PWInsider.com is reporting that Jonathan Coachman has been tapped to replace John Bradshaw Layfield as the Friday Night SmackDown! color commentator.

The switch was revealed at Sunday night's WWE event, which features the taping of the first ECW and SmackDown! episodes of the new year.

JBL departed the announce booth in order to return to the ring as an active RAW brand Superstar. Michael Cole will continue his long-running role as SmackDown's play-by-play man.

The last time Jonathan Coachman was a color commentator, he was on Raw and personally I think he did a horrible job. Hopefully he's improved somewhat.

It said that some people backstage are said to be unsure of Vince McMahon’s decision about Jonathan Coachman joining Michael Cole as a Color Commentator for SD!

Well just so you all know, and this is true:

Michael Cole and Jonathan Coachman are Good Friends in real life and also, they both did commentary on Sunday Night HEaT.

and speaking of HEaT, Todd Grisham is now flying solo on HEaT just like Joey Styles flew solo in the old ECW days.

But I'll bet that they'll have Todd and Josh Mathews doing HEaT.

But I would rather see Marc Loyd and Al Snow do HEaT instead.
