(1) I'm up to Season Three, catching up (only started watching this season) and I have still an ongoing question. Why, oh, why, does Monk need to touch the little round balls on the end of car antennas? Is it assumed that it's just an OCD thing, or is it ever explained? Did I miss the explanation in an earlier episode?

P.S. If it IS explained later in the series I want to know, but please don't tell me the explanation. I'll get there.

(2) Have any of you noticed the little anomaly in the theme song music? There's a slight scraping sound about halfway through the Jungle song. It bugged me until I realized it must be the guitarist's fingers sliding up the strings going to the next chord. You can really hear it in the exit music when the "vocals layer" is missing from the music.

(1) It's just an OCD thing - he becomes obsessed with one thing and has to touch it, sometimes repeatedly.
(2) I haven't noticed this - I'll have to listen closer next time I watch an episode.

I haven't noticed either.

1) Yeah it is an OCD thing. smile.gif

2) I haven't noticed it either, but I think that's all it is is the fingers. Becasue I play guitar and I notice that happens sometimes.

Thanks for the replies! I'm totally ok with #1 being an unexplained OCD thing. I just didn't want to miss anything, you know?

As for the guitar finger-squeak, I thought I was nuts when I first noticed it, but once I figured out what it was, I realized at the same time that watching Monk was making me more aware of my own little quirks, like noticing stuff like that. I'm not where Monk is, but I do have my quirks. Watching this show has made me more aware of them and also, in an odd way, has made me more comfortable with them. For that, on this Thanksgiving, I am grateful. smile.gif

One of my favorite scenes was in the episode where the Captain's girlfriend committed a murder, and Monk has to prove the killer rode a motorcycle within a certain time. So his assistant is driving the motorcycle while Monk is nervously hanging on behind her as they weave through heavy traffic piled up in a stand-still, and monk is explaining things to Valerie while he has to reach out and boing every ball on the antennaes they drive past. I laughed so hard. It's just funny.

I love that scene - it is one of my favorite episodes.

The whole point of an obsessive-compulsive disorder is, those are *irrational* impulses, so there can be no explanation. If there were an explanation, it would not be obsessive or compulsive.

I caught this 'little thing' in the Panic Room episode. When Darwin is on Monk's counter, he takes out a glass and throws it then he takes out the blue bowl and drops its. Pan to Monk's reaction then back to Darwin and just like magic the blue bowl is back in the cupboard. blink.gif

Kees - saw a funny thing in Mr Monk stays in Bed..When Monk goes to save Nat from the bad guy:
1. He rides in a cab - in his pj's
2. He rides in the back seat?

I'm sure that other things are out there as mistakes that they didn't catch...that is what is so great about the show...we are taught that observation is the best tool!

I've noticed some things

In "Mr.Monk and Canidate" when Monk lets go of the pushboard and all thumbtacks go flying all over the table, the back of the board is different in the next shot. Watch it you'll see...

In "Mr.Monk and the Cobra" when they open the coffin the candle Monk is holding is melted all over his hand, in the next scene his hand is clean of wax.

He's sometimes able to overcome his phobias in extreme situations like this one was. Like later when he stepped in that puddle of goo, he was actually able to stop himself from screaming! laugh.gif

I thought I was the only one that noticed that squeak in the theme song! laugh.gif I always flinch a little when I hear it though. As for inconsistencies I never notice them. Well I guess I better go watch some more episodes of Monk and look for them. smile.gif
