For some reason, this is one of my favorite pictures from this series of screencaps. It just looks so stupid when taken out of context. If you don' t know what's going on in the episode it makes you think, "what the hell?"

Texasartchick

One of the guys on my team is nicknamed "Tall-skinny". He and Tim Omundson have the same general build only my co-worker is about 6'5". I think Tim O. is also a candidate for that nickname, judging by this picture.

Here's a Tim bit (pun intended for anyone familiar with Tim Horton's which originated in Canada) from Channel Canada from July 2008.

Timothy Omundson grew up in the Seattle area so he was quite used to the Pacific Northwest climate.
“... there's so many positives to this job that that's certainly one of them is getting to be up here. My youngest daughter who's three, she's had two of her three birthdays on the beach in Kitsilano where we tend to rent a house every season. And we've spent a third of her life here, which is nice for me to get them out of L.A., and to see - 'See that, that's called a pine tree, and that's called water and those are mountains.' ... but the playground is, like, right outside our house. There's the swings, there's the ocean, there's the mountains and pine trees, and there's just nothing better in the world. Like, that view for me, is it. I have friends who grew up in Palm Springs. They love dirty brown mountains. Me, it's just that. So I'm like I get to be on a show and bring my family here and work here in this place that I love, it's pretty darn good.”

And, a random Tim pic

Texasartchick
Ok, this is one of my biggest pet peeves - lack of realistic (even basic) firearms training for actors playing police officers. Come on, producers, you should at least give them the basics! Case in point, observe the picture below:

Tim Omundson and Maggie Lawson are in the proper positions, side by side where both can shoot without "muzzling" anyone (a.k.a. pointing the barrel of your gun at the wrong person) with their weapons. But apparently no one else in the Santa Barbara PD, including Chief Vic, has received any of this training. Everyone else in that photograph is probably going to hit either Shawn, Lassiter, or Jules if they have to shoot. Especially that uniformed officer in the back right portion of the picture. Yeesh!

I have noticed, though, that Tim Omundson does a much better job than most actors of keeping his trigger finger "indexed" (off the trigger, and alongside the frame) when not actually aiming at a target. That is textbook firearms safety. Haven't observed Maggie Lawson's technique too much because I'm always looking at Tim. Shame on me. Unfortunately he does do some very real-world unsafe things, like the "Charlie's Angles" (pointing the barrel up when it's near your face) and running with the gun waving around in his hands. But he does do a much better job than most actors as far as realism. So, kudos for the attempt.

Texasartchick
Texasartchick
Continuing my last post, here's the famed "Charlie's Angles" pose I'm talking about:

If you suffer a negligent discharge of your firearm at that moment, you will be temporarily blind and deaf at best, and that's if you're lucky enough not to shoot yourself in the face. (There's no such thing as an accidental discharge, it's always a negligent discharge!)

And running with the gun waving around in his hand:

That's a big no-no! Either holster your weapon until you stop running, or keep it pointed straight down at the ground while holding it close to your body (called the "sul position"). Now, keeping this in mind, Tim Omundson did a pretty good job realistically moving down the hallway in that scene. Like I said, he's better at playing the cop than most.

I believe I have the solution - more firearms training! Make Tim happy by letting him (and all others playing cops on the show) go shoot guns with professionals. As I like to say, happiness is a warm gun. And I don't mean that metaphorically!

Hey, where is everyone tonight? My bet is folks are dying hard-boiled eggs with food coloring in preparation for egg hunts tomorrow. Now that's "old school" Easter egg coloring technique!

I've been watching season 1 Psych episodes tonight, I'm in the middle of the one with the bank robbers and buried money. I'm also looking for the episode where Lassiter's character turns the corner from the "always hate Spencer" a**hole to the more casual and Spencer-respectful one we see now. We see the first spark of respect from Lassiter at the end of the pilot (car struggle scene) where he asks Spencer, "Seriously. How?" It's definitely there in "From Earth To Starbucks", but I think he starts to soften the attitude somewhere around episode 5. Still looking...

5 more points for being able to maintain his composure and not laugh with McNabb's boxers looming in the background.

Winky_Cutto
LOL, I'm here now... I was actually *out* tonight!

As for the scene from 9 lives (with all the guns and bad firearms safety practice)... If you listen to the commentary, the producers even comment on how badly that scene played out... with a *PREGNANT* Chief Vick standing there with an officer pointing a gun at her head from behind her.

I think some of them have lives on a weekly weekend basis... unlike me who just had one for tonight. Bust I'm already drooping a bit and may have to turn in relatively soon.
Texasartchick
Ok, I'm here. Back from watching a rented movie that wasn't as good as it should have been.

Now I need to go back and listen to the commentary for "9 Lives" and see what they say about that. I haven't listened to the commentary for all episodes yet, I've been saving as much Psych material as possible to get me through the "dry spell" until Season 4 debuts. I've only watched "Game, Set....mmuuuurrder?" once, so I have that to look forward to as well.

What's on the agenda tonight ladies? I'm assuming that since Princess isn't here, there's to be no screencapping frenzy?

Um, guys, please don't take offense; but, on livejournal, there is a certain etiquette involved in using an icon (avatar) that someone other than yourself put the time and effort into creating. If you know who created it, please acknowledge their work, even if it's only in teeny tiny letters at the end of your sig.

