We saw Eames apartment in Blind Spot, but what does Bobby's place look like? Did he go back to live at his mother's house? What would we find there?
Bubba_Bridges
Hi Bubba here, I think it would be neat and clean. Probably has a lot of books.
cluck73
books, books, and more books. We saw his kitchen and know it badly needs a facelift. I think the rest of his apt is outdated, but neat and clean and organized!
I used to wonder if he would have a big screen tv, etc, but I doubt it. He doesn't seem to be the type to watch that much tv. Maybe catches the 11 o'clock news or a game here and there.

I'm guessing that since this is in the games section, we as viewers get to play interior decorater.

I think Bobby lives in a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment. His kitchen (in this fantasy, the travesty of a kitchen we saw in Amends doesn't exist) is large and tidy. There is a island with stools where Bobby eats his breakfast. He has lots of kitchen toys and knows how to use them to cook me delicious dinners every night. The living room is spacious and warm. The walls are painted cream with a midnight blue trim. He has a big, soft recliner and an overstuffed couch with an afghan knitted by his mom drapped over the back. He has a wide-screen wall-mounted tv and an entertainment center with DVD player, hi-tech stereo, and surround sound speakers that blend perfectly into the background. All of his floors are hardwood with area rugs, except for the carpeted bedroom. His bathroom has two sinks and the same color scheme as the living room. In his bedroom, he has a king size bed with a hunter green bedspread and either white or black sheets. His bed is always made, because my Bobby can't stand messiness. Pictures in matching silver or black frames cover the walls throughout the house, but never enough to make it look tacky. His spare room has a futon for guests, a treadmill (for his Smithsonian magazine), and a file cabinet for his important papers.
JanxAngel
His place has a small but workable kitchen with the previously seen Harvest Gold appliances. He knows how to use them, and doesn't see any reason to replace what works. Though he does in fact own a microwave. There's a small nook off to one side for eating. It has a wrought iron table and matching chairs with a light blue tablecloth. The floor is white linoleum with gold accents.

His furniture is somewhat mismatched, but in a way that's eclectic, not tacky. It's all older stuff, a bit worn so it has character, all warm colors and soft. There's a few throw pillows and a snuggly afghan or quilt. Whatever isn't fabric is wood. Bookshelves take up most of the wall space, but there's an empty corner with his favorite chair and table with lamp next to it. Squeezed inbetween 2 shelves on the side opposite the loveseat (no room for a full sofa) is a TV stand. It has a smallish, but nice, modern TV on top, and underneath in the cabinet is the DVD player, VHS player, and stereo (speakers in the shelves on either side) with a record player. The rest of the space is storage for DVDs, videos, CDs, & records. What wall space isn't taken up with shelves is decorated by various pieces of classic artwork in vintage frames. The floor is hardwood with a few creative throw rugs.

The bathroom is done all over in vintage white & ice blue tile work. The fixtures are totally original, except the shower head, which had to be replaced due to his height. He's got a claw foot tub, and a palm tree shower curtain (it was a gift). There's a small linen cabinet/closet just inside the door.

He's got a big, squishy, double on a tall iron frame. The sheets are always clean, even if the bed isn't always completely made. Every set of sheets he owns has a different design on them. He doesn't have a bedspread, just blankets. His pillows are overstuffed with feathers. He treadmill is folded up in the corner, there's a nightstand on one side of the bed, and a light fixture in the wall over top of the headboard. He's got soft grey carpet in there.

He generally keeps the place tidy, but he's not OCD about it, and can let a bit of clutter come in when he's really busy working on stuff. His place still uses radiators for heat in the winter too. He has to be careful as the weather gets colder not to let any of the stacks of books that won't fit on the shelves get too close to them. He's got a collection of odd knick-knacks from all over creation that have drifted into his possession over the years sitting on the tops of the bookshelves and in little spaces here and there.

Overall you get organized clutter and warm safety combined with a sense that the person who lives there is very intelligent but aware of their own surroundings.

Like some of us talked about the gold appliances, do you think it's his Mother's apartment, or is that Bobby's? I could see him having expensive wood furniture like teek, with book shelves full of reading material? Think he has rugs, hardwood or carpet? K huh.gif

Do you think he has food in his fridge, or does he spend his paycheck eating at Sal's?

He's got food. He was hanging out at Sal's to flirt with the waitress. That was too much, "I just like the way you write it."

I answered this in a thread on the NBC board a while back. I still think we saw Robert on the floor of his mom's apartment NOT his.

He's fastidious. My guess is he has a cleaning lady. I also guess that since Frances died, Robert is depressed and not caring too much about his appearance or the condition of his apartment. His plants are dead, he has pizza boxes piled up on the kitchen counter. There's a pile of Sunday NY Times papers next to the leather chair and matching ottoman.

