How You Can Help

Whether you live in the U.S.A. or Zimbabwe, you can help. The following list contains things you can do to help. If any other people have more ideas, I will be happy to update it. These ideas were not created by me, just trying to consolidate to help people.

1. Sign the petition. Anybody can do this.

The largest petition should be signed first, which is found at http://www.savethe4400.com/ . There are several other petitions and I will only point out to one other, the one on these very forums: http://forums.usanetwork.com/index.php?showtopic=393722 . To respond to the USA Network Forum petition in the proper format, please either: 1) Copy the previous participants list, click "Add reply", paste the list, then add yourself at the bottom OR 2) "Quote" the previous participant, click "Add Reply" then at the beginning AND end of the message delete the quote parameters, add your name to the bottom and post it.

2. Send Sunflower Seeds. Anybody can do this.

March 3, 2008 Seed Count: 8,200 according to Giants Sunflower Seeds !

If you do not live in the United States, don't worry. We have partnered with a wonderful company, Giant Seeds. Visit their website at http://www.giantseeds.com/save-the-4400.html to see their available option. I suggest purchasing a case of seeds, as you get a lot more bang for the buck, or Euro, or whatever your currency may be. You should send your seeds to the following address:

[ Feb 26 2008 --Please Note: There is current discussion within this forum about refocusing our efforts. This would mean possibly sending Sunflower Seeds and other signs of support to other people/places rather than to Bonnie Hammer. Please look for topics referencing this discussion, or reply here if you have questions about this. I will update it once we have secured a consensus ]

Bonnie Hammer
USA Network
30 Rockefeller Plaza
21st Floor
New York, NY 10112

USA Network Phone Number: 212-413-5577

Alternatively, if you live in the United States, it may be more economical for you to go to the grocery store and purchase sunflower seeds. In general, the cheapest sunflower seeds are "loose" and often found in the section with other "loose" candies and nuts which you scoop up and they charge by weight. You can get a flat-rate priority box for free from the post office and fill one up, then send it off (I do not know approximate shipping charges).

A great member of our community has created a pledge campaign over at Youchoose. If you'd like to participate and pledge to send seeds and do all that you can do to help save The 4400, I suggest you sign up. You may do so by going to http://www.youchoose.net/user/register?des...n=node%2F327790 -- This will lead you to a quick signup page. You verify your account by clicking on a link to your email. If you were not redirected to the pledge page, you can find it at http://www.youchoose.net/campaign/save_the_4400

3. Contact the Network. Anybody can do this, please read.

In my opinion, I believe physical snail-mail will be the most effective. But do not worry, if you do not live inside the country you can still send an e-mail to the network to show your support for the show.

For snail-mail, use the address above (Minus the phone number at the bottom).

For e-mail, visit http://www.usanetwork.com/feedback/ and scroll to the bottom of the page. On this form enter in your name and other information, in the "State" field you can enter in "Other/Not in the U.S." – Topic: USA Network Programming – Program: The 4400. Then enter in a message of support in the message field.

For faxing, you can send your faxes to two different numbers. These are not to the USA Network directly, but they are both owned by NBC who owns the USA Network-- it can help.
+1 (212) 664-3890 (NBC Universal/Sci Fi Channel)
+1 (201) 735-3630 (NBC Universal Cable)

Some people are not good with words. Do not worry. Consider speaking from the heart, as unique emails and letters will be the best, but if you can not do that, for language reasons as an example, there is help for you. A member of our community, Pablo, has set up a wonderful website with a collection of resources. One such resource are letter templates, which will help you compose your words: http://membres.lycos.fr/mpablo/ .

In addition, Pablo's website also has a PDF file of a petition. The file gets updated, so please get the new one. If you are doing the snail-mail option, it is a GREAT idea to print that petition out and mail it along with a letter (And seeds, hopefully… see #2).

You can also write/email/call/fax to this production company, which is somehow involved with The 4400 according to IMDB:

Renegade Production Company
Hollywood Production Center
121 W. Lexington Dr. Bldg. 413
Glendale CA 91203

Ph: 818-480-3112
Fax: 818-480-3192
showinfo@renegade83.com

4. Contact Other Media Sources. Anybody can do this, please read.

We need to let people know what we are doing. We need to put pressure on USA Network. Getting exposure in the media is the solution. We have achieved a lot of news articles, and that is a great accomplishment. We can not stop there. Visit Pablo's website for letter templates and artwork if you need it, http://membres.lycos.fr/mpablo/ .

