and I'll continue to say it-the poor man's earned it!

I do hope it won't be particularly serious, though. At least not for a while. Maybe by the back half of the season, if not until season 5. I want him to gain some of his confidence back now that his ex-wife is finally really out of the picture. (Notice: I did refrain from using any of the horrible descriptors floating around in my head. biggrin.gif ) I'd like for him to find his footing again and begin to believe in himself outside of his job. I know the first interest or two we see will probably go horribly awry because our poor Carlton is fairly socially-awkward, and that's to be expected. The writers/exec. producers also seem to really enjoy his playing up his awkwardness and quirks for all they're worth. We all saw him in "He Loves Me Not[...]." (Sidenote: I'd really like to see what he was like when he was still dating his ex-wife. I want to know exactly what changed and all that.) He's not comfortable in strictly social settings and that's not going to change overnight. He's still going to have to get around that fact before anything really serious can happen. I'm more than willing to wait.

As for your idea, Texas: I kind of like it! And it's really very plausible. He's already developed crushes on a drug addict and a prostitute. I really don't think it'd be that big of a stretch for him to fall for a potential murderer!

Great picture! (And cute kid!) And since it wasn't a special event, it's nice that he's willing to talk a few minutes to talk to people even if he's not exactly planned for it. I must admit-I'm pretty jealous right now. smile.gif

It looks like we're going to have a short-haired Lassie again for season 4, though. Maybe it'll grow back quickly?

I haven't seen all of season 3, missed the first half because I wasn't a fan of the show back then. The drug addict was obviously in "American Duos", but in which episode did Lassiter have a crush on a prostitute? (I don't need to be 'psychic' to know it's one of the episodes I missed)

YEAH! I know just about everyone here likes Lassiter's hair a tad longer, but I'm a fan of the "neat" look. That's just me.

As for that picture:

20 points for being a cool guy. By the way, the "squib" casually makes an appearance, for all you fans out there.

It's from "Daredevils!" And he didn't realize she was a prostitute until Jules told him, but that's kind of my point. I'm curious, when did you become a fan and what episode was it?

I don't think of his slightly slonger hair as not "neat," I think it's just that he looks slightly less pretentious with not-so-perfectly styled hair, or something like that anyway.

Definitely noticed the squib. How could I not?

Points noted!

Well I started out as a big fan of Monk from day 1 after seeing the pilot episode. It was so darn refreshing to see such a well-written, complex character that you could laugh at AND feel sorry for at the same time. Truly rare and unique. When Psych started up, I saw the commercials for it during Monk commercial breaks. Originally I thought, "Oh great. Another 'defective detective' Monk rip-off. Maybe I'll try watching it once." I half-watched a little bit of the pilot, and a few scenes from episodes here and there, but at the time I wasn't impressed. I always seemed to catch a scene where Shawn was having a "vision" and the humor seemed too slapstick for my tastes. I do remember that I recognized Tim Omundson from his role on Deadwood, and liked him as the Lassiter character. I also remembered thinking, "I wish they wouldn't have him be such an a$$sole all the time. That gets old after a while."

Then a few months ago, when they were airing the second half of season 3, I was bored with nothing to watch on TV, and I saw Psych listed on the guide. I had seen the first 15 minutes of "Six Feet Under The Sea" and remembered thinking the show was a lot funnier than when I saw it last. I thought "Oh what the hell, nothing else is on, I'll give it a chance." The episode I watched was "Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing", and I was hooked. The humor was much more intellectual than I had previously thought, and it really appealed to me since I grew up in the 70's and 80's. I also saw that Lassiter's character had evolved quite a bit so he wasn't as much of a jerk, much like they gradually did with Captain Stottlemeyer on Monk, and at that point I became intrigued as to when the shift occurred. I went out the next night and purchased the season 1 & 2 DVD sets and started watching in earnest.

I think it took season 3 to get me hooked because I feel the show has really hit it's stride and is going strong now. I think it really started to gel as a great TV show near the middle of season 1, especially near the end, then came on strong in season 2, and hasn't slowed down since. Now I'm waiting impatiently for season 4, as well as the season 3 DVD set.

Hooray! The long-winded story of a fan's birth!

