Full Version: Your favorite summation

I know this may be an odd question, but what is your favorite instance of Monk summing up the case for everybody?

Mine is actually a false summation. I am talking about "Mr. Monk and the Garbage Strike" when he accuses Alice Cooper of killing a man for his wing backed chair and starts using all these crazy rhymes. I almost died.

So what is your favorite summation?
Jenn
Gee, this is a toughie because there are so many good ones. However, If I had to chose one I would say the end of Cabin Fever when Monk and Randy are giving simultaneous summations. I just loved that.

I love this one, too! It's hilarious! laugh.gif

The Alice Cooper summation was my favorite too! I was cracking up the entire time.

It's also fun when the other characters get to do it.

I loved all the ones mentioned here. Alice Cooper, especially. He was such a sport! But my favorite, because it's overly Monkified is Mr. Monk Goes to Mexico and Doesnt Drink A Thing!... I might have mis-typed the title, but anyway, he's dry, raspy and wheezing, explsining two impossible murders while he packs and runs for the border, literally. They were chasing the car to thank him.

A classic 10 out of 10 Monk moment in my most humble opinion.

...

And it wasnt 'the drugs'!!!

Mandeville,

That is one of my favorite lines from Monk, "It's the drugs. It's always about the drugs." laugh.gif

I love how they try to keep all of the summations different so you never know what to expect! There are a lot of good ones, but my favorites that I can think of right off the bat is Mr. Monk Visits a Farm, where he whispers it to a snoozing Randy, only to have Randy tell everybody else himself, and Mr. Monk Get Drunk. "Hey, CAPPY! Cap'n Stottlemeyer, HOMICIDE!" That was priceless. When he goes over and fools with Stottlemeyer's mustache during that scene, you can see Ted Levine trying hard not to laugh, and he doesn't quite succeed. laugh.gif

Hi Bubba here, my favorite summation would be from the pilot.

Just like with the mountain lion who killed the boy last year. Somehow... It was about the drugs.

lol-ol.

While I find them all fantastic, my favorite has to be "Gets Drunk". How they keep from falling all over each other LOL'ing--out loud--I just don't know. Think Harvey Corman, and Carol Burnett with Tim Conway in just about any situation. I, for one, would be ROTFLMAO all day every day. laugh.gif

I have a few favorites, all for different reasons:

~ "Mr. Monk Gets Drunk" - oh my gosh that has me LOL out loud sooooo hard!! Especially the Monk-Stott moments: "Cappy! Ladies and gentlemen, Leland Stottlemeyer - Homicide!!!" and "Cappy, you made it. (touching his moustache) I gotta get me one of those." Also when he drinks the coffee and places it on top of the lamp "keep that warm."

~ "Mr. Monk and the Candidate" - just how he puts the guy on the spot in front of everyone (I especially liked the line about the balloons and how the guy couldn't see where the guy shot from).

~ "Mr. Monk and the Kid" - so sweet how he uses the summation like a bedtime story to Tommy and then explains what will happen to the relationship between them.

~ "Mr. Monk and the Sleeping Suspect" - not just the summation, but how the guy planned that entire murder was brilliant.

~ "Mr. Monk Goes to a Rock Concert" - just because he's straining to tell Stott, Disher and Natalie what happened while the music is going on. Then, when he's finished and the music ends, he says "oh my gosh, I can't hear anything. I think I've gone deaf" and Natalie says "No, Mr. Monk, the song is over."

~ Almost forgot another one: "Mr. Monk Takes His Medicine" - when he's riding his new car with Sharona and he's trying to tell Stott what happened and throughout the summation he's scolding Sharona "A stop sign is not a suggestion!! Trolley!! Trolley!!"

The Alice Cooper, and "Gets Drunk" summations are extremely funny!!!!!!!!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Another cool one is from "Mr. Monk and the Earthquake." Even though he's talking "gibberish," you still know what he's saying! laugh.gif
justanothermonkfan
Ahhh there's so many good ones.

I liked Mr. Monk and the Kid, the storybook "Here's what happened" was probably one of the nicest summations.

The Mr. Monk Gets Drunk summation was HILARIOUS. When he fell over, that made me LOL out loud.

And Mr. Monk and the Garbage Strike was always good, I'm pretty sure the garbage fumes got to his head on that one.

I just recently watched Mr. Monk and the Billionare Mugger on the site, and I liked how Monk kept asking Sharona if she wanted to tell the summation. laugh.gif

I love that one too. Mr.Monk and the biggest fan, when she tries to give him a clue hug during his summation.

This is mine, too. Marcie says, "You have to say, 'This is what happened!' "and makes Monk start the summation over. biggrin.gif

Monks summation in Vegas was pretty funny . . . he kept playing Blackjack while giving the "here's what happened" . . . "Hit Me!" laugh.gif

I liked the one where Mr. Monk was being hidden on a lake as a witness to a crime. He is summarizing the murder that he witnessed on the lake while Randy is summarizing how his new girlfriend tricked him with fortune cookie -- both during a shootout with gang members who want to keep Monk from testifying!

Someone asked Stottlemeyer: "Which one are you listening to?" and he answered: "Neither one."

The antique wingback Cusack chair!

Well, of course he didn't take it... it had a bullet hole, and blood all over it!

Dunno how I missed this thread...mellow.gif

1. The one in Cabin Fever where he and Randy are giving their summations all at once and the cop guy asks Stot: "Which one are you listening to?" And he replies dryly, "Neither." laugh.gif

2. The "fake" summation in garbage strike with Alice Cooper. OMG! I can't listen to an Alice Cooper song without thinking about that, believe me, I've tried. It's not easy.