[ 2/26/08 -- Please Note: I have updated this section reflecting two media sources that we are considering focusing on. There is a thread in progress which is voting on this, but there are two front runners which I will keep up. I have therefore removed the other contacts for now. Visit that thread and place your vote, feel free to comment as well: Vote Here ]

Ellen

PO Box 7788

And/Or you can E-Mail the Ellen Show at http://ellen.warnerbros.com/show/respond/?PlugID=10

Late Show with David Letterman

You can email him, see this page: http://www.cbs.com/latenight/lateshow/show_info/contact/

5. Bombard USA Network with Phone Calls. Who doesn't have a cell phone?

I've never called them, but they do have a phone number. CBS was bombarded with Phone Calls as well as peanuts, so this is perhaps a good option. Jam up all their phone lines.

212-413-5577

That is a number listed, but I am not sure where it will lead you to exactly. Somebody can feel free to shed more light on this. I suggest calling multiple times, but not exceeding your monthly minutes as your phone company will charge you extra money. If you do call multiple times, change your voice so they don't recognize that it is you. Find your inner Robin Williams.

6. Send Bonnie Hammer Emails. Anybody can help.

Bonnie Hammer is the president of the USA Network. We are targetting her with our campaign, as such it is a good idea to target her email inbox as well. She will no doubt get tired and call in tech support to install some spam filters, so you should get creative. Do not always mention "The 4400" -- suggestions on what you can say: "The Fourty-Four Hundred", "The Fouty-Four 100's", "The Greatest Show in the World", "That show you cancelled" -- etc.

Her e-mail is bonnie.hammer@nbcuni.com

Pablo says that you can bypass spamfilters if you put the message in a PDF file. You may want to consider that. Attach a read receipt to your emails, if they aren't being read after a week then start with the PDF files, but there's no guarantee they'll open them. Just an idea!

It would be nice if you could remain civil, but I understand if you can't hold back. However, we have a greater chance if the emails are actually read and respected. Calling her obscenities is considered rude in several cultures and will not result in the respect we desire.

7. Vote for The 4400.
Anybody can help.

Fan power might matter. There's a "Top 40" television show site that may help further our cause. You can vote one time per hour. Please go to http://www.richlabonte.net/tvvote/nominations.html
and enter in "The 4400" without quotations, click the button one time to vote, then come back an hour later and do it again. If we get anywhere important, it would be good to include this piece of "evidence" in your letters/emails to the Network.

Another member of this forum mentioned Tv.com. You can visit The 4400's TV.com site and vote for it there, this will attract new people to the show!

8. Buy the DVD's. Anybody can help.

DVD sales are a good indication of a strong fan base and generates revenue for the Network and (some) people involved in the show. Seasons 1-3 are currently on DVD and can be purchased in various places. I believe DVD Sales helped bring back "Family Guy" a while ago, so it couldn't hurt our cause either. Besides, who wouldn't want The 4400 on DVD? You can find them all over the internet, including such places as http://www.amazon.com -- you may wish to shop around for a better price.

9. Get Active & Generate Ideas. Anybody can help.

Activity on these forums is important, I believe the networks do monitor activity and a high activity amount on these forums could help sway their decision in our favor. In addition, if you have any ideas on how to help please post them here and I will quickly update the post. Show your support and get active in the cause.

10. Participate in the Youtube Videos. Have a camera?

A member of our community recently came up with a great idea! Rather than talk about it here, I will simply link you over to that thread where you can read more about it. We're expecting a date of February 20th for the videos to go online. The point of this is to get some exposure-- if somebody "high up" sees them, all the better, but ultimately even if we gather some more signatures for the petition and get a few more cases of seeds sent out, it's a success! Check it out! http://forums.usanetwork.com/index.php?showtopic=397149

[ Technically it is no longer February 20th, but you can do a video anyway! Check out the thread and the links people posted in there, share them with your friends-- spread the word! We need (sane) people to see our efforts and to help support us! ]

GREAT JOB Quofi, Looks awesome!!! I would only suggest one thing, when people want to sign the petition here on the network the easiest way to do it is copy the previous list click "Add Reply" and paste the list, finally add your name to the bottom! Way to consoledate!! biggrin.gif

I will add that as an alternative, but the list is getting quite big and I am a bit fearful of some copy/paste issues, so the "quote" function essentially does something similar. I'll update the post for both ways.

