Ack! I'm a bit sorry I had to go to bed so early... but I wanted to offer my opinion on some of the things discussed.

Either it wasn't that way around here for the couple of years I was in school before you, or I was just naive enough to not get it at the time. I really am kind of hoping for the former given that I think naivete is something that's kind of slipping away these days.
It certainly wasn't that way when I was in a public school elementary, especially in 1st grade. I do think near the end (5th/6th grade) I started learning more, but still didn't really catch on until junior high. I also think it has *very* little to do with public vs. private school. Some of the kids coming into junior high from private schools knew *FAR* more than I did.
I do think the internet is a problem though in educating children too young, even if by accident. Internet wasn't really around (to the popularity and extent that it is now) until I was well into junior high and starting high school. I think it is far too easy for kids to start their own education if they aren't being given proper supervision when they are on computers these days.

Agreed! The initial evolution of the character is most evident in "Starbucks", as that's the first time we really see his human side.
Another interesting point is made in the commentary (or commentaries) of either the Starbucks or/and Scary Sherry. I think they say that Scary Sherry was actually written *before* Starbucks (and possibly filmed as well)... so you know the end of Scary Sherry where Lassiter finds out they think he is like Goochberg and tries to join in the group, but can't, but still gets the fortune cookie? Well, if the episodes were shown in order they were written/filmed... that scene would have preceded Starbucks, and may be seen as a start for the changes in Lassiter.
Just food for though

(Yes, still a commentary fanatic).
Now off to see all the caps!!