Hardwood floors, masculine/contemporary furniture, muted tones and cozy. He doesn't really decorate, but buys the entire page right out of the catalogue and considers the room done. Lots of books and music. Robert likes smooth jazz, classic rock, classical, and big band. He's got eclectic and expensive taste. A nice wine collection. There's a 50" plasma TV hanging on the wall for black and white movies and sports only.

The bedroom contains a Cal King bed (maybe a waterbed) with a down comfortor and oversized pillows. The nightstand has a Stiffel lamp, an alarm clock, a wireless phone, and a remote. There's a butler for his suit jacket. The armoire is where his pocket change, tie clips, hanky, and the other contents of his pockets lands. His gun and badge are in the drawer by his bed.

The master bath is plain- 1 towel. Razor, shaving cream, mouthwash and toothpaste/brush all in the medicine cabinet. Hamper in the corner of his closet. He's very neat ordinarily, but he's not caring so much since Frances died. He's feeling lonelier, he's not sleeping, and he's depressed.

What his heart needs, is a woman's touch.....same for his apartment.

Are you suggesting he lived another apartment and kept his mom's apartment while she was in Carmel Ridge? I don't think he would have paid rent for two places for all those years, he knew she was never getting out. I could see that before he had her committed, that he had to live with her, then maybe with work it got too hard, and had to have her placed. Then maybe kept the same place, maybe never had time to find another.I am sure if he had maintained two apartments, Frank would have been housed up in one rent free. Maybe thats the same apartment they had as kids. Maybe now that she is gone, he will get another place of his own, now that he will have time to date.

Well there's no real backstory that I know of, but I always thought that was Frances's place- - funded with checks from social security disability, retirement checks/pension, and monies from Medicaid. Maybe it was even the Goren family home. Robert didn't have to keep it for her at all. She wasn't insitutionalized permanently until her last year or so, or until her cancer got too bad, so no immediate need to pack it all up if it was the family home. I just don't believe it's where Robert currently resided. JMO

Well to quality for Medicaid, she had to spend down her assets,( he made that comment in DAW) and any money she gets all goes to carmel ridge, at least thats how it works with medicare when family is in the nursing home, they aren't allowed to have assets, I think for my Grandmother she couldnt have more than $500 in the bank at a time to pay for her personal hygene and medical expenses. So unless the home was in Bobby's name, she wouldn't have a home. Before she went into the home she sold her car to my son for $1 cause if she just gave it to him, he would have had to claim it as a gift and pay taxes, and if she asked any more for it the money would have just gone to the home.

I am not a lawyer and didn't handle her fianances personally so not sure of all amounts. smile.gif But it was something like that.

I think you have to have amental disorder or a severe disability. I worked in nursing, so all that stuff with insurance is quite complicated. K

She qualified for medicaid after she got rid of her assets. My father's friend had to do it to afford a nursing home for his wife.

I am just saying I don't think if it was, he would have left it empty and lived somewhere else. I think he would have stayed there and saved his money. Maybe using the extra money to pay for the nice place like Carmel Ridge. It has been commented on other boards, Medicare wouldn't have payed for such a nice place and for her to have a private room. So if it is mom's old place, he probably still used it, and used the money he saved to help mom have a better place maybe compensating the cost himself.
Gorens0Girl
Very interesting to read all of our debate over this being Bobby's or Mama Goren's place, but I would have to come down on it being Bobby's place...it did not match my mental image of his place either.

But, the one thing that has always bugged me about this visual of the apartment is the PHONE!
Every time I see that scene, I want to slap the prop guys for sticking that phone on the counter. It is an office phone, not a kitchen phone.

I'm sure Bobby helped her alot with where she was, but medicare only pays for medical bills, not bills you've accumalative, you contact her creditors, and tell them she is deceased, and they write it off because there is noone left responsible, unless, you co-sign on something for her. K