And thanks everybody!
SurvivorJoe
Great job Quofi, but don't forget to add into the email section that we've actually got Bonnie Hammer's direct email address as well - bonnie.hammer@nbcuni.com. I just sent approximately 300 emails or so to that address, so make sure you include it!

Wow I didn't know that, I should send at least that amount myself, just in case Bonnie didn't see them tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Quofi, excellent job, putting together all that information. Is it too much to ask to make this thread a sticky =\

I have updated that into its own number, it's that important! Thanks for this information.
SurvivorJoe
Thanks! And I almost forgot, there's the two fax numbers we got to work too - +1 (212) 664-3890 (NBC Universal/Sci Fi Channel) and +1 (201) 735-3630 (NBC Universal Cable). I have yet to find one that specifically goes to USA (and actually works), but since NBC Universal owns the whole thing I think we're still good with these numbers.
SWJaggy
Great list Quofi. This should help to navigate and this way everything isn't all scattered. Nice work.
Kryth
One suggestion from me, is that we should bump this thread several times a day in case a newcomer walks into this message board.
Quofi
Post updated with the new YouChoose site found in the Seeds section of the post, as well as the two working fax numbers found in the contacting the network section.

Thanks for contributing! I was going to look for those fax numbers, but you made it easier for me. tongue.gif

If anybody has anything else to add, I will put it here. If not, I think we should shamelessly bump this post up so it never leaves the front page, haha. Would be nice if we could get it "pinned"/"stickied".

I sent Admin a PM the other day but haven't heard any reply. He/she is the only one who can "Pin" threads sad.gif But I'll help to bump it too!

I'm currently writing an article for my college newspaper. I'm hoping to get some college kids involved. the more people the better. I think if someone wrote to rachael ray's talk show that she might respond.

Welcome. Good idea on the college newspaper, I was going to do the same. I go to Ohio State University, more or less the biggest... so maybe I can get some support here. Even if they can't spare money for sunflower seeds, as you can see there are plenty of free ways to contribute (Petition signatures, various emails etc).

And thank you for the suggestion. I'm a fan of Rachel Ray, I watch a lot of FoodTV but don't really catch her talkshow. I've added her to the list though, if anybody is interested:

How You Can Help

Well...not quite. Sorry to ruin the party with honesty here, but let us proceed directly to the point. None of the things you mention have been proven to make any difference, yet you fail to mention the one thing that does matter to the studios: Money.

This is a List of Things to Make you Feel Better. There is nothing wrong with that. Go ahead and have fun. But if you want to see more of The 4400, you have to start thinking about what you can do to get the DVDs from the 3000th sales rank on amazon.com to something a studio would find appealing.

If the studios do not see the potential income, no amount of peanuts, sunflower seeds, e-mails or signatures is going to make a difference. That is the real world.

If money was all that mattered, I'd be watching Firefly on Fox right now!

At any rate, I'm not sure if you meant to be helpful or not but I agree that DVD sales do help. The fourth season has not come out on DVD though, it will be out in May 2008 if you were not aware. If the show is not renewed by then it is grim for us so we can't wait for them to tally that up.

Previous seasons can help, if somebody hasn't already purchased them.

Edit: Post updated to reflect the new idea mentioned. Thanks for helping!

How, do you think, was Serenity possible? Two words: DVD sales.

The show will not be renewed. It is too late for that. The best we can hope for is a miniseries, a cable movie, or something like that. Maybe not for several years, until there are enough fans renting the DVDs.

The Firefly DVDs did not sell just to the hardcore fans. Those fans convinced their friends to buy them, and bought extra sets as gifts for other friends.

TV networks and movies studios are not in the charity business, trying to make fans happy. Seriously: They do not care that a very, very small number of people are very, very dedicated fans--unless those people bring more people in as customers. They care about numbers. They are businesspeople, and not even very smart at it.

