I am a long time dog lover and owner and every time I see a dog show on i never see the American Pit Bull Terriers. The westmister has every other working dog except the american pit bull terrier! this breed is no different then the rotweiler, huskey, mastiff, ect. that you guys show and NO they are NOT any more aggressive the the previous breeds i named. I am VERY dissappointed because these dogs would be so perfect for show. They listen better then any other breed they are very loyal and have a very nice ody and shape to them. I just wanted to let everybody know that this breed is not to be forgotten. Has everybody forgotten that the APBT is an American breed and an National icon. The Target Store dog is an ancestor to the APBT. So next time you guys are watching these prissy dog shows remember the real breeds in need, the forgotten ones. the APBT is not a 'fighting', 'aggressive', 'mean' dog they are just like the rotweiler, the mastiff, the doberman, the great dane and so on. just REMEMBER

The APBT is not recognized by the American Kennel Club and therefore cannot be shown at Westminster or any other AKC show.

APBT's are indeed a wonderful breed of dog, but the fact that they can't compete at AKC events isn't based upon the bad rap they're getting these days. APBT's have a HUGE following in UKC events. Log onto the UKC site and look up events held in your area. There are four different Bull Terrier varieties recognized by the AKC. To be honest, even after 30+ years experience showing dogs, I can't give you the exact reason that AKC doesn't recognize APBT, other than that the APBT Association is also huge and might not want to be recognized by AKC at this time (there are LOTS of breeds that do not want recognition from the AKC). Please rest assured that the AKC community of dog show fanciers are going to bat against breed specific legislation and the banning of ANY breed (Rotties, Mastiffs, Saints, Great Danes, etc., are also maligned these days). The only reason that they are not included in WKC coverage is that they aren't recognized by the AKC registry. Hope this helps clear up your disappointment!
