Who would you like to see play Shawn's mom? Bringing her into the mix could make for some interesting episodes if they pick the right person.

Yes, I was thinking about Joanne Kerns or Jane Seymour. Another actress who popped into my mind is Sharon Lawrence. But I will allow the casting department to decide. Whoever they chose will have to have good banter between James and Corbin.

I had a feeling that the mom was going to join the show when I saw the flash back. As far as I know that was the first time they showed his mom in the flash backs. Isn't it always just his dad? Anyway the towel on her head kind of bothered me, as I don't know anyone who relaxes and watches TV with a towel wrapped around their head. This however lets them hire anyone for the roll, as her face was blurry. Later on when I saw his dad washing out the cabinets and wanting to talk to Sean in private I knew the mom was coming. Why would he do all that cleaning other wise? Can't wait to see who the mom is.

[Sharon Gless would RULE as shawn's mom -- okay, bear with me. I was watching some reruns from the late 70's and I remember thinking that the younger sharon gless has a VERY strong resemblance in her character appearance to Jules --- I'm not saying that Sharon as a person and Maggie as a person act the same, but for the characters, I saw a lot of the same serious yet bubbly traits.

And it could go add some of the Shawn/Jules attraction if he starts connecting Jules' personalities to his mom.

Wow, that is a tough call. I just don't know. What does everyone picture in their minds as far as what type of mother she was or what her personality was??? I seem to picture someone middle of the road, more on the serious side if that makes any sense. It would obviously have to be some one that Shawn relates to well and Henry would butt heads with. I think we will find out why they split and who the cause of the split was. I really hope they pick a good actress. No one too bubbly though, Kate Segall reminds me too much of Mrs. Bundy and that doesn't mix with Henry, but her looks are okay.

How about Cybill Shepherd from Moonlighting fame!?

I don't know. But she'd have to have the personality to fall in love with Henry, be sensitive and level-headed with Shawn, and leave Henry.

Sharon Gless is already a mom on another USA series. She is Michael Weston's mom (Jeffery Donovan) on the series "Burn Notice". I like the idea of having Sela Ward, but like I said before, I will leave it up to casting.

The reason I was thinking Katey Segal was because she's played motherly roles like in Married with Children and 8 Simple rules, but she's also the voice of Leela in Futuarama, and had a nifty little role in Lost, so she reminds me of more or less a 'cool mom', which I think would fit.

Katey Segal sounds pretty good.

It'll be interesting to see this. I'm sure whoever they cast/have cast, cause I'm pretty sure the role has been cast already, works well with James and Corbin.

It's really hard to know who should play her because I don't even know what she's like, you know? I'm stumped. But a lot of these are good ideas!

Again, I will leave it up to casting; but I love Annette O'Toole. Whoever they pick must blend between James and Corbin and must be reasonable enough to be Shawn's mom. I mean, I was mad when Monk cast his father. The actor is only seven years older than Tony, and easily could not be his father. I had nothing against him; but everyone complain about the age difference. I don't what that to happen here.

Anyway, so the popular suggestion at IMDB is Erin Gray. She was in both Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and played Ricky's mom in Silver Spoons, both of which could provide countless 80's references for the writers.

Me too. And as far as I remember, Shawn's mom was never seen in his flashbacks, although once or twice she was mentioned.

Bear with me here, I know that there was a lot of joking on the commentaries, but if you listened to spelling bee, you would notice that it was said, "the surf board in Henry's garage will be explained in season 3". Just a little guess that Shawn's mom might have been a surfer! What's everyone else think?

Meredith Baxter was great mom in Family Ties. But I'd like to see an actress with dark hair since Shawn has dark hair.

I think it's great they are bringing Shawn's mom to the story line, does anyone know who the actress will be? On a disappointed note, I was really disturbed by the swearing on the season finale. My kids love this show and we were shocked.
