Hasn't anyone else noticed that the show no longer uses the fake psychic trance gag anymore? It was great fun to watch, where has it gone and why. The program suffers without it.

Yeah! I did. And that was one thing that I really loved about the show. I've benn watching old episodes from season 1 and he no longer has his 'episodes', as Lassie would say!

Well, it could just be that Shawn has matured since the first season. He's established a form of respect with his peers, and doesn't really need the psychic vibe as much as he used to.
Or he's just being lazy.
You just never know.

He had a bunch in the earlier part of Season 2. In fact, he did it three times in Zero to Murder in 60 Seconds, which was probably one of my least favorite aspects of the episode. I think they definitely needed to take a break after that one.

yeah there are alot of aspects to it, though they are fun to watch there may be reasons for it
1. since the writer strike it could be that they did those episodes without the writers to help with it
2. it could be a hint to later season 3 episodes that center around the fact that someone is going to see through the fake psychic thing to amp up the plot
3. it could just be that Shawn, like it was said, is just maturing as a character
though there was an allusion to the slip up of no psychic ability in Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Piece when he was solving the computer theft at the school with the secretary's signature in season 1

I agree that it seems the writers are moving away from that. They need to remember that the name of the show is "Psych". That's what made it so funny in the first place.
Any insight as to why the last few episodes haven't been added to the USA Network online yet? They're normally posted by the following Sunday and it seems to be behind schedule.
Also can't wait for Burn Notice. If you didn't give it a chance last season, you missed out on a great show.

Could it also be that it was never Shawns intention in the first place to play psychic, that was just a quick excuse to get out of a sticky situation, and to follow that, he only used "episodes" to get out of problems in which usually someone like Lassiter was about to knock him out, rofl.
I'd say most of the cast lets him speak more nowadays.

I notice it also. In order to make myself feel that the show is not losing it's magic, I tend to believe like some others have said, that the show has evolved. If you think realistically, you can't have him acting the same way every time. The first season was more focused on getting him to convince everyone that he really truly was psychic. Lassie, Chief Vick, and even Juliet had their doubts but he kept it up to the full extent. Now this season, he is more "accepted" by the department because he gets cases solved. I think that they have come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter if he's pyschic or not, he helps us out. But, on the other hand, that IS what the show is all about and if they veer away from the psychic moments it loses it's flair. Shawn still has his "moments" cause the chief told him if she ever found out he was faking she'd come after him. I also have told myself that we as fans, have to realize that each season will not be the same. Season One will always be the most dramatic because we were all getting to know Shawn and his abilities. But, I think if they stray away from the episodes it will lose it's spunk too. I don't know what the solution should be really. I don't know how long the psychic charade can last. I do miss it though.

Hey, the reason Shawn pretended to be psychic is to get out of sitting in a holding cell. Remember, Lassiter truly believed that Shawn was the inside man to the Vision Store Robberies. He was telling them that read the guy's guilt through the interview the guy gave the reporter. I mean, would they believe him if he said, "I am ultra-observant and have tendencies to notice little things?" Lassiter never will be Shawn's dog and pony show, especially if they are over the top. Shawn maybe tone them (the visions) down in hopes that Lassie will admit that he does have a gift, whether it is psychic or not.

Lassie did admit Shawn was pretty much the man... though it was halfway through a bottle of Glenlivet. LOL

I noticed this as well. I don't know, it seems to me that you can't have a show titled Psych if he drops the whole psychic act.

yeah, their has been alot of talk about this over in the Criticism thread. I hope the psychic act comes back.
That's what made the show work in the first place.

It's not like he is dropping the psychic act. They're just changing the way he does it so it's not the same thing over and over again. As long as he's still finishing peoples' sentences, guessing the case before the chief tells him, and little things like that, I'll be happy. Quite honestly, the flailing around was getting old.

I agree, he's never stopped the psychic bit. I'm sure there will be upcoming cases where he has more dramatic "episodes".

as long as they can keep his "episodes" fresh...i have no problem w/ that but i think the thing that makes a show great is when ur like oh they should do this and then they do and u get rites to say i told em so...it mite be just me tho =) but this is NOT in anyway critisism i luv this show and will watch eps. over and over which is wierd cause i have like a super short attention span =D