Texasartchick
acubound05
It's funny to me that you say it took season 3 to get you hooked, whereas I know several people who've watched it since season 1 who really have not liked a lot of this past season. I've loved it of course, but I think a lot of that may have to do with the fact that I've been significantly more attached than most around me since the beginning. They're in it strictly for the comedy, but I don't often take anything at face-value anymore so I watch things a little more closely. I tend to feel like I've really gotten to know the characters (especially Lassiter, but not so much Jules-she's complicated!) and so I've loved watching the character growth and the more serious undercurrents of the show being brought up to the surface. It's been particularly rewarding with Lassie. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that in reality, I relate to Lassiter more than any of the other characters by leaps and bounds. And I've yet to be wrong about any of his more underlying traits that have been revealed. And let's face it, who doesn't like being proven right?!
Texasartchick

Yeah I've read the opinions of some on the USA forum that they weren't happy with the more "serious" episodes such as "Tuesday the 17th" and "Mr. Yang". But I LOVED "Tuesday the 17th", if you're an 80's cheesy horror movie fan at all (Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc.) that show was GOLD. I all the inside references, the camera shots and angles, hell he even threw in a reference to a little-known Friday the 13th movie spoof called April Fools Day (yes, that was really a movie) in there. Well before the Wayans Brothers started the Scary Movie franchise that most moviegoers are familiar with today. If you truly understand the references then that is, in my opinion, the funniest episode of Psych so far. I watched a rerun of that episode up at my parent's house, and even my mom busted out laughing. (DUDE! PLEASE cover your junk!) Even during the "scary" parts is still wasn't too serious. Gus throwing a pool noodle at the bad guy? Come on!

The only aspect of the show that worries me is what they might do with the whole "Shules" thing. After watching the end of "Mr. Yang", I worry they're getting dangerously close to destroying the light-hearted "flirting friends" atmosphere, and that would be bad in my opinion. They hook up, it kills the show. In my opinion it would kill the chemistry between the show's core group of characters that they have worked so hard to achieve. At least they had Shawn turn her down, and her accepting it well.

Waiting for the slings & arrows from the Shules crowd to appear....

So out of curiosity, what is your favorite moment from season 3 so far? (I'll venture an educated guess that it might be the "goodbye" scene between Lassiter and Victoria.)

I'm really pretty sure you don't have to worry about arrow-slinging here. Most who post regularly on this thread agree with you whole-heartedly, though I don't know where they've been lately.

Also Texas, you are very good with the guessing! That is definitely one of my favorite moments. It's the best piece of acting Tim's gotten to do on this show so far, in my opinion. He has wonderful comedic timing and regularly makes me laugh, but in that scene he absolutely broke my heart and made me cry. How could I not love it? As an added bonus, Victoria's finally gone! And there was much rejoicing on my part, let me tell you! There are words for women like her, but I will refrain from using any of them right now. I'm sure she probably had a couple of fairly valid reasons, but the way she did it is unacceptably cruel to me. I swear, if they bring her back under any circumstances besides having committed some heinous crime against humanity I'll have some a$$-kicking to do, unless Lassiter does it himself (which I highly doubt would ever happen).

Another favorite of mine is the scene in "Lassie Does a Bad Bad Thing" on the boardwalk in front of the Psych office. Lassie just looks so down-trodden, and because it's not in such a heart-breaking way as "Tuesday the 17th," it's pretty adorable. In addition, there is the obvious wonderful moment behind the van right after Shawn is released in "Gus Walks Into a Bank." "You're so SEXY right now!" will always be one of my favorite lines ever uttered on this show. Ever. Nothing topped it for me this season, though several lines came very, very close. Of course, they all involved our favorite Carlton as well. I absolutely love that man!
Texasartchick
"Also Texas, you are very good with the guessing! That is definitely one of my favorite moments."

Always! I AM a trained observer, you know...

"It's the best piece of acting Tim's gotten to do on this show so far, in my opinion. He has wonderful comedic timing and regularly makes me laugh, but in that scene he absolutely broke my heart and made me cry. "

Yes, I always get misty during that scene too. Unfortunately the reason why is because it always reminds me of a very sad, extremely similar personal experience. But that is why I love art, it holds such power over our emotions, and everyone brings their own interpretation based on unique life experience.

"How could I not love it? As an added bonus, Victoria's finally gone! And there was much rejoicing on my part, let me tell you! "

I give you the full Monty Python "yeaaa....yeaaaaaa" for that one! I might even do a silly walk.

"I swear, if they bring her back under any circumstances besides having committed some heinous crime against humanity I'll have some a$$-kicking to do, unless Lassiter does it himself (which I highly doubt would ever happen)."

OK, you just gave me a plot idea for an episode. Victoria is accused of a crime and turns to Lassiter to prove her innocence. Can you imagine the whirlpool of feelings poor Lassiter would experience? Then at the end, having proved her innocence, she asks Lassiter for another chance, and HE TELLS HER NO. WOOT! Actually, I think that deserves a "Thundercats - HOOOO!" I'm "more than meets the eye", I tell you...

