Hi All
I'm new to this board. After watching the Westminster Breed videos I would like to find out where the lady handlers get their skirt suits from (the ones with pleated hems) as I think they look very smart.
Thanks in advance

I hate to tell you but, I know a ton of Lady handlers that shop exclusively at second hand shops

! Yep! the cloths are usually good quality and lets face it in their profession. who wants a expensive skirt to be goobed up by dogs LOL

! I know that my "Good Will" family center has the best designer cloths in perfect condition for pennies against the original prices. I do kive near (definatley not in) an afflluent area, so maybe I have excellent access to good donations

. Happy shopping!

I have to agree with you Mariepov, "Goodwill Industries" has a huge selection of designer clothes suitable for wearing at the very best dog shows. That said, most shows are put on by local dog clubs and the ladies usually do not dress up as fancy as they do for the more prestigious dog shows we see on television.

I like to sew so I make my own outfits. Most of the women shop at places like TJ Maxx or consignment sales--the clothes take quite a beating in the show ring, so most people don't want to spend a bunch of money on them

I shop at thrift shops and the Talbot Outlet. Something to remember "Pockets are a good thing". A place to put your bait.

Finding "show" clothes can be problematic. Jackets and/or skirts absolutely must have pockets, and these days, even "good" manufacturers save money by leaving them out of their garment designs. Clothing also needs to allow a lot of freedom of movement. You have to be able to bend over, stoop down, and jog alongside the dog without the clothes constricting or flapping open.
Topping it all off, the outfit needs to complement the dog too, not to mention finding shoes that are comfortable, non-slip and attractive.
As those previously have said, resale shops are a good source. I've found some great show outfits at Chadwick's, and they're very reasonably priced.
When I first started showing dogs, I had a lovely Anne Klein daffodil yellow wool spring suit (before I showed dogs, my hobby was shopping). I didn't realize that heavy spring showers were on the way, one of which opened up while I was in the ring. The mudstains never came out, and I've never bought expensive, designer clothes for showing dogs in since.

Since I do not sew and I am unable to make my own clothes, I actually by a lot of my suits from Kohls and Macys. My biggest problem are the shoes. It seems that ugly shoes seems to be a trend for the women that show. I have some beautiful suits and have shopped everywhere for shoes but to no avail. I show a slow moving breed but I still can't wear a great pair of high heels which as we all know would finish the suit.
