Okay this isn't really a topic, I am just a person asking for help who is out of options. I have just gotten interested in House in the past year. I love the show and record it all the time. Now just so noone thinks I am crazy for what I am about to type, I know that House is a TV show and that none of the cast are real doctors. But the shows are so real I thought that maybe the show had doctors that consulted with them. That being said my husband has been diagnosed with organic brain syndrome. He has seen countless doctors and specialists and although all of them agree on his condition none of them have recommended treatment and his condition keeps deteriorating. I know this is crazy but we really are out of options. I apologize to anyone whos time may be wasted reading this or anyone who just thinks I am insane. I just really don't know what else to do.

Sorry to hear about your husband's illness. The term organic brain syndrome is a general term that includes any disorder that causes mental deteriotion. I'm guessing that they have not come up with a cause at this point, that is why there is no treatment. Some disorders that cause mental deteriotion have treatments but many do not. The cause could be genetic, metabolic, or infection. If they have not done genetic testing that might be your next step, just so you know what your dealing with. Though some brain disorders cannot be truly diagnosed without a brain biospy. I hope at this point they have done a CT scan, MRI, and PET scan, EEG and a metabolic workup. If the doctors couldn't figure it out I'm not going to be much help. Just keep taking him to doctors until someone can narrow it down. Get on line and start doing some research on diseases that cause mental deteriotion. Try to see which ones match his symptoms the best.

good luck.

Thank you kathypg. They do know what caused it or they think they know. They all believe it was due to spray paint and tin compounds. He has had everything that you mentioned done. Not otmention more bloodwork than I can count. I have been all over the internet. I have taken hime to doctors and specialists in 4 different states and they all have given us a diagnosis but no treatment. I have mentioned different testing that I have found on the internet to several of the doctors. I thought maybe if they tested his skin hair or nails that they could find something but they all seem to think it is unneccessary. His condition just keeps getting worse. He has neurpathy in all of his extremities, severe pain throughout his whole body, and his memory gets worse everyday. They have tried him on several broad spectrum prescriptions but they make his symptoms worse instead of better. I appreciate your time and your reply. Thank you so much just for taking the time to acknowlrdge me.

That sounds pretty bad. There are medications for the neurpathy. Also the nerves in the extremities can repair themselves over time, but much of the damage to the brain and any cranial nerves might be repairable. If he is no longer having exposure to the paint fumes and the metals the deteriotion should have slowed down. I would eliminate his exposure to as many chemicals as possible. That means no fast foods, no processed foods, everything organic. I would have special metabolic test done. A special diet might help, it does in some cases of exposure to metals.

I do wish you luck.

You want a specialist that can determine what things he needs to keep out of his diet. I believe they test for proteins that the body is making. I think the idea of the diet is to give the body an easier time removing toxins that are there and at the same time not adding anything that is hard for the body to get rid of. I'll talk to my friend Judy, she took her son to a specialist in Pittsburgh that helped her. Her son had a severe reaction to his MMR vaccine, it was one of the ones with mercury. She put her son on a special diet of organic foods and no milk or wheat products. It took several years but he got most of his mental abilities back. For a while he could not talk or walk. I know Judy did a great deal of research when her son got sick. I'll post after I talk to her, it might be a few days before I see her.

Thank you so much. You would not believe how much you are helping us. I'll be waiting for your reply.
My husband is going to see a 3rd neurologist next week. Do you think he would be familiar with this testing?
