I have a question. After talking to a reporter from the local newpaper, the question asked by him was this. What web site does this fan-base go to when they want to share information on the various activities. I explained that we have been using the host message board on the USA network web site for one of the main locatons. I also explained the other sites are also being used such as "Save the 4400" web site. I asked in earlier messages, why doesn't the 4400 fans have a single web site with all the linked sites on it. I explained to him "I was supprised that the executives at the USA networks hadn't pulled the plug on the message board by now." If they did, then what? This stuff should be centralized, protected and the masses told about it. Get everyone on one page. I said this before, I stumbled onto this web site and had to dig for just about everything related to this effort. If I were a computer wiz I'd already put up a web site. I'd hate to have the rug pulled out from under this. Any comments?

There has been discussion about this to an extent, but we have decided that we wanna use this site as our main base of operations and try and get people to join here rather than move onto a whole new forum. There has been so much going on here to simply move to another board. I'm certainly not saying that I can't accept the possibility, but "logistically it would be difficult" tongue.gif

Hi Bubba here, I don't think this forum is going anyways as long as USA still airs the repeats of The 4400.

Besides, what do they have to gain by shutting it down? They probably would have to spend more time, effort and money closing it than leaving it alone.

I guess we can just cross our fingers and hope that it doesn't happen. The petition to save the 4400 has just went over the 18 thousand signatures. Wow! The countries represented are Russia, China, Guam, Sweden, Argentina, Turkey, Australia and Croatia just to name a few. over 35 contries in all. And it continues to grow. The one thing that I continue to notice is that there are people every day that sign the petition (today included) and remark that they have just found out the show was cancelled. They have know idea that this web site/USA Network forum exists. So back to my point. If the masses aren't aware of this site then we are not all on "one Page". So we take the risk of losing the site at the whim of the network and we are not unified. Heck, a lot of people don't know this site exist. If you want seeds in the tens of thousands then get everyone on board.

One last thing. With the following for this show, I should be able to post a message and come back in 5 hours and find the message read by 200 people. It isn't happening. I keep seeing the same people working the issues and making the same decisions. It wouldn't hurt to get more people on board with this. I wonder if they even knew about the sunflower seed campaign. Just imagine if all of them had been involved. Instead of 6 thousand pounds you might have had 25 thousand pounds.

Casual viewers do not follow the show as closely as hard-core fans. The show airs in different countries, so there are fans from different countries. How is any of this surprising?

Casual viewers are not likely to put much effort into any fan campaign, though.

Ratings are measured in millions of viewers, not pounds.

Alex, I know this, so what's the point. Get to the point. Say something that has content. What are you doing to make things happen except set in front of your computer screen and comment on others messages. Make a phone call or start a web site, something that counts.

Exactly. Making a phone call or starting a web site is not something that counts, as proven again and again.

Getting The 4400 back is going to take more time, and a very different approach.

Well, from my television experience if a show is canned-- it doesn't come back.

Furthermore, from those that DO/DID come back, it came back relatively soon.

Guess I can't remember any shows that came back after a couple years of cancellation.

So I don't think waiting is the best option, per se. Even if that is the key, the fan campaign doesn't hurt the chances at this point in time. It shows they have a preexisting fan base (That's why Christian Rock does so well!), and if they brought it back they'd safely assume our viewership. Devoted fans are great for shows-- it's free publicity.

Of course, one could say that they will never bring it back since they would be embarassed to do so. That would be admitting they were wrong, and/or defeated.

Can't be certain what people think though.

Alex-just go away-you are not helping anyone with your comments-go over to the Monk site and share your joy. Monk is not canceled so you will have to find a new avenue to pick on.

Hi there 'Quofi'. I think your right, but I do think Star Trek came back after being gone for a couple years. It was just TWO fans that started the grassroots movement, and look at it now tongue.gif I wasn't quite sure when you said "waiting" Did you mean even though we are not "waiting" per se because of all the things we've been doing, but we are willing to wait if we have too. If that's what you meant, Yeah I get it! Also as far as the USA Network being embarrassed if they bring the show back , or hesitant because of admitting they were "Wrong" Then that would mean they have a conscience, and well, as we see They don't!! mad.gif How Sad is that??? So at least we don't have to worry about that being in the way of our campaign biggrin.gif Take care cool.gif

Star Trek enjoyed a long run of successful movies several years after being cancelled because it had a chance to find a bigger audience in syndication reruns during those years. It was not a fan campaign.

When the ratings for Enterprise went down, the network cancelled it. There was a fan campaign for that, too. They even collected money. Did that "save" the show? Clearly, no. Next year they are releasing a new movie. If it is successful, they will make more. It is as simple as that.

You keep making this personal. This is business. The network cancelled the show because it was not bringing as much money as they wanted, not because they wanted to be "mean" to you.

Alex you are a Monk Lover-go to the Monk site!

Hi,'djacobs' I must agree, I think your point is well taken and is something that needs to be addressed. I would like to keep it here on the board, and as 'Bubba' said they probably will keep this up as long as they show repeats. But like you said what IF? I agree with 'Bubba' I think they will, but.......

Also your point of having a central place to tell someone (new) or just curious, there does NEED to be a place to be able to tell them "yes just go to......" and look it up. Remember peoples attention span theses days are about as long as "sound bites" on TV laugh.gif

The other thing about keeping it here on the board is fine BUT it has to be user friendly. Sometimes even I'm not quite sure where to go, or have to remember which threads I've been on to check back for responses or latest UPDATES unsure.gif . I do know when I tell people to go "here" or to YouTube I feel like I'm confusing them more than directing exactly where they need to go that would be the quickest, easiest and most effective for them.

I'm not sure what you mean by a separate web site? To me this board is very important, but it is equally important to have One place to tell "your reporter" or "whomever" where to look up this most important movement. You said you just "happened" upon this site, well that is not good. We need to be more ........ (fill in the blank tongue.gif ) The other thing about having this on a message board, the posts get so long, and the Thread doesn't stay on top, for the curious to get to as quickly as possible and most won't spend alot of time looking for the correct place. Of course that is just my limited experience, with message boards..

I love these people here (most anyway smile.gif ) and they, we, are working so hard that we need to be as effective as possible. Also did you say, or someone, that the petition signing is up to 18,000??? and some didn't even know the show had been canceled?? Besides reaching the base of people we want to help us in this campaign, we obviously need to reach other fans.

One more thing, I do think it would be good and useful to have a place to go to & ask a question or comment and come back later and see if there was a response. Well that's my Two Cents, well more like 300 cents biggrin.gif . Sorry so long
djacobs
Heart, you are correct in your interpretation of my message. All I'm trying to do is muster some initiative. Alex made some good points and not so good points. He obvisouly has his facts right but appears to have other motives. He's a good "counter" to some of what I've been saying but only to the point of stating what can't be done. Bubba caught me early on with the negative campaign and I've been trying to get it going in the right direction. But you can sure bet that after the sunflower seeds this campaign will fall flat on it's face without other intitatives. And I'm even ready for a fourth mailing if that is what folks want to do. I've been around since there has only been 3 channels and a pair of rabbit ears on the black and white set, so I've seen them come and go. Even lost in space when it first aired and to if final episode. So this is nothing new for me. But this show was the best there was and I have to believe the executives would bring it back knowing this. And they do know this. So more than 18 thousand people will have to speak up at one time to get their attention. Or it will not work. So we will have to start advertising or we will not succeed. The USA Network is guilty of that, lets not follow in their footsteps.
