Disclaimer: I do not own SVU. The only thing I own is this story. (Actually, part of it was inspired by a movie, so even the story isn't totally mine, is it? LOL)
AN: As I mentioned in the Disclaimer, this story was inspired by a movie. I was watching it and thought to myself, "It'd be interesting to write an SVU story with the same basic concept. Hmmmmm....". And thus, this story was born. Not sure how many chapters it's going to be. It depends on how many it takes to get the general idea across, I guess. (BTW, if you figure out what movie I was watching at the time, you get a virtual cookie.
Oh, and I kinda guessed at the "11th street" part. I don't know if there is really an 11th street in Manhattan, but for the sake of the story, we'll pretend there is. LOL
Enough of my ramblings. On with chapter one.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Kathy stopped at the red light. She tapped her fingers on the steering wheel as she waited for the light to switch to green. She was on her way home from the store. Kathy knew her husbond could be called in at any time, so she hoped she'd be home before that happened.
The light changed and Kathy again headed for home. Her cell phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Kath. It's me. Cap. wants me at the station as soon as possible."
Kathy sighed.
"Ok. I'm on my way."
"Ok. See you when you get home. I love you."
"Love you too, El."
Kathy hung up her phone. She pushed a little more on the gas. As she turned the corner, bright headlights blinded her as her car was hit head on.

Four Years Later
Captain Elliot Stabler fixed the cuff of his suit. He adjusted his tie and dusted off some lint on his sleeve. He was preparing to interview applicants for the new live-in caretaker. The Stabler family had been through sixteen care takers since Kathy's death, adveraging about three months per caretaker.
Elliot had become used to hiring new caretakers every so often. He honestly didn't know how long each one would last, but he knew it wouldn't take too long for them to quit.
Captain Stabler walked into the living room. He looked at his watch. The first applicant was due to be there in ten minutes.
-----
Applicant number one sat in the chair across from Elliot. Her name was Gretchen Sanders. She was 65 years old, and she seemed a bit odd.
"So have you had experiances taking care of children before?"
"Oh, I'd love some cookies. Thank you, Dear."
Elliot raised an eyebrow.
"Thank you, Miss Sanders. That'll be all."
Elliot helped her out of the door and into a cab. He shook his head as he prepared for applicant number two.
-----
Amila Diaz now occupied the chair Gretchen Sanders occupied an hour ago. Not only was Diaz late, she was eyeing the house like she was a potential buyer.
"So how patient would you say you are?"
Diaz, chewing her gum, looked at him.
"I'd say I'm pretty patient, but the state don't think so."
"The state?"
"Yeah, they said I had an extremely short fuse. That's why my ex has custody of our kids."
Elliot thanked her for her time and escorted her out the door.
-----
Over the course of the day, Elliot interview over a dozen applicants, each with their own "unique characteristics". He began to wonder if his kids had ran off every good caretaker avalible in New York. He sighed and took a drink of his scotch. He had one more applicant left for the day.
Fifteen minutes later, there was a knock at the Stabler's door. Elliot opened it. A tall brunette woman with chocolate brown eyes entered the room.
"Hello. My name is Olivia Benson. I'm here about the caretaker position."
She smiled. Elliot smiled back and nodded. She walked to the chair and took a seat. Elliot sat in the chair across from her.
"Now, Miss Benson. Have you ever had experiance working with children before?"
"Yes. I worked for the children's shelter on south 11th street."
Elliot nodded.
"So I take it the shelter was your last employer?"
"Yes, Sir."
"How long did you work with them?"
"Three years."
"What was the reason for your departure?"
"Budget cuts. They had to let go of four higher paid employees."
Elliot nodded.
"So would you say your a patient person?"
Olivia nodded.
"At the shelter, I worked with children from various backgrounds; Some of which were very troubled. I've worked with abused children of all kinds, mentally and physically handicapped children, and even delinquent children with records. I've never lost my cool with any of the children."
Elliot nodded. She sounded perfect. After he asked a few more questions, he told her he'd be in touch.
-----
The next day, after he checked Olivia for a criminal record, he called her to inform her she had gotten the job.

So? What do you all think so far? I will update as often as I can. It all depends on how much time I have to write and when I'll be able to type the chapters up. It will most likely be on weekends, but I don't know. So if you like this, don't give up on it.
If you read, please leave a review. Reviews make me smile.
(For the USAboard members. I know I said I didn't want any open stories in the process of my move, but I just couldn't help myself.