It's probably like that guys apartment in the "Smile" episode, except with a TV. (I bet Bobby watches Discovery and the History Channel if he's not reading.) I don't think it would be as spacious (although a 6'4" man needs his room!) but I'm sure it would have lots of bookshelves. How he would organize his books is a different story, Dewey Decimal or Random Goren Order? In one episode (can't remember which one) he said he had a treadmill. Obviously doesn't look like he's been using it lately so don't know if it's just piled with stuff or broken and sitting in corner of his room. Maybe he gave it away to make room for more bookshelves! This is definitely a 1 room apartment, most likely furnished with well worn but tasteful hand-me-down furniture, probably from his mom. His mantle, if he has a fireplace, has that picutre of his mom in her Jackie O suit front and center. Maybe a few others of family but I don't envision many photos at all. Not much he can do about the '70's kitchen. I bet he can cook a good roast in his kitchen but prefers Sal's for more flamboyant cuisine like Veal Parmagiana (and for the pretty waitress). His fridge probably looks like mine right now though...neglected, empty. And I bet he has the phone number and menu for his favorite chinese delivery on the outside afixed with some random magnet he found at his mom's doctor's office, probably for some medication (I get these all the time when Reps come to tout their new fancy heart rhythm fixers, cholesterol drugs, and antipsychotics. Everyone who sees my fridge door must think I have a pharmacy at home.) His wall space is harder for me to figure. I don't think he would have anything personal but maybe something, some scene, poster, or maybe even a photograph taken by him of some place in Korea or Germany from when he was there. I suppose he could have a few plants, maybe some spider plants or the odd geranium but I don't think they are very healthy at the moment (a bit reflective of his current self). His bedroom has got to have a king size bed. A man of his size has to have room to stretch out! But, metaphorically speaking, maybe he has a smaller bed to represent his loneliness. No, I don't think he has had a date in a long time. (Insert phone number here__________) His closet would seem to me to be very organized. His suits always look nicely pressed so I bet he keeps them seperate from his casual clothes, and hangs them each equidistant on the rack, just like in the military. All in all, I think he keeps it tidy but a newspaper here or there wouldn't seem out of place. If he has any tchotchkes around I think they carry meaning that only he knows so most things would seem impersonal to most visitors.
gorengurl22
i think goren's place is completely spotless and orderly, but i think he has one room thats full of books and papers. with everything just scattered all over the room and this would be the place where when he's home he spends most of his time (if not all of it).

Bobby no longer rents an apartment. Two, three years ago he bought a house. It's an older home in need of some updating, especially the kitchen. He's updated the bath because it was second only to the kitchen. Since the kitchen is the area he spends the least amount of time in, he's in no real hurry to fix it. The rest of the house is in pretty good shape with its hardwood floors and leaded glass windows. Opposite the large living room window is floor to ceiling bookshelves with reading material ranging from John Updike to Freud. A dark red leather sofa and old wooden trunk anchor the center of the room. Tables stacked high with books and momentos from his years abroad round out the look.

Okay...I definately think the bed must be a California King, since they are LONGER!!! And I have to picture him sitting stretched out in a soft, brown leather chair with a nice reading lamp behind it to one side, with his bookshelves of his very favorite books within arms length... The bath - a nice shower with one of those rainfall shower heads, maybe a garden tub long enough for him to soak away the long day, two sinks (one for guests like us, lol), soft, over sized towels...An eat-in kitchen with lots of gadgets that he knows well how to use, lots of spices he can try out new recipes with, maybe leftovers in the fridge from his favorite italian places... The spare bedroom with his files he had to drag home from work, different sorces of info like science magazines and books on drugs, causes of death and such, his treadmill (complete with Smithsonian and a place for a water bottle), maybe one of those Bose radios or a nice set of noise-reducing headphones and a nice painting of some "sweaty half-naked people" (to think about while he is walking)...I think he keeps his home neat and orderly, but has a bit of clutter which make it feel homey, maybe a few photo albums and framed photos since he likes them so well and could use a memory of happier times, maybe a lap-top he can carry from room to room as needed, hardwood or tile floors (except the bedroom). I cannot see him sitting still long enough to watch much television so I can see a moderate sized set, maybe one of those hang on the wall kinds...maybe some candles to make it smell cozy and fresh...a bachelor pad--but one any one of us would LOVE to visit! cool.gif

I got the feeling that this was in mom's place as well...it does not FEEL like him at all...and the way OUR system works, she could have had her place (maybe the rent was prepaid, since they can do leases like that) and still been at the hospital. My gram had her own place and when she was in the hospital family stayed there. He just looks like he is sitting there, with memories of her going through his head, wondering what he should do with her things... Although I have heard the New York apartments are not usually large...I picture Bobby in more of a townhouse type - like Eames' home looked. Something more permanent that he could make his own...
He seems to organized too have a messed up house of his own, too proud of who he is - to make his home a dump.

Yes, but of the tasteful, erotica type, not the "Oh Yes! Sex from every angle." kind. Personally I just don't see him even being able to be turned on by that kind of common material.

Sublety, mystery, refinement, and softness are what he enjoys. He has such high respect for women that the normal kind of porn that mostly degrades them would be kind of a turn-off.

Ok I'm done.

Such memories! My gold wall phone was touch tone! How hot was I then, wrapping around myself, until my mother had a fit! laugh.gif