Alex nice to see you back around the board, too bad you didn't bring Phanta back with you! I have to disagree with you! It is true that networks are more attracted to money but history, at least once, has shown that one Network (yes just one) actually IS in the charity business. When the fans of Jericho sent their 50,000 pounds of peanuts CBS donated those to you guessed it, CHARITY!!!! And they also listenend to the small group of fans! I fear that it is too late for a fifth season as well, and most of us agree on that, but what we are asking for is closure!

Sorry, but that was not charity.

We can also tell ourselves that a fan mail campaign "saved" Star Trek (or postponed cancellation for one year), but there were other factors, as many people have pointed out over the years.

Even when we can never find out all that goes on behind those studio/network doors, the one thing you can count on, is that charity is not one of the considerations.

It is easy for us to point at our own efforts and hopes and claim, "hey, we did this, we made it happen!" In reality, it is a little more complicated than that.

Of course, no one ever accomplished anything by saying "that is impossible," and sitting back. Then again, I never suggested that, and I am not suggesting that now.

Hi Amerish, thanks for this! What is that place?
Megan3375
Which is why we are fighting to get summation! I could care less what the network is going to do with those seeds, my hope is that we can stir enough of a commotion publicly that they would be afraid to ignore us due to a bad reputation on their part.

They are already a joke, and not the funny kind. What reputation would they have left to guard?
Megan3375
One that proves they REALLY could give a crap about their fans, sure WE already think that because they took away a great show, but the rest of the viewers, the ones that like Monk and Law and Order, those fans will have to stop and wonder are they going to take their shows prematurely too?

Monk is not going anywhere anytime soon, for one simple reason: *insane* ratings.

Nice find then. I'll put them up there. I checked out that link you had to their website, they look like a small company.

Edit: I put it up there, at the end of contacting the network. Didn't really fit in "Other media sources" and unless we have more, or until we get more affiliate places to the show to contact, I don't think we need another category.

'Alex's abilty&thought on 'Quofi's Thread.. I think 'Alex's 4400 ability is to make people come to a screech laugh.gif & say what??, and we need that at times, but i'll address 'Alex' is his post, except for this, yes Business=not caring, but there are Company's that do care, now and again loosen the copproate stranglehold that has gripped America, and realize who Really feeds the "hand" It's us "The People", CBS, had the wisdom to say "Yeah lets give a little" "It's about giving back! "Goes around Comes Around" and all that cool.gif and Now CBS is getting more Press see how that works tongue.gif just kidding, good to see you again, also 'alex'

'Quofi' WOW YOU DID IT laugh.gif , in what? 24 hrs? not much more than that, you created the place we've been talking about these last days.. YOU Created the Media/site for people to go to and you walked us/ well me through the steps so seemly effortlessly, yet I Know the work and hours it must have taken you. What passion! Thank you very much. Nice to see responses so quickly from the,? (Humm? Jericho are the Rangers, what would we be, every great movement needs a name at some time smile.gif ,just a thought) from the other members, 4400's. Warriors, Comrades in arms?

AS far as "Renegade Productions" After seeing the post from 'amerirish's these are not the same Renegade movies I was thinking about Sorry

TWO more things! Will people who visit the board have to join up to use the links??, Also I was thinking of calling Tom S. and see how things are going and see if he'd be willing too give us a weekly total, unless someone is already doing that? , or would like too. Oh and number 3 rolleyes.gif . Something that ALWAYS works, call their "advertisers" and tell them you won't be giving them your business anymore for supporting A Network that show such .......... repeats, bad programming..... you fill in the blanks, and the network has a history of using the consumers to reel us in buy their products, by creating thoughtful invoking shows just to be replaced with ......... It's like we are just a commodity, mad.gif and the store we but their crap from is "Not the only game in town" It's worked every time i been involved or heard about it. Takes Time and patience. losing a battle is NOT losing the war. A war for justice!!