3. In "On The Air" where he says to the DJ. "Your not laughing now, are you?" "No, I'm not laughing." "Join the club." Sooo tough and powerful.

First of all, I don't think that's his real name. Alice?

I love all the ones mentioned for all the great reasons everyone gave!! I especially love the one in "Mr. Monk Gets Drunk!!"
Chacal
I enjoyed "Mr. Monk goes to Mexico" a lot, just couldn't stop laughing when captain had to chase Monk's car to thank him.

"Mr. Monk gets drunk" was a hilarious summation as well!
Monk: thanks for.. thanks for... that... what's that? (toutching Stott's moustache)

I just realized that I bumped this thread because someone in another started talking about summations, but I never posted mine:

Like many, I like the Alice Cooper false summation in Garbage Strike. I also think the summation in Get's Drunk is hysterical -- and I like the split-screen summation in Cabin Fever.

Also of note is the story-book summation in Mr. Monk and the Kid. I think that is really cute.

I liked the timed summation in Big Game -- when he has to do it all during the time out, and the clock is going in the background.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Monk do the whole summation without moving his lips in "Office"? I loved the dialog when Monk surmises people will think they're in love, and Natalie says it looks more like an industrial accident. That cracked me up.

And the summation in gibberish in Earthquake...

And the summation with the clown in Circus...

And the summation in the dark with the flashlights in Panic Room...

And the summation in the speeding convertible in Takes His Medicine

And the summation in Vegas, when he's doing it while playing several simultaneous hands of black jack.

And I like that he let Randy do the summation in Visits a Farm.

I hope they don't run out of ideas -- I LOVE a good summation.

Yes, it was in the Office.

My favorites are:

Mr Monk Goes to Mexico - how Tony played the thirsty Monk and how Adrian messed his words, and then rushed to to back and get out from the country.

Mr Monk Gets Gabin Fever - Randy and Monk told what happened - at the same time.

Mr Monk Goes to Vegas - simultaneously playing Black Jack and making the summation.

Mr Monk and the Kid - the sweetest summation; when Adrian was going to tell the bed-time story to Tommy, he suddenly realized with Tommy´s help, what happened and changed the children story to ´Here is what happened´ -story and ´Here is what is going to happen´ -story.

Mr Monk Gets Drunk - the most original and hilarious drunkeness in the tv history.

My favorite summations were probably Cabin Fever and Gets Drunk. In Cabin Fever I thought it was hilarious how Monk and Disher do the summation together and the police officer asked the Captain which one he is listening to, and he says neither. That was hilarious. My other favorite summation was in Gets Drunk. Mr. Monk does the whole summation drunk! Tony did a great job of acting drunk while playing out the whole summation. I was laughing so hard! The sweetest summation, I have to agree, is Mr. Monk and the Kid. Mr. Monk is reading Tommy a story, and solves the case, kisses him on the head, and realizes Tommy would never be happy living at Mr. Monk's house, and that for Tommy to be happy, Monk would have to give him up...so sad.

oooooh, that reminds me BfloGal, I've got some trivia about the 'clown' summation - betcha' can't guess the other 2 parts the actor playing the clown has done on Monk. He's surprisingly good looking - well, the first time I saw him he was in clown make-up, but the 2nd time, mmmmm!

The story book summation nearly didn't happen, will try and remember to update this in the trivia thread.

One of my favourites - and it's not really a summation, but pretty close - is in 'Mr. Monk and the Leper' when Natalie realises she has made contact with an actual leper and Adrian realises he hasn't: "He's not a leper", "He is a leper", "My leper?", "No, my leper!"

He played the car salesman in Takes his Medicine. (but I admit I cheated -- I IMDB'd him)

But I got a kick from the Circus episode when I realized they named the circus after Dratch. His name keeps popping up. It was Dratch Valley where the fire occured in Big Game.

He's cute eh? He also played the bingo card checker in 'The Three Pies'. Lance has worked with Tony before, that's how he got the parts, that plus Tony thinks he plays annoying extremely well.

I didn't realise that Dan Dratch and Rachel Dratch were brother and sister. It was months after 'The Granny' ep aired when I saw a pic of Dan Dratch in the writers room and thought he looked liked Rachel. It was months after that I finally looked it up to make the connection - I would really not make a good detective smile.gif

All of the ones mentioned are great! I love the summation variations!

It is so hard to pick a favorite summation because there are sooooo many good ones. (Also, my decidophobia prevents me from picking just one.) However, I am partial to the one in Mr. Monk and the Kid; it was so touching. I also LOL out loud on Mr. Monk Gets Cabin Fever.

I completely agree with BfloGal who said, "I hope they don't run out of ideas -- I LOVE a good summation."

Absolutely Mr. Monk vs. The Cobra when he is telling the summation to Trudy when he was about 20 minutes from dying in the coffin and then Stottlemeyer and the team found him alive and smiling. I was in tears!

I have many other favorites, but that one is the saddest with the tender kiss at the end! I love Trudy's comment about Monk being a great father. Question: Do you think it would be a good idea if Trudy was pregnant at the time of her death?

My fave part was when Randy let Monk let Randy tie the evidence for the crime.

BTW I also liked the summation on Actor...wait, that was Randy, too.

I just love it when they give my Eagle Scout a li'l something to do.
