Once the show was set to get started, Angela and M Fletcher Brown came out to ‘introduce’ the show... and the ‘opening act’, James LeBlanc. James is a great great songwriter, with some of his songs being cut by Travis Tritt and Kenny Chesney, etc... He did a set that lasted about a half-hour, then Zac came on and lit up the stage!! He did a few cover songs and a few originals...
He started with a cover, “All Right Now”, followed by the lively crowd favorite, “Memphis Women and Chicken”. Once Zac took the stage, the kids who had been dancing on the side of the stage started working their way to the center, in front of the stage, instead. They seemed to have a BLAST dancing (and screaming) along to “Memphis Women and Chicken”. He followed that up with another cover, “Easy Like Sunday Morning” which was simply amazing. I honestly do think he can sing anything... and sing it well!! His next song was another cover, but one that would be easily recognized by any of his Nashville Star fans, since it was one of the songs he performed on the show, “Stranger In My House”. “Emily” was next, which slowed things down just a bit, before he swung right into a rousing rendition of Keith Urban’s “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me”. Again, Zac was astounding with covering a song made popular by someone else but turning it into his own... adding his own flair to it. He did a few of his own songs next, starting with the energetic “Anything But Love”, followed by a very sensual “Never Been Loved”. “Get Your Love On” stirred things back up... but not to be outdone by “If It Wasn’t For The Whiskey”. Zac’s mom and dad were in the audience at the show, and he told us that things have gotten much better since the show between him and his dad, and also between his mom and his dad, too. He ended his set with a cover of a cover of a cover... hehehe... He did his own spin on “Life Is A Highway”, and I’ve never heard a better version!
Then it was Angela’s turn... Zac came back on stage with her to provide some guitar and background vocals as well. Angela’s first song was “When Will I Be Loved” which she performed during the contest, followed by “Emotionless”, which is one of her originals that made it onto her promotional album, “The Winner Is...” She did a ‘new’ song next... new to her, at least. It was a song written by James LeBlanc, that also appears on his current CD. The song was “No Next Time”, to which she continued with “Love Me Wild”. That song also is one of her originals that appears on her promotional album. A few new songs followed, starting with “When You Come Around” and “So Yesterday”... “Used”, written by Lee Turner of the Nashville Star band was next, just before “These Walls”. One of my favorite songs from her promotional album was next, “You Got Me”. She did an amazingly powerful acoustic version of that song with just her vocals and James’ guitar licks... She next performed another original called “When The Whiskey Hits Me”, followed by her hugely successful original from Nashville Star’s “Originals Night”, “Total Loss”. The concluding song was a duet between her and her younger brother that has concluded most shows they’ve done together, the Black Crowes cover, “Hard To Handle”.
All the while, the kids that were front and center of the stage were dancing up a storm and having a blast!! You could see their energy only fueled Zac and Angela further, and they seemed to really enjoy this show a lot!! They did meet and greets immediately following and the fans just never seemed to end. It was such a great show, as are all Zac and Angela shows. I can’t wait for my next one!
Check out some of the best pictures I got of Zac (my battery died just about the time Angela took the stage...