For those who have, in your hearts, given up hope, keep it alive! Cause this campaign doesn't have to end here and now, yes time is an issue, BUT with good advertising from USA ie: marathons 1-4 we can still bring season 5 or a closure, maybe in the summer and I don't think that it will be, or has to be in the form of a DVD. "Talk about leaving $$$ on the dresser on the way out" biggrin.gif Hurry Marco's waiting laugh.gif

Hi heart, No you don't have to be a member to utilize the links on the forum!
I think Amerirish is keeping in touch with Tom S. about the numbers!
I think conatcting the advertisers is a great idea! Can you think of one in particular that advertises more on USA Network than the others? GREAT IDEA though heart!!!

Thanks sweets, or as 'PJ' says Megs, cute, for getting back to me so quickly, actually its a relief that Amerirish is doing it, I'm becoming over extended. I wonder where she'll post it, I'll just keep an eye out, seems like these posts are starting to take form and are becoming less guessing of where to look for Info. we need right now. Which is good, i think I've got it down to about 4-5 threads, which is making things easier to check out. Cool that they can just go directly to the links. As far as USA Advertisers, commercials mad.gif , I'll start writing them down, but would ask that others do the same, so we can start a "database of sorts"....I'm glad you like the idea.

Shameless bump and, hey Quofi, do we need a NEWS thread as well? What do u think? News meaning, articles in the press and online, a place for Amy Berg and higher ups could drop in and tell us whats goin on when they need to and stuff.Heck even Tom S could drop by and say "we got x thousand orders" if need be. Even maybe a suggestion thread. (altho that's not top priority)

I am not sure I follow, but if you think some guy, like me, can "derail" this crusade simply by posting an opinion (based on fact), how can you expect to get a TV network to renew a cancelled TV show? If these efforts are that fragile, you never had a chance. If not, then why worry about my opinion, or anyone else's? You cannot have it both ways.

Ok, I sent an email off to Renegade 83. Hopefully someone will reply, though I doubt it. Either way, the more mail we send the better for getting attention.

Hi!

I think that is a decent idea, actually. I'd rather somebody else started it, as it would be best if I focused my attention on keeping this thread up to date. Don't want to slack, organization is key!

But I really do like that idea, right now we were kind of posting everything in the seed shipdate thread.
Kryth
Yeah okay lemme see what I can do.

Okay after some thinking, I think putting up another important thread like this one will be difficult due to lack of moderation. It'll be hard to bump these 2 threads constantly, plus the seeds thread, and looking from the perspective of a newcomer, I'd prefer everything to be in one place.

Which brings me to this : We keep the first post of this thread as a guide for a newcomer to contribute to the campaign, but use the thread as a news kiosk. That means no discussion, but only news input should be posted here. Again, due to lack of moderation, we're gonna have to remove the discussion here manually (meaning everyone has to delete their own post) and open a General Discussion thread (which doesn't need constant bumping) to gather and discuss about the campaign.

Like you said Quofi, organization is the key.

So what does everyone think about this?

P.S: I can even handle the organization and collection of the news that are to be posted in the suggested thread personally.

Good Idea I will go and delete my posts right now....unfortunately there are some who have posted on this thread that may be less cooperative....
Quofi
I think the media is important, it is a good motivating factor, but I am not quite convinced trying to stick it in this thread is a good idea! They are two different types of things-- I was hoping this thread could be used as a guide for actions and ideas, but not being able to post in it would kind of prohibit that. Know what I mean?

I'm so tired right now! Less than 4 hours sleep because the apartment above me was playing really loud music all night. Then I had to get up really early and take an economics test... I was trying to finish reading a book for English class (which I need to leave for right now) and kept falling asleep! Haha.

I'll check back in a couple hours!
Kryth
^ Again, that brings me back to the moderation topic. Anyway let's just wait and see what ppl have to say, let's hear how they prefer it to be, then reconsider.

I just google (new) searched The 4400 and started compiling a list of links. Let me know when/where to post & I'll do it.
Quofi
Well, we can either have a new thread created relating to Media/Updates, or we can put that into here.

Seems to be the only two options.

When I messaged the admin a day or two ago I asked him if he would pin/sticky this post, and I put a tracker on the message. It has still not been read, so I am unsure if that will be a possibility.

The ideal situation in my opinion is two have two threads, one for actions and the other for media (and how are actions are progressing) which should both be stickied. I think that there is a highly probable chance that this could happen, but I don't know.. the admin may not log on very much anymore, is he on strike too? tongue.gif