"In addition, there is the obvious wonderful moment behind the van right after Shawn is released in "Gus Walks Into a Bank." I haven't seen "Gus Walks Into A Bank" yet, so I have no idea what happens in the episode. Except it's pretty obvious that Gus gets successfully rescued or else he wouldn't still be on the show. (Trained observer, you know...) I've also heard the "You're so sexy right now!" in the Psych-outs and repeated in discussions, but so far that's all I know. I think of all the episodes I've missed of season 3, that's the episode I'm looking forward to seeing the most, cause apparently Lassiter gets to KICK SOME A$$.

Ok, I'm making an official request for the next installment of the screencap frenzy whenever it resumes. My request is for "Hurricane Mira". It contains some really nice Lassie screencap potential as well as my favorite Psych moment so far.

That moment is, of course, Tim Omundson's face-plant into the pavement during the foot chase scene. It is simply exquisite. I can watch that all day and never get tired of it. Poor guy! But it's funny as hell. That was no stunt man, it looked like an accident that they kept in the episode. (The stunt man looked like the guy they were chasing - athletic fellow!) And Tim O. even gets up and continues the scene! Loses his sunglasses and he just keeps on going. What a guy. Unfortunately that episode doesn't have any commentary for it on the DVD set. Anyone ever hear someone associated with the show mention that particular moment?

Hey, where are all my fellow TIManiacs lately? Are there that many of you in school? (The spirits are telling me "yes!")

"But that is why I love art, it holds such power over our emotions, and everyone brings their own interpretation based on unique life experience."

Okay, confession time: By leaps and bounds, the saddest movie I have ever watched is Monsters, Inc. Strange choice, I know, but the end gets me every time. I just identify with it all too well. I watch it everytime we lose one of our kids, without fail. The first time one of my kids left while I was away at school I made a trip across to the other side of town to buy the DVD when I was really pretty broke. But I needed the movie. So I completely agree with your statement.

"I give you the full Monty Python "yeaaa....yeaaaaaa" for that one! I might even do a silly walk."

I'd like to see the silly walk! I'll bet it's pretty fun... Maybe even as fun as Tim's "penguin dance" in the season 2 gag reel!

"OK, you just gave me a plot idea for an episode. Victoria is accused of a crime and turns to Lassiter to prove her innocence. It would bring up a lot for him, and as long as it doesn't lead to a second chance for her, I would love to see that episode! I can't tell you how much I would love for him to say no! And now that he's begun to say goodbye to that marriage, I think that in a couple of months he may very well be able to. Not immediately, but give it time and I think he'll gain back some of that self-confidence he used to have that didn't come from the job. As a result, he would obviously never need her again. Never. I will hold him to it!

"I haven't seen "Gus Walks Into A Bank" yet, so I have no idea what happens in the episode. Except it's pretty obvious that Gus gets successfully rescued or else he wouldn't still be on the show. Lassiter does get to kick some a$$ and he catches the bad guy in the end (off Shawn's tip, but eh, details...), but honestly the most awesome thing is that line. It's delivered from Shawn to Lassiter, thus the basis of its incredible appeal! Our boys are growing up!

I don't remember that at all! I guess I'll just have to go watch it again. Well, damn! I love his dedication, though! Go Tim!

"That was no stunt man, it looked like an accident that they kept in the episode. (The stunt man looked like the guy they were chasing - athletic fellow!) And Tim O. even gets up and continues the scene! Loses his sunglasses and he just keeps on going. What a guy. Unfortunately that episode doesn't have any commentary for it on the DVD set. Anyone ever hear someone associated with the show mention that particular moment?"

Do they maybe mention it in the writer's commentary for the episode? Because I really do think I've heard that before... I think I'll have to go check that later. And again I say, damn! The accidents and improvs (and the willingness of the entire creative and exec teams to run with them) are what really set this show apart from any other on TV right now for me.

Hey, where are all my fellow TIManiacs lately? Are there that many of you in school? (The spirits are telling me "yes!")

Yes. I don't know if that's why everybody's gone, but yes. It makes me sad.

Holy crap those ARE big gummy bears! Wonder if they come in pineapple flavor?

Looking forward to the screencaps. And where would I find the writer's commentary for "Hurricane Mira"? Is it on the IUSA web site somewhere, or the DVD set?

Is this what you were looking for?

And, now, it's time to start the screencaps! I'd try to wait for acubound, but it's getting late here. lol!

Texasartchick
"Is this what you were looking for?"

Yep! Unfortunately they don't mention the fall, but it was nice to watch anyway. I haven't watched any of the writer's commentaries, so now I have something else to tide me over until season 4 debuts. When is the debut date, anyway? Anyone know? (I'm sure you do!)

Texasartchick

Texasartchick
Almost forgot - hooray for screencaps!

I'm pretty sure they haven't given a specific date yet. I could be wrong, though. biggrin.gif