That way, you can avoid post like this from the icon makers:

Why do people suck at giving credit?
So just a few minutes ago, I went on the official Psych website since I haven't been on it in awhile, and I went and clicked on a forum topic to see the responses people wrote. And in a couple of the users' signatures, I see icons from LJ that were being used without any sort of credit whatsoever. And one of them was MINE. The other one in that sig is mundo_fine's. And in this sig they stole snowystingray (which is freaking HILARIOUS and I personally asked if I could use it since they didn't post it at an icon community or anything). I recognize the other Lassiter icons as well, but I don't know off the top of my head who made those (but I think the first one was made early in the fandom's history). But yeah, if you go back to the first person's Photobucket account, you can see that they've taken all of these icons without any credit. So they've also stolen them from boheme06, moosewizard, sporkyadrasteia, and another user who I can't remember (they made the quote icon).

Stuff like this? TOTALLY NOT COOL. I already have to deal with the fact that people take my icons and use them on LJ without credit. (And I've felt bad whenever I tell them to go credit them since I feel like the bad cop, so I haven't done it in awhile even though I've found more offenders since.) But now I have to deal with people taking my icons on other sites? Sure, I know it's expected since some people just ignore Internet ettiquite, but it still burns me up a bit when I see it happening to people like the other users that I listed who DO deserve credit for their icons since they put so much effort into making great icons.

*****

The original post pointed out specific icons, but I've removed any identifying information because I'm not accusing anybody of anything. Just as the person who posted this is not a member of the forum, I'm sure a lot of you are not livejournal users. So, I thought I'd post this to see if we can't all get along somehow. If you don't know who made the icon, maybe if you note that fact it will cause less upset.

Sorry for the interruption. Now, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Ahh, yes the icon credit thing. Exactly why I only make my own or only use from people who don't "require" credit.

I really do encourage everyone who did not make their own icon to give credit where credit is due if it was requested... or better yet, make your own... find a good screenshot and play with the pic--photoshop or something similar is best, but many things can be done very easily in Paint. Or ask a friend to do what you want done.

The there's the other side of the debate rolleyes.gif I have made many an icon in my day and really don't care if I get credit of not... "time and effort" is a loose term for playing with photoshop. It is not a job to play with photos of your favorite characters, so I don't really get the whole "Give me credit thing"--but that is just my opinion. I also always laugh because we are taking other people's work (the photographers, cameramen, producers, directors, *actors* work) and not crediting their work... we find pics from Google and use as we please to make icons. Why should I get credit for someone else's work because I made it into a 100x100 format and maybe added some words or played with computer effects? I once made a *kickass* House icon where I took a lot of time to take the House logo and place it into the otoscope/opthalmascope of House--and I didn't ask credit on that, even for the time it took... because neither the logo or that camera shot of House were mine, because if anyone was going to get credit for that, everyone should. (Oh, you can also get lots of icons from Google--and it isn't like Google attaches credit... so it's the downfall of making good icons I guess.)

But that's just my opinion on it and my own icons... you need to follow the wishes of who made it.

Seriously, if any of you want an icon from a screencap and don't know how... let me know. I only have Paint, and can no longer do cool effects, but am willing to do something up if you ask. Assuming Princess doesn't mind me nabbing her screenshots to do so wink.gif
AdoptAPetToday
mmk well i dont have any icons in my signature. but does that mean i should have credited all the ones i posted a little while ago, just to show the adorable ones i found on the site turtle sent? if so, im sorry ill go get the information.

As far as icons go:

I'm a fairly simple person, so I like to keep my posts simple and free of visual clutter. I don't bother using icons because it's just easier not to bother with it. That plus I have no idea how to use or create them. So my techno-ignorance is good for something, I guess.

The lack of emoticons is deliberate, though. I've never liked them. I feel I can get the proper reaction from readers with words alone, but that's just me.

TV Alert for all TIManiacs:

TNT will air "Starship Troopers" on Monday, April 13 in which Mr. Omundson plays a psychic in a TV commercial (it's only about 5 seconds long)

Wednesday, April 15 - AETV will air the CSI:Miami episode "Prey", with Tim Omundson as (I think) a lawyer.

Happy viewing!

You've wondered about it too, huh? I thought I was the only one!

I maintain that he is allergic to pineapple. Since I'm convinced of that, that means the pineapple in his grocery bag must be for Shawn (Seriously, can he be anywhere a pineapple is not for an extended period of time? I think not.) Also, I don't know about anyone else but I definitely am going to say that the pineapple-printed to-go cup left on Lassie's desk (Fire episode I think?) probably had some variety of pineapple juice in it. (Melted smoothie, maybe?) Even if it isn't, it's definitely got a yellow-cloudy look going on, so I'll continue to go that route. Since I believe Lassiter is allergic to pineapple, I'm going to say it's Shawn's, too. And since he obviously did not immediately discard it, I'm going to say he didn't mind it being there. Because I can. And no one can prove me wrong. biggrin.gif

LOL, yes. I'm seriously one with the pineapple allergy fanon. Someone once mentioned that pineapple and mint have the same base properties (don't know if that is correct or not), but I like it for further evidence.

And I think that cup had to be Shawn's too... I mean, why would Lassie have a pineapple cup unless it belonged to Shawn?
